You can install a malware remover along with any antivirus software (I suggest Avira Free Antivirus as I've been using this for years). This protection is sufficient for practical purposes. You may read this article:

Oh, I forgot to mention the name of the malware remover. It's malwarebytes.

I am aware of Malwarebytes, avira not so much but it always worries me when an antivirus is free!

I've been using Avira for years. The only downside is that it uses a good amount of system resources.

I stick with the free microsoft security essentials. I have never found the need to pay for virus scans. I know for the most part how to go in and take out viruses myself though so it isn't really something I need. But for the basics MSE works great.

I suppose that makes sense. Everyone seems pretty satisfied with it in this discussion!

Yes MSE is great amongst free AVs. I mean who better can understand Windows protection than Windows itself. I was going to suggest MSE as well. I've been using it for years now. Never fails me. In fact it manages to detect malwares from my friends' pen drives even though they have better and purchased AVs. Thus, I'm sticking with MSE. Good day!

Mostly referring to store-brand ones. Name some off and hey, if they are ones I know oh well! haha

I always use AVG free. It can cover quite a lot of what you need to have to protect and detect the infection. If you want to fight some bad as monstrous virus, then get the paid one. Mcaffee can kill almost anything, they cost some money but you are very protected. My personal experience by the way.

I was paying for webroot for years and then my brother-in-law said why are you paying for it when you can have it for free. Thats when he told me about microsoft Essentials. I have had it now for over a year and have had no trouble with it. Its great to have something for free for a change, especially since it works really good.
