Can you imagine yourself with a tag name "teacher's pet"? Personally, I can imagine myself to have my own pet, like dogs, cats, etc. For a human pet, I cannot deal with that idea. I mean is, being a teacher's pet of what they call it. I had seen those people a couple of times the students seem so untouchable. I feel so annoyed with that kind of inappropriate behaviors, emphasizing that they are the angels of our teachers. I don't feel bitter on this, since some teachers tried to be my friend during those days. However, I pulled myself away from it; I don't want to be label as such tag name. I have my own principles; if you are a teacher, then act as a teacher.

I sucked in school so there was no way I could of been a teacher's pet! This just reminds me of the cases of a teacher who gets so close to a student they become sexually involved with that student! Reminds me of that 17 year old dtudent who quit school to be with her teacher boyfreind, who had left his wife for her! That ended when he was arrested when the police found out he had been in another relationship with a student in the late '90's! then there is the case of the teacher who had an affair with a 12 year old boy! Had two babies with him! Spent time in prison for her relationship and ended up marrying him after he turned 18! Both these stories are extreme and make me sick!

Hi friend, mostly teachers like the students whoever studying well in the class, particularly if a student is good in their subject, then the student will become their pet and they call the student for their help. We can find this kind of teachers pet in all the schools, good to know that you are not interested in this concept, but most of the teachers still following this method and having their own pets

I've met some really cool teachers in my lifetime and I think some I could even call friends. I think there is a huge difference between genuine friendship and someone who is sucking up just trying to get good grades, that would be classified as a teachers pet in my opinion.

I have seen and experience student who feel secured being tagged as teacher's pet.
I understand if the student is a bright and intelligent one.
We cannot blame the teacher for choosing that student as their favorite.
But, if the student is not deserving and only did everything to catch the teacher's attention for security reason- then, those kind are the annoying ones.
I am not the best student but I can say that I am not the least either.
I am also one of those at the "dean's list" but, I never attached myself to any teachers.

These teachers who have what they call teacher's pet are no more than like a leech. They like a student so much, because that student would give them gifts always . And in return they give the said student good grades.
So shameful acts to both of them, but more on the teacher. Such teacher has no dignity at all.

Well, I had to say something about this. I was once tagged a "teacher's pet" in my school. But really, I don't care about what they call me. My friendship with my teacher is not part of the job, sure. But teachers are also humans you know. They know how to feel. They can be friends with anyone. And I never regret being friends with them because they helped me a lot. Especially now I am in college and still on adjustment period. Being friends with them is not a bad thing, as long as it does not affect anything or anyone.

I have never been called a teacher's pet in my whole life and honestly I don't think it's bad. I actually think it's cool to be called a teacher's pet. Pardon me, that's just how I feel. If someone calls me a teacher's pet and they think that I really am then it's okay. Just as long as I know for myself that I am not really teacher's pet. And if I really am, then I'll be grateful for it. It's not something that I have done or my fault.

I got called a teacher's pet all the time because I got straight A's in school. I never got in trouble either. I never gave a teacher gifts other than at Christmas when all the other kids did. It was awful being a teacher's pet because no one wanted to be friends with me-- they all treated me badly just because I was smarter than they were or worked harder and I didn't believe in causing trouble. I think teachers naturally are nicer to students who don't cause trouble and do their work, just like bosses are nicer to employees that do good work, are on time and don't cause problems. When you act right, you get treated better.
That being said, I don't think teachers who favor students because those students give them gifts and things are being totally unprofessional. Students who do well or try hard should get the attention they deserve. A teacher's job is to teach all their students, giving them as much or as little attention as they need to learn well.

I can imagine myself with the tag of "teacher's pet," and I know that it was a tag that I had many times while I was growing up. The reason that I had this tag in my life was because of the fact that I was always a person that was giving everything that I had to my work in school. There were some teachers that I had the pleasure of developing a friendship with, but I really think that the reason that I was a teacher's pet is because of the fact that I always put my best effort into all of the work that I turned in at school.

There were times before when I get irritated with people who try to look so good in front of the teachers. I always keep thinking why they have to do that other than the fact that the teacher might geive them a higher grade than those who are really deserving. My pride is far more important than acting all goody in front of a teacher. I can make my own grades and beat the heck out of their quizzes and exams.
It depends on the person's point of view of teacher's pet. To others, people with high grades are teacher's pet. As for me, it's those who try so hard to be friendly with the teacher with the intention of getting a higher grade.

I never tried to be a Teacher's Pet. But most of my classmate said that Teacher's Pet is bad at all. But for me, if you were on their shoe would you change your believes. They should experience first the people whom they are judging. Because not all teacher's pet is bad.

Hi Shavkat, thanks for posting this discussion because I had a bad experience at school with teacher who has favorite students. This happened few years ago actually but I still remember it. I was once had conflict with the favorite student, actually the girl was my roommate and the problem just internal problem between 2 girls and has nothing to do with school, but then it became one heck of life for me...I usually got A but then she gave me D and sometime she gave me F and the girl got A. I didnt say anything nor protested to the teacher. When the principle came back from her 2 weeks journey, she began suspicious when she saw my report and then she called me to her office and gave me test...and of course I got my A back. The teacher then tried to be nice but I ignored her. Her favorite student wasnt a bright student, but she knew how to get the teacher's heart. That teacher in my school has favorite student but also has the most dislike student, I had a friend that then decided quit from the school because the teacher bullied her and always called her in bad name like 1diot, ugly, etc. Yes, it is really happens and I think that woman doesnt deserve to be a teacher.
I agree with you, there is no use being teacher's pet. What's the benefit for us once we graduated from school? The tag mean nothing. I would rather get good grade because of my own hard effort.

I think that name is made by people who misunderstood the students loyalty or being an obedient. Anyway I don't exactly know what's the real score (situation) but I guess that student is not really a "teacher's pet" perhaps that student is just obedient. Well, you're right a teacher should act as one. The teacher has no right to dictate his students. It's students willingness to obey or not to the teacher but as a good student we do respect our teachers and vice versa.

Most teachers pet are smart and hardly a rule breaker, I had a teacher that like misbehavior as long as you dont let it happen in his class . I was not good in french I ask question a lot but everyone started to say I am his pet because he his not mean to me and he say I was a good role model and I was given prefect position and some where mad bla bla blah . I dont like the teacher pet nickname but it is only for a one year but that title better than some people get in school and life .
I remember hating the teacher when I just know him lol but he push me to get better grade in french.

Well,in my memory, there are many students want to be teacher's pet.
It seems ,thus, they can have more unique rights ,and they are proud of this.
But i dislike catering to teachers,so they din't like me as well.

Right. Well we really can't control this. It's known as favoritism. This really happens in school, work, church and politics. I think it is part of the human nature that your superior or teacher will like you if you are always agree to them. Or maybe if they admire you so much because of your good qualities might be your physical look or special skills. Sad to say sometimes this also happens in a family. Only God has no favoritism and He loves us equally.

I was never my teacher's pet.. but i know I'm 1 of those favorites but never took that fact for granted.. When we're inside the classroom, we act the way we should. Respect and limitations & distance.. I just felt I'm 1 of their faves because modesty aside I know I've excelled well. Being a teacher's pet by doing "out-of-school" tasks or favors, giving gifts to teachers and etc,,, well that's not good. it's like buying your teacher, but just in case teachers show a lil appreciation on you because you learn fast, responds well and a good student in their class, i think it's not bad at all.. In the first first you've gained their appreciated with efforts of studying :DD
Again, am not a pet but a favorite instead :$ XD cheers!
