Hi. I just hate long one para or two para discussions. i just dont like to read those lengthy 150+ words discussion. whenever i want to post any long discussion i tried to kept it short, so that mylotters don't have to stare for 10 secs in need to read line. actually in my case, most of things i dont understand in long discussions so i dont post replies there. short and sweet is best. what u think. cheers.

What do I think?
I think that one man's meat is another man's poison.
If there is a long topic then there will preusmably also be many points that can be discussed and therefore there will be a chance to get a good discussion going with an interesting response and then, hopefully, lots of exchnages in the comments too.
Isn't that what myLot is about? Discussing?
There is never much, if anything, tio dicsuss ina short topic surely?
By the way, myLot tell us to use English.
'u' is text language and not English and it doesn't show up in searches therefore it is not the quality that myLot require. Just sayin'.

as i said it depend on person thats why i asked what you all think about it. but as you said long discussion helps in conversation going and thats rigt but sometimes no one ever will reply on that kind of discussion. just post discussion upto a point so that every one can read and enjoy it.
sorry for using text language here. i will keep it in my mind. cheers.

I told you about the text language for you as your earnings will suffer if you don't post in English
I find it easier to spend the time on one long discussion rather than going from one to another where there is not much to discuss. As myLot pays us for our particpation and not for each post, it is not necessary either to start many or respond on many either. If there is a lot to read there is usually a lot to discuss too, in my opinion.

I enjoy staying mostly in one or two discussions if they are active enough to contribute in a few areas.
Like Raj said also the people here will help you out no matter with your english or whatever they can help you with, they will.
Sometimes it might be difficult to understnd if english is the second language but it will help you learn eventually if you stick with it!

Not bad having a long discussion if the topics is good enough to response. It is true that reading long discussion is hard to get the intention of the poster. But we need to go on the more detailed paragraph to find the best way to give our ideas on the matter...

Personally a lot of it for me, depends on the discussion itself, and what the person is trying to share. There are many of my friends here who have started lengthy discussions that I often will gladly respond back too. I never go just by length as many times I find the shorter discussions not always the easiest ones to want to respond back too.

I think you're going to miss out on some good discussions if you just read the short ones. A longer post allows one to get their more thought for discussion to be included. What's your hurry anyway? You just want to spend ten seconds in reading? I don't understand that. I see that you even shorten your own words in your topics.

Rereading, I think what he/she is trying to say is they can't stand long posts in solid blocks of text. Not so much the length in total, more the length of each "chunk", with which I agree entirely.
Reading from the screen isn't at all like reading print. How the hell people get on with Kindle I will never fathom ...

@yoyo let me give you example- if you are watching a movie which will end in 2 hours but if same movie will end in 3 hrs, why would u watch the same movie for 3 hours, if the movie was unnecessarily made lengthy. i want to say why one just say every detail, just get to the point. cheers.

Hello swats89, That totally depends on you, better not respond or ignore it to look for a shorter ones. short and sweet is also good not to mention you made your point there. but in mylot, there's so many post and written paragraphs to your discussion, that's when you earn something big or atleast more than the few post. but that's you, and we respect that

Really it depends on my mood. I just used to respond to long as well short discussions but not at all the time. Most of the time I felt that short discussions are quite good and quite interesting as well as easy, not only me but also many fellow myloters like me.

I agree with you, it depends on what mood I'm in. Sometimes, if I'm in the mood that when I'm reading a long discussion, all I'm seeing is blah, blah, blah, blah. I sometimes don't like the longer discussion, because you have to read the lengthy discussion and some times, I get lost in the lengthy discussion when I could be writing quality responses on shorter discussions and writing more.

What I have found on the Internet, is that people like to read shorter paragraphs than they would from a book or magazine. In a writing class I did many years ago, that is what the teachers were saying. Although the Internet wasn't as popular then as it is today, reading off the screen seemed more tiring than reading off a page. I think that perhaps that is why there will always be paper books about and the E-books will not completely take over. Just my opinion, and I know that everybody has different tastes. _Derek

An interesting discussion will grip my attention for 5 paragraphs or more - so long as there are plenty of line spaces. What I can't read are long posts with no spaces at all.
If a discussion is too short, there's less chance I will be bothered to reply.

hi swats89,
in my experience, there are things that needs lengthy discussions as well as short ones like - that needs to end with a sentence.
but am not sure if you do realize that the more you read, the more your mind is practiced. and you get analytical.
what i dont like is cursing whether in writing or in a wordy discussion. it just shows how a person requires anger management.
have a nice day.

Hi. What I think, it depends on whether I can relate to the discussion or not. It does not matter whether it is a short or long post, but if I find it is rather boring or not interesting after few sentences, then I will just skip to another discussion as what I find is boring could be interesting to others. It is the same case as your post here. For you, it sounds short and sweet, but it doesn't prove your point unless you get the responses from half of myLot population. . Haha, no hard feelings, just my opinion. Cheers!

i don't hate them, it depends on the discussion, how interesting it sounds, and my mood, if the discussion is worth reading ,then i will read it no matter how long, but if its not then i ignore it. many times we have to write long discussions, as per the story line or else people wont be able to understand it, so it depends ,on the topic.

Hi friend, some of the mylotters are in your sort and don't have patience to read long topics. It is based on the individual wish, we must give importance to the time and effort of the topic creator and give importance to the long topics, if it is good and have some points with it.

but the guidelines don't tell us how long or short our discussions should be.
the guidelines also don't tell us which discussions we should respond to.
those who write long discussions have their reasons so pass them by if you don't like them.
most of us might not even know how long 150+ words is.
if short and sweet is the best for you, then do so.
what's important is we read and understand the topic (long or short) first then give our sincere, helpful and/or relevant response.

No the guidelines say nothing about length but just that it needs to be of quality. That word "quality" will be different for everyone but this is what we need here in myLot, not just a long chunk of words.

that's what i said, we are free to write long or short (as long as it's within the guidelines). conversely, members are free to respond or ignore. i guess i'm reacting to the use of the words "hate" and "best." the tone of the discussion would be different if he added "in my opinion" or "for me." but don't imply that one is better than the other and should be followed by everyone else. we have our ways of mylotting.
about quality, if you can say a lot in 1 or 2 sentences that adds a new layer or angle to a discussion, i think that's quality as well.

I meant to agree, sorry I guess the first word as a "no" didn't really seem like I was.
I think that if you're able to do so with even just a couple of words then that is great but I can't typically do that. I need and like to write a bit more (The one or two words meaning in a comment, not the initial start of a discussion though.)

I am just new to this site but what I look for in a post is not the length. I look for interesting topics so I know I have something I will be able to contribute to the topic. If I can find topics that I like then I think it might be possible to make friends on this site that I have something in common with.

Hello creativedigital,
You are on the right path. Better look for intersting topic rather heading towards big discussions and replying.
Have a great weekend... Cheers.

Well we all like different things on mylot and since there are plenty of short discussions you should have an easy time finding lots to comment on. I actually like long discussions because they are usually more interesting and have more thought put into them as well as they give me more to respond with.

My kinda man. Yes, I also like to keep it short. Why do I need to say a lot, just because it's MyLot. I would rather say a few well-chosen words and let the reader ponder over it. I don't read long discussions, not because I don't like reading, but rather because I hardly find time. Reading lengthy discussions, is otherwise okay with me. But when it comes to my discussion, I, like you, intend to make it brief and to the point.

oh, it is nice when you post a short discussion but it has much information in it. We are in here for discussing so that we can post freely our opinion, even though it is short or long...
I like to read long responses as long as it is interesting...

hi ryanong, I was saying what I hate and its my personal opinion. Every one has his/her own taste and I complete respect them. I also don't like two liner or three liner post. If the post don't have quality, no one would like to comment on it. cheers.

me too. i hate reading flowery paragraphs. i think it is best to write short and concise discussions. it will bore your readers right before they even start to read.

If it is long, I usually will avoid it or just comment on the subject matter told in the title.

Huge mistake to do that because often, very often, the title is only a slant on what the real topic concerns - and irrelevant responses don't earn anything

It is better to avoid such big discussions if you are in hurry to read it fully rather commenting to that...

Irrelevant comments don't help anything and you likely will not get earnings for those if the admin realizes this. I've tried to read through at least the first 2 - 3 pages worth of comments so that I may have something that no one else has said. myLot does say to read ALL comments though in all discussions.
