I think a laptop is better than an ipad

For serious writing work, a laptop does much better than an ipad. The ipad is only suitable for reading our work or when we present the work to others. At home, I use my laptop to write reports or articles. When I go out I copy the work to my smart phone or ipad so that on the way I can review the work, and if there are a few mistakes, I think I can edit them in my ipad.
I tried to write a lot of articles using my ipad, it took so long to complete. Its virtual keyboard button, for me, is too close. Making typos is sometimes unavoidable. What about you mylotters, what's your take on this?

I'm with you on this. I use my laptop for real work stuff and writing and spreadsheets; I only use my iPad when I'm playing games, reading ebooks, browsing or surfing or just reading emails. Because of its touch screen capability, navigation is very easy in an iPad but I find it hard to use when I have to write long letters or articles.

One thing is sure, we cant certainly use an ipad for mylotting. it would be hardly to type in even a single response. we would get bored of the whole activity.

When we get used to writing on it, typing mistakes can decrease. We say it's difficult because we are accustomed to pc keyboards. When typing with virual keyboard of an ipad, start it slowly.

This means that we have to own two--a laptop and an ipad. In the office, I use my laptop; and on the bus, my ipad makes the journey home more comfortable.

A laptop definitely is surely far better than a laptop, from the OS to hardware and to the amount of work it can handle as compared to an i-pad. On the other hand, the convenience of an I-pad remarkably is more than the laptop with ease of use and longer usage.

I pad would be mostly preferred by businessman. Their needs basically include internet browsing and presentation management. these things can be easily managed in Ipad. laptops would be too hefty to carry compared to ipads

An ipad would be more suitable when we are on the go. I often accompany my wife to do the shopping. So, waiting for her to finish shopping seems more entertaining when I am accompanied by my ipad. With it, I can still mylot.

I concur with your point that both have different features. Both are meant for different purposes. the user should opt for the one based on his work and preferences.

That's true. I think I will need to buy another laptop. Previously I planned to have another ipad but on second thought, it would be more profitable to have a bigger screen laptop.

YANZALONG;
Comparing laptop and ipad -- you are right laptop is better. when we compare laptop and PC (when we are in our own place) PC is more convenient.
It depends on how much work we want to do using lapotp of ipad. may be when we use ipad only for a few days we will be comfortable with that and our speed of work will increase steadily. good day.

I think this represent different generations. There used to be a time when desktops were rare. then desktops became common. Laptops came barging in. And now it seems tablets are taking the place.

what is the price of laptop in your country? Is it more than in India or less than in India? mostly it will be less because it is manufactured in your country only. which laptop are you using or intend buying?

Well it is true. I have tried trying to encode my work in the pad and it took so long that I didn't continue it. The only perk of the ipad is that it's light and easy to bring.

Checking emails is quicker in an ipad, don't you think? you can write a couple of sentences or more in an ipad while you lie down in your bed. It's surely a lot of fun to be with.

You are definitely on the right track my friend. A tablet of any kind will never be as good as a laptop, and certainly not a desktop. First of all most tablet versions of software are the "lite" versions, because there is no way a tablet is going to run a full version of image editing software. Secondly, typing on a touchscreen is an exercise in futility; you end up poking at the characters, all the while getting fingerprints on the screen. (You can add a keyboard, but why not just buy a laptop in the first place?) Then there is the resolution issue; all of my laptops are a minimum 1920x1080 resolution, and my main desktop runs 2x 23" monitors at 1920x1080 each. The iPad with Retina display is 2048x1536, but can you imagine looking at that on 9.7"! Then there is the fact that the processing power is just not on par with a laptop, much less a desktop!

You are right, tablets are not for processing things like photos or writing work.Tablets are lite machines to view our work in. I love reading my work in an ipad. For example, I read my presentation in an ipad for tomorrow. Or looking at my articles. What is so nice with a tablet is that it reaches you first thing in the morning when you want to check your emails or others.

I think my tablet is very convenient for checking email and even writing short replies. Also I use it quite a bit to show folks images on. Since I have an Android tablet, and it has full-sized ports, it's very easy to put a bunch of pictures on a 16GB SDHC card from a computer, and pop that in the tablet (since it's SD card slot is full sized too).
I don't take it traveling even though I thought that I would; it's just not as convenient as you might think. I took my Sony VPCSE23FX/s with me on my last vacation. I have a sheet battery for it as well as the internal battery, so 8-10 hours is not uncommon on it. Check out time at the hotel was 11Am, but my plane did not leave till 5:30PM, so could you imagine having to hold a tablet for 5 hours? If you try to balance it on your leg it's going to teeter, which is not a problem for a laptop, not to mention the fact that the screen is at the correct angle when a laptop is sitting on your leg. You can get one of those easel stands for a tablet, but then you have to carry another piece of hardware with you, and you still can't rest your hands on the case of the tablet as it would now be some angle close to vertical.
Yes tablets are nice for checking email and other short time, non-intensive tasks like that, for relatively short periods of time, but beyond that you can't beat a laptop. Tablets are also nice for viewing photos on, as you can pass the tablet around a room like you used to do with a photo album. That's a bit awkward with a laptop.

When you use an ipad, you have to get a separate keyboard. Even the ones that come with the covers are too small. Also you have to use ipages so that is the disadvantage. Writing with the ipad using the virtual keyboard is hard because you cannot see all of your work whereas with a laptop, you can put the former draft and the one you are working on together. If you know what to write and if all you have to do is to change a few words around, the ipad is all right. I have mylotted on the ipad and the problem with me is that I have to get close enough and have it high enough on the table to see clearly.

For writing a couple of sentences, an ipad will do us fine. Like me, I am a biker, I prefer to bring with me an ipad. When I stop, I switch it open and check my emails and look at photographs I took during my biking tour. If I go out for a week on a business trip, I usually bring both my laptop and ipad.

I have never had an i pad. I have a net book and its keys are small. I find the screen much too small. It takes more effort to type an email to spend some time typing on My Lot when using that. I much prefer using my laptop and it is excellent for email messages plus typing on excellent My Lot. I won't be buying an i pad. I love my laptop and it is perfect for me.

The problem with laptops are perhaps they are bigger and heavier and are not suitable to use when we are on the go, for instance, we can't use it on the train. We sure can but it gives us a lot of hassles, I guess. Netbooks are smaller than laptops and less powerful. For writing work, I guess netbooks do us fine.

That's exactly the same thought that I have. ipads are suitable for checking emails or sending them too. I'd say that an ipad is a good companion when we present something. We can hold it while explaining the work.

I feel you shouldnt be doing work with your ipads. The problem is ipads run on a smaller processor than laptops. Obviously the performance is low. Its a fantastic device for watching movies.

Of course a laptop is much better than an ipad in terms of function. An ipad is just a mobile gadget. It can't be used for work at all times. It's much slower to type there than on a laptop.
I used to write on mylot using my ipad because i can just do that while i'm in bed or lounging in the sofa and i could write even if i change my position. The only trouble was I couldn't write as fast as i could on a laptop. I couldn't multi-task as fast as i could when i'm on my laptop as well.

That's exactly true, toni. On my ipad, I make lots of typos. When I make mistakes in spelling, I have to erase all letters in a word. on a laptop we can use a backspace to erase the mistake, right?

I think it solely depend on your activity. Once you have to use it for a typing or more office works it is better to go for a laptop. Or even if you have some entertainment on your device and some apps ipad is better.
I could say that there are some advantage and disadvantages for each device. So select an appropriate one.

Given a choice between ipad and laptop, i would at any moment go for laptop because lap top can provide all features in an ipad. the only advantage is ipad is small and light weight. but performance and power packed are still laptops.

I think when we have to do large amount of typing works, ipad is never a good option. Especially if you are a freelancer, to finish the job in time, you will have to do a lot for typing and stuff. You can never rely on ipad for such a stuff.

The ipad is not a work machine I don't think. It is for games and for watching movies, looking at photos and other such things. A virtual keypad is never going to be as good as a conventional keypad for doing a lot of typing. You cant tell when you have pressed the wrong key on a virtual keypad. I think if you are going to do any amount of typing on an ipad then you should invest in a bluetooth keyboard.

I've seen a photographer use an ipad to store all his collection of photos. He said he didn't need to bring lots of photo albums to his customers' home. All photos are stored in one place--an ipad. I guess that's how handy an ipad is.

You shouldn't buy an ipad if you don't like working on the go and make do with your smart phone on the way. I noticed some people work on their ipads while they were on the train, for instance or sitting in a restaurant awaiting their order or something.

If you have a huge collection of photos to show off, you would probably need an ipad to show them off with. Ipads can replace photo albums for professional photographers. Imagine bringing with you heaps of albums of photos to your prospective customers.

Hi Yan, regarding your work, it looks like your always on site and busy, I prefer ipad. You can handle it easily and you can edit all your documents. Laptop is good too but it really takes too much effort to open, handle it and carry it. Ipad will serves as you notebook. Since you can do all the things you need to do in your reports in the laptop which you can also in you ipad, then go for IPAD. :)

From my point of view, ipad is more convenient when we want to relax. We can read novels, magzines or something else. It may be popular among teenagers and childern, because it can satisfy their requirements. However, if we want to finish our work and sometimes homework, laptop is a better choice. It will be strange for me to work with a ipad. Therefore, I think if we have to choose one of them, laptop is a better option.
