We often feel embarrassed and angry, when others laugh, because doing something stupid. I think this is the wrong response. Because, people are able to laugh at their own stupidity means having a sense of humor, and make life more enjoy.

Laughing at others is easy.We are human beings. We have our own limitations. We are prone to make mistakes and act foolishly. When we make mistakes and others laugh at us,we get irritated. But when others make mistakes,we don't care how they would feel if we laugh at them, and we ridicule them.We never care how they react. We just take pleasure in laughing at them.It requires a lot of courage to laugh at our mistakes and follies. And if we have this courage, then really we are great. It's a rare quality that only a few of us have.

Recently our politicians grew furious over a cartoon. The cartoonist was arrested, but later released, because the public did not like the way the government reacted.

It is best to enjoy life, you are correct. If we can laugh at ourself we make others feel easy around us and they are not afraid they might offend. Not all mistakes are stupidity, but they still can be very funny

I think that being able to laugh at ourselves sometimes is a great thing. We are not perfect and if we take everything so seriously, how will we feel all the time. The thing is that even those that laugh at us to hurt us, when they see us laugh too, it changes the whole scheme of things. It also gains respect to show people that you are just you.

Then people laugh, not to speak, to see you laugh.

I believe on that statement, I used to laugh out of silly things I've done. We need to take it lightly.

Right. It makes your life more lightly. The more frequent, the more lightly.

Hi, haven't seen you for a long time here. I agree with you. When I was a child , I could never bear the others laugh at me when I did something stupid, I hoped I would never meet the people who laughed at me , it's embarrassed, but at last I knew that it's impossible. I learned to laugh at my own stupidity when I grew up, or I should say after I have worked many year. I think that means I am maturer now.

Hi Caopaopao, Sorry, I'm bored 1-2 months, besides there are busy offline. Nice to see you again. May you stay healthy, successful and balanced. By the way, I agree with you, that this is a maturing process themselves. Another one is ..... intelligence makes people able to laugh at yourself stupidity. I've read (forget where), that the highest humor is able to laugh at yourself stupidity. Hence, a comedian definitely smart.

Hi hsofyan! I think that you are so right! We need to be able to laugh at ourselves. Having a sense of humor is a great quality to have and sadly there are way too many people who don't have one. Too many people are too wrapped up in themselves or take things too seriously to enjoy life, as you said. I think that having a good sense of humor is a really important quality. I like to laugh and be "silly" sometimes and I try to surround myself with some friends who are similar!

Actually when people laugh at their own stupidity it is often because they have no will to learn from it. They are trying to laugh it off in order to dispose of it. Surely a wrong thing to do! Personally I always seek to learn from any mistake that I make - to do this it is necessary to develop an understanding of what is going wrong and why. It is better to be serious and recover from the error quickly, then analyse and learn before moving on. Understanding may not come instantly, but it will eventually come. At that point you will be wiser for having made the mistake. On the same subject I have no patience for those that boldly say they NEVER make mistakes. It is a simple fact that they are lying. Can you be big enough to admit your own mistakes? That is an interesting question. I would love to say "yes, I have done that every time" but I know there have been times I have just walked away and hoped that no-one noticed This is a tough call to make.
