I argue the formal education is important, but not everyone can be a chance to keep up. so I think if someone kwon how to read, write and count thatt is enough for his capital to live. do you agree?

Hey thanks a ton for such a lovely discussion. i think formal education is not only important but a necessity factor for all the human beings. It is the responsibility of very individual to get educated so that he can use that experience in the future to earn a living for himself. Without any education, it is not only important to make valid decisions in life but also difficult enough to compete in this highly competitive world but it is a matter of regret that most of the people are deprived of this basic right and i hope every one realizes the importance of formal education in their lives. What say?

Basic education upto 10th class is useful. If that is not possible due to various factors such as both parents die, there is nobody to take care -- then reading, writing and counting in one's own language is sufficient. Positive thinking, proper friendship, avoiding bad habits will help one succeed to some extent.

hanselrix: Normally in mylot descriptive responses/replies/comments are encouraged. It is not know from which country are you coming? Perhaps you are also from non english country and are hesitant to make detailed responses. I may add in mylot grammar is not given importance but our desire to communicate clearly is appreciated.

I have just been to University and gained my degree, and I think that it is probably one of the best things that I have ever done to try and prepare myself for the future. One of the things that you have to think about is the fact that when you're looking for a job, you will be competing against a lot of other people, and if you have a better level of education than them you will be the one who will most likely be chosen for the job rather than other people who wouldn't have got as good qualifications as you would have been able to get.

the workforce has two types competition.... 1. education competition level 2. ability competition level which do you choose??

Depends on what a particular person actually looking for. If he/she wants something bigger than simply work 8 hours a day, and 40 hours a week, and make a decent living, that should be enough. For someone who has ambition to pursue bigger than life goal, we should go much further to upgrade ourselves constantly.

so...how do you think it's a decent life?

Hi hansel! The foundation that we get in formal education is our weapon in our battle in life. Although others may become successful even if they do not have undergone formal education, I could say that those are rare cases. Even these people who became successful, they would still want to finish their studies. Because education will not only increase our knowledge but also give us satisfaction and a proof that we are really capable of doing something. The certificate we got from studying, is not just a piece of paper, it is a proof of how far we have been. A proof of our achievement.

I agree on that, they are always a way to learn. Some people took the advantage of working, while studying. That is the "will" power.

I definitely agree. For humankind to survive, we only need to learn how to read, write and know our maths. Completing one's formal education and getting a diploma is only our current society's requirements but it does not mean that it's already necessary for humankind. Maybe in order to maintain this kind of standard of life that we're having right now, this is necessary. In short, our economy needs its citizens to complete formal education to maintain this present civilization we have. If we won't, most people fear, we go down the drain--which I greatly disagree.

welcome to mylot nice to see the new member here.. i do hope you will be active for longer time.. in several country especialy the developed country, formal education and the certificate is neccesarry we are not like USA when the skill or ability is number one and can still survive.. remember the great man like the founder of Facebook or microsoft owner didn`t graduate their university level but they will be accepted by society and get the space for living..It is caused because in USA, certificate is number two after the skill or ability

I disagree. As a person who is education and who continues with his education (I am taking up post-graduate studies), I believe that formal education especially in our society today is more crucial than ever. Why do I say it? It is because our society today, especially the workplace, demands formal education and competence. Without achieving university level or without having a degree, it will be harder for anyone to succeed in the business world. Being able to read, write and count is no longer enough to land a job at a good company. You have to have a university degree or even a post-graduate degree for you to be able to get your dream job.

Hi friend, welcome to mylot. Surely formal education is important to every one. without education we don't have the ability to shine in this competitive world. So we must focus in education to get more knowledge and get good job based on our qualification. If we don't have the ability to learn a lot, at least we must have the basic reading and writing knowledge to face the challenges in our life
