Do you read and eat at the same time?

I eat three times a day and I read on and off throughout the day, whenever I stop for a break. These two activities take up a few hours, time I could save to use on myLot perhaps. I never combine the two, but perhaps that could work for me. Do you read a book when you are eating? I imagine that most of us eat a biscuit when we are reading but a full meal I think would be a distraction from the book, or magazine. What do you think, are you a multi-tasker or are you like me and just do one thing at a time?

I used to read while doing almost everything. My eyes are not what they were now, so I have to sit in a special way with my glasses on and place the book a a certain distance. That does not help that kind of reading. I tend to get books with bigger letters for that purpose, but I am picky as to what I read do it doesn´t always work. Right now I´m rereading a book I love (East of Eden, small font) and reading Midnight Children (smaller letters)
Multitasking is going away with age too. Now it´s one task (or I forget what I was doing) and lists that I missplace. Such is life!

the important thing is that you continue to read regardless of the inconvenience. I can sympathise with the multitasking, it is more difficult as one gets older.
I think MyLot helps to keep us young, keeps us in touch with younger people and their opinions. Best regards.

Hi friend, we can eat snack items while reading, but it is hard to take meals while reading, as reading requires concentration as well as we don't have the ability to eat well while reading, so i never combined this two activities

I quite often eat as I read. Not so much meals but I definatly snack while I'm reading. Of course, I'm one who reads as I cook and reads as I bath and reads while I watch TV. If the kids are out and it's just me home for dinner I'll try to make something that only requires one hand to eat and then I'll read while I eat dinner as well.

Good day 41CombedaleRoad,
With regard to your topic, I consider myself a multi-tasker too. That, I can do and finish 3 task at the same time. As well as, I can read and eat at the same time. And this was the thing I always do when I was still working in an office. As I love to read inspirational books. Hence, I can only do that whenever I have my lunch break. So, I am having my lunch while reading inspirational thoughts to fonder.

Lottas do not seem to go for novels, I wonder if there is a reason for that. Instead it is inspirational books and self improvement reading that gets the vote. Perhaps being a Lotta fills the gap that a novel might otherwise fill, after all our discussions are often quite emotional and exciting.

Good to hear that u love reading books and have some snacks while reading those. i strongly feel that having snacks like a biscuit or a tea is OK while reading but having a heavy meal is not good for health. It is always advisable to do one task at a time and concentrate on one thing. It will not take away the focus while reading and u can get into the skin of the topic very well.
What say?

Recent studies indicate that multi tasking is not a good way to go and that we really accomplish more doing one thing at a time. I would be afraid of getting food or drink on my book if I read while eating. I did have the habit, when my children were little, of reading to them at the table when I finished my food.

I read discussions while eating. Does that count? I watch tv while Mylotting. I don't read persay. What woman doesn't multi-task? Drives me crazy if I am not doing two things at once. ANd there is only 24 hours in a day so can we get every thing we want to do done if we don't? Makes sense to me!

I don't read if there are other people in the house, because in my family we like to keep meal times to talk to each other about the things that we have been doing during the day or week. But, if I am on my own, then I will sometimes use dinner time to read a chapter of a book that I am enjoying, or I will read a couple of pages of a magazine that I am part of the way through. I have to check my emails while I am having my breakfast so I suppose that is reading, and I will usually read a newspaper while I am having lunch. It is either that, or I simply don't have the time to do it at all all day, so this is much better than nothing.

I more or less stick to regular hours for my meals. Early morning cuppa, breakfast around 7.30, light snack around 11, lunch around 1 p.m. a snack around 4. I do not have dinner but have a beverageinstead. (Horlicks and honey in a hot bowl of milk) Even when guests are around I make them follow my routine but ofcourse they are served dinner! I do not like reading while I am eating.
Its 11 in the morning here - time for my snack!

I can do multitasking when i want, but i think eating a meal while reading will only distract you from your nutrient. food, especially home cooked meal, is there to be savored, chewed, and enjoyed. unless there's some emergency, i am against eating a full course meal while reading.

Hi,
You are right. Eating biscuit while reading book can be possible. But reading book while taking meals is not a good habit. We should concentrate on a one thing at a time. I don;t like multitasking. Doing more than one job at a time is not fair. Work can not be done effectively.

Would you believe me when I say that I eat, a full meal even, while reading a book or magazine? A habit of mine which my mother frowns upon. She always scolds me about this. Now that I am no longer living with her, it is my husband's turn to scold me. :)

I sometimes bring my tablet and place it on top of the dinner table while I and my nieces are eating during snack time. I spend the time reading my friends' blogs and checking out the latest updates on their sites and Facebook pages while gobbling up pizza and drinking coffee... does that count?
If it's multitasking we're talking about, my sister is such an expert in that. She would watch TV, talk on the phone and write something simultaneously.

I always do that when reading.. Eating while reading something like articles or books or even on the internet while surfing. :)
It's really nice to do and it doesn't bore me too. :)
