I used to work as a musician/entertainer and I also found that my voice sounded so different coming out of speakers. It is because we hear our own voices coming from within and speakers/recorders give them as they are coming from outside our own years. If you place a microphone on just under the left side of your jaw-line on the throat, then it will sound more similar to what you hear yourself, which is slightly muffled.
It was strange when I heard my voice coming through external speakers for the first time, but I got acclimatized to it. After all, I had spent all my life up to that point practicing formulating the sound of my voice from the hearing point of what I could hear, not what others could hear. If you keep using microphones, you will find that your voice will sound better. It won't sound different of course, but you will modify very slightly until you are just as happy speaking through a microphone or not through a microphone. _Derek

Hi Kostas... There is no set time or method. The more you use the mike, the more you will get used to the sound of your own voice coming through the speakers. I even used to practice speaking with a mike at home as to how I would address an audience and this way I got used to the sound of my voice coming from the speakers. Good luck with this, but it's just a case of practice makes perfect. _Derek

This is quite normal for most people. We are used to hearing our voice from inside our own head so when we hear it on film, it does sound a lot different and is similar to how others hear it.
This is a dilemma that I am facing at the moment as I get more into filming myself for my Youtube channel. I always cringe when I hear my own voice which is why I am currently making my motorbike videos like this one I just uploaded: http://youtu.be/MFBEgHoE2l8 No voice, just music.
In the future I plan to get more into "motovlogging" which is talking while you are riding and filming like in this one: http://youtu.be/M2qRPQIkvmw
I will just have to get used to my voice which I know is quite monotone and flat at times. I will also need to put more emotion into my voice in order to get lots of subscribers on my channel.

I have seen some of your videos. I would say that you sound OK, you wouldn't :)
I wouldn't get into motovlogging as you call it, because I want 100% of my attention on the road.
Why do you want subscribers?

Oh yes when I hear my own voice after it's been recorded in some way it sounds funny to me. I sound like a little kid.

I've always wonder if that is how people hear me that I sound like a little kid. Maybe that is why little kids like me because I have a soft like voice that is easy to like.

I noticed the same and it's very strange for me too. I wanted to be a singer when I was a child, but hearing my voice coming from the tape absolutely discouraged me. We were playing with other kids recording our voices, and I thought it wasn't me... the funny thing is that when I listen to my recorded voice, it still sounds the same it sounded when I was a kid. Like a chipmunk's voice from a cartoon

Hi... It is very natural... For the simple reason that you never know your own voice... I still don't know my own voice... Hardly anyone does, I believe! So it is natural to feel amazed to hear one's own voice on a recording device... This explanation might sound over something, but it is most logical.. Try to remember your own voice... I tried many times, I still can't...

Everybody tells me I have a lovely speaking voice, but if I listen to a recording of it, it sounds awful to me and I hate it.

It's natural for your voice to sound different to you when you hear it on a recording. The difference is that when you say it your ears blend the sound of your voice-going out & -reflecting back; when you hear it recorded you only hear half of that.
I remember back when I was recording my voice reading, and I was surprised I sounded like such a nerd when I heard the playback---in my own head, I sound something like a prosperous Southern gentleman

I feel that kind of really weird to hear my voice through the recording tools. My friend says that it's not like my voice at all but some others are saying that the voice is good. So i'm using it for some companies as recording calls.lol,i like it coz it's really interesting to hear mine.

KOSTAS, I am totally with you...I heard my voice years ago
and wanted to know, "who the hell is that"?? I was really
sure that was not me..Others thought it was funny but I did
not find any humor in it because i was really serious...
even when I do my voice mail, it does not sound like me...

I hate my voice too. The bottom line is that I sound like a Londoner and it is flat and not at all pretty to listen to. It doesn't sound a bit like I sound to myself, I think the recordings must bring out any hint of an accent we might have. I grew up in London but I have not lived there since I was a teenager, but that accent still lingers I am afraid.

Is it so easy for your accent to change? And change into what? A similar accent?

Yes, I had also experieced that kind of scenario. I was overwhemled to the fact that I did not believe it was my voice. It sounds so seductive..lol..I used to hear my voice through our Quality Assurance Personnel in my work because I was once a collection analyst and my job was to interact with different kinds of customers via phone. We have been graded through that interactions.

In the past my brother and I often recorded our own cassette tapes. On the tapes we talked, sang etc and I still remember the first time that I heard about my voice on tape. I thought: "Do I really sound like that?" I must say that I like my voice better when I talk. I once read the explanation behind this, and it has to do with the way that we are created. I don't remember the details of the explanation, but no one hears their voice the correct way when they speak. It is a little strange to think about that. The voice that we think is real, isn't real and everyone else gets a different impression of our voice when we speak.

I think because we hear it in this big "speaker", our head.
I prefer my voice when I was a kid, I sounded a lot better.

It happens the same to me. And I don´t like my voice in a recording. It´s not only strange, but not nice. Should we start practicing sign language instead?

Yes I totally agree with you. I think my voice sounds so strange when I hear it back. I didn't think I sounded that way. Lol. I don't like it at all. I wish my voice sounded the way it does in my head... I think most people feel that way! Lol.

Yes I have heard my own voice and I don't like it at all. I think this is because I can hear my London accent which is not noticable to me usually. I've heard myself sing and that is much nicer!!
