That boy is ambitious and I hope he makes it out of poverty. I would certainly buy him the book and want to check on his progress, maybe I could do something else to help in his education.
Don't you have public schools there paid for by tax dollars? That is our system here so that everyone gets at least a rudimentary education. It's not very efficient anymore and needs a lot of work but kids can go to school "free" for 13 years and even their books are paid for.
I hope you will continue to support boys and girls who want an education. That is the only way out of poverty. Every religion that I know of tells us to be charitable and you are doing so, so good for you!

I think developed nations have got a fantastic policy in terms of education. As thushavi said, in developing nations, the situation is quite different. In many nations, primary education is free. But still students are not present. this is because of the fact that many families are poor. they fight to get a meal a day. So they let their child go for work. They cant afford to send their children to school even though education is free. this is a pathetic condition that exists in many nations.

If I were in the position to help I probably would. I am usually the one in need of help though. I would want to make sure the money was going were it was supposed to though!

That is quite a logical point that you have put through. In many places you see kinds begging the streets. Out of sympathy you pay something to these people and move off. What we fail to realise is that it is an organised racket which works behind it. It is infact a big business to do begging and the evening, these collections have to be given to someone who gives some pennies in return.

The United States pays millions of taxpayer money so everyone can have an education. I think the majority of it goes to the teachers unions and the school boards.

In a developed nation, the education infrastructure framework is more organised and transparent. Infact government can afford to fund education since they get enough amount in the form of taxes. Since poverty is non existant, families would send their children to schools also. But the conditions in other countries are extremely different. still poverty happens to be the order of the day in those nations.

Yes, I would do the same for as long as I have the money for it. I am not a rich person and some days are just hard. But if ever a boy comes to ask for help like buying him a book or anything that I think is important, I would not hesitate.

I can understand your sentiments regarding this. We should understand that help is not always given by money. You have a helping heart and you help others other than in monetary terms also would do fine. Its that we need to have that attitude and that is important.

Well we really have to help other people who are in need in any ways we could. I guess its human nature to help others. I could do the same as what you do.
Helping other people even in little ways could really help alot to them.

Infact our help might change the world for a person, we never know. But the problem is at times we are not much bothered about society and these things. Its all bout my money, my growth and stuff. So people end up ignoring poor people and this is the major reason for social divide.

Education is freedom from poverty in many cases and yes, I have done this so many times. In fact, I have about twenty small books that are suitable for young children in my suitcase right now to take home with me to where I live. I also beg and plead with people to have more money to give me their books that their children may no longer need so I can pass it on t those who need them. We all have to assist in any way possible and I commend you for buying the book.

When someone asks me for money, I don't think twice about helping them out if it is something that I am able to do, so I know that when it comes to someone that is asking for some money to further their education, there would be no way that I would be able to tel a person no if I had the money in my pocket that would be able to help them out.
I really think that people that are willing to help out those that are less fortunate than themselves are people that really are blessed in their own lives.

I congratulate you for doing a very good work. You helped a poor boy.God will bless you.You bought a book for a poor boy who wanted to study. You helped them. That way you have served your country. We see a lot of poor people struggling hard to make both ends meet or begging to satisfy their hunger. We,on the other hand, are in a position to help them to the extent our budget allows.Buying a book for a poor boy is easy for us.We can afford it,but for the poor boy it is something he can't even dream of.You have made a poor boy happy. That way you have pleased God.May He bless you and your family.

If I had the money they I would, but then again a lot of people catergorize themselves as being poor and they are not. I know one lady I work with right now who say they are poor, yet make more money than I do, have all name brand clothes, and have more than enough. So dont be fooled by some people and wanting things to be handed to them and not have to work for them.

It was wonderful of somebody to help someone who is really in need. I think probably you are planning to give off your old books to some library or something. Actually my dad had a collection of some good books. When we relocated to a new place, he gave it to a nearby library.

I have a self supporting theology student cousin who wants me to buy a 3 volume book for him. It costs 10 thousand pesos and it is equivalent to two hundred forty three dollars. In my whole life, I've never bought something for my self with that amount and I don't really have such amount presently. Sad to say I can't buy the book my cousin wants me to buy for his studies.

If you have a heart to help others, that is indeed the best thing you can have. I hope even you would have an opportunity to help others. Thats what makes our human race special in our ability to help our fellow beings.

That was a good deed that you had done today and equally nice that you shared it here. I remember in one of my school days, we had a book exhibition at school. Since I am fond of history , I saw a good history book, but I didnt have money to buy it. My teacher gave me the money and I bought the book. Next day i gave her the money, but she never took it. She said that she had gifted me that book. I still treasure that book a lot.

I have done that before. I have given children who don't have anything clothes, food, and books because you never know if they will get anything that day or what their home situation is. I think that if people see a child that genuinely looks like they need help, then do not hesitate to help them. You compassion and kindness could mean the world to them.

Definitely "YES". Not only me but my kids as well. They have learned to share their blessing to less fortunate kids especially during the start of classes. Every time we buy school supplies, my kids never missed to buy extra items to be given to kids living in nearby neighborhood. And they also give their old books to be reuse by these kids. And sometimes, we buy new books too to be given to them. It becomes a habitual for my family to share our blessing to the poor especially if we see that these kids are trying hard to go to school even if their parents can't afford to send them. Sometimes, it only take one kind heart in the family in order for other members to follow.
