Last month i reduced my electricity bill around 40% of my previous usage. I will share the ways below. I change normal bulbs to power saver bulbs, which helped me to save the power a lot, since power savers will consume lower electricity compared to the normal bulbs. Previously i used AC through out the night while sleeping, but my wife advised me to reduce the usage of AC. We just use AC until getting sleep after that we switched off it and have a good sleep with the coolness in the room, it saved a huge money for us We changed our old fridge and washing machine and bought new devices with 5 star rating which is very much useful to reduce the EB charge. With this modifications we saved around 40% of EB bill and happy with the new appliances. We have the ability to organize our usage and reduce our billing amount. By organizing our current usage, we are saving the power and helping the government as well as reducing our EB bill.

Electricity cost is really high these days , somethings you can do to reduce cost is , turn the lights off in rooms that you are not using , use energy saving bulb , solar water heater , Unplug appliance when you are not using them instead of just turning them off .

I reduced my electric bill by unplugging everything I was not using. Lamps, the toaster and the toaster oven, my microwave which is not digital, my toothbrush, etc. Even when not in use, these things draw power and it is called "vampire electricity" or something like that. I don't unplug my TV because if I did the DVR and TiVO would have to reboot every time and use even more power. Unplug nightlights and other things that are passive--not actively used but they turn on when it is dark. Try that and see what a difference it makes on your bill. I save $15 dollars a month, as well as I can figure, and that's pretty significant. If you have a gas hot water heater you can save, too, by turning it way down. Water doesn't have to be scalding to be effective. Fix it so that when you shower the water is very warm but not actually hot. You will save a few dollars a month that way.

I have seen some people not even switching the plugs off and simply switching off with the remote control. I think this do indeed take electricity.

It is very important to try keep down the bills. We get 'Level Pay' here and that is where they average out our last six months of bills and we pay the average. So that is nice. Teaching kids to turn off lights, computers, tv's, player, game machines, etc. is a good idea. And only using the A/C when it is really needing and not consitantly. Using the sun for heat in the Winter months where you can instead of turning on the heat is a good way to economize.

I also think that it is good to depend less on machines like washing machine, computers, air conditioner, etc and to use them only when necessary. I think it is always good to use sun and wind for winter and summer times and to have eco friendly houses as far as possible.

Yes there are some, which could effectively reduce your electricity bills. First of all you make sure that your computer is not working idle. In that case you can shut down monitor and have some defragment and all in your pc. Another way you should be careful while switching on any device.

I too have heard that computer consumes quite a lot of electricity...I make it a point to shut it down when I go out and at night when I sleep.Using CFL bulbs cuts your bill in less than half and also making sure that all unwanted lights are switched off ! Heating elements consume the maximum amount of electricity so we should switch off iron and hot plate the moment it reaches the maximum heat and this can be used for sometime...I manage to iron at least two dresses after switching off the iron...

The only way of getting your bill low is switching off the fans and lights when you leave a room romm! ( i too did but i did not check the bill , may be it would have helped ) , These days everything is electrical and you cannot survive without electricity , you should probably get adjusted with that!

I've been trying to do a lot of small things: turning off lights when we're not in the room, turning off the computer at night, unplugging charging cords when they're not in use, and hang drying my laundry. I'm still trying to find more. The world is becoming an expensive place.

Small water drops makes a huge rain. I think small small savings of electricity like you have said turning off the lights when not on room, etc will help to save some electricity.

Only use lights if you need them. Spend more time outdoors. Cut down on heating and cooling. Unplug appliances you seldome use, unplug chargers when not in use. Use light from your windows and open them when the weather permits.

I started replacing the house lighting from the normal light bulbs to energy saving bulbs. One of the most energy sapping light bulb has to be the halogen bulbs which are bright but consumes a lot of electricity. The next item that needs replacing is the house's old refrigerator. If your house fridge is more than 6 years old then, I would encourage you to replace it with the latest environmentally safer model which does not need CFC gas and more energy saving. The above 2 are my household's heavy energy consumption appliances and after replacing them my electric bill actually went down by 15%. Next on the list would have something to do with our housekeeping where we need to reduce less clutter throughout the house premises. This is important when you have air conditioning and clutters in your house will contribute to dust accumulation that will create blockades in the blades and air filters of the air conditioners. When that happens the appliance will need more electricity to operate and keep the temperature at the choice optimum level. Self cleaning and annual professional maintenance will be very necessary to keep them operating at the most optimum and energy saving mode. A little change with the house interior is also another way where we can save some money. One of it will be having the larger part of the house to be painted in light colors so that the rooms could be brighter and have a lesser use of lighting. Windows also play an important part in keeping the house bright putting shades or solid curtains will just hinder natural light in the daytime from illuminating the house. In the daytime, we should always remember to let in as much light as possible from the windows. Lastly, it would have to be some common sense and good habits like switching off unused appliances turning off the appliance is usually not enough. It would be better to switch of the main switch at the appliances' connector.

I should mention that LED lighting is getting more powerful almost every day. LED "bulbs" demand higher investment than other forms of energy efficient lighting, but their increased lifetime more than makes up for it. I think, too, that they are even more energy efficient and environmentally better, too.

I have recently seen a claim that LED light can cause pin-point damage to the retina. I don't know how true this is. I would like to say watch this space, but I can't. What I must say is just watch whatever you can easily watch to see whether there is any substance in it.

Handing over electric production and distribution to private sector with no interference by the government is only solution to get better power supply on more regular basis and on a lower rate.

I would have thought so, but my far more savvy brother is not so sure. The private sector has its own deficiencies, too, and competition may be totally imaginary, especially when it comes to utilities, I mean, how many companies' power lines or gas pipes can you lay in the same road?

Base on my experience, I use to buy appliances with lower watts. And I manage to think withot opening my refrigirator (im Joking). Best way is to minimize the usage of Lights, Aircons and Heaters

Well some of the things that help is making sure all the lights are off when you are not in them except for lights you feel are needed kept on. Then during the winter months, keeping the heat down in rooms you are not in, and when you are not home. You might also turn your monitor off on your computer when not using it, your computer on sleep mode, etc. Being able to find ways to keep your utility costs down is a good thing.

I just follow the advice of our electric company like making sure everything is switched off when not in use;limited usage of AC unit, and unplugging appliances instead of keeping them on stand-by mode.

I use the mirowave mostly now. for when I use my electric stove the bills are always higher. I also set the furnance down to 68 or 70 degrees. even 65 sometimes. I like it cool enough to sleep at night under cover. I use Christmas outdoor lights on my porch , clear ones are great for night light outside. it has great light and draws less bugs. the solar lights are great but can get high if you have to buy batteries alot in some.. I find this has helped on my electric bill. also cover your windows with that extra plastic to keep out air and check your doors if need repaired in anyway.

Of course there is a way to reduce our electricity bill. First of all, not only turning off all of the electrical appliances when you are not using, but also unplug them too. Unplugging all of the unused electrical appliances can reduce the lost of electricity. Secondly, you should buy an electronics energy saving device which can reduce your electricity consumption around 20%. However, different brand may have different saving rates. Thirdly, you should pay a bit higher price for the latest energy saving electrical appliances especially like the Freezer, Air-conditioner and so on which we use very often. We can save a lot of money for long term budget. Fourthly, replace the conventional water heater by solar water heater. Finally, do use all of the energy saving electronics light fittings which can allow us to save around 15% to 25%, subject to the specified brand too. With these few steps, I am sure you can save quite much of your electricity bill.

I invested in a thermodynamics system. When I received the user manual I realised that the non-solar bit was merely an air to water heat pump, definitely more efficient in cost than electric heating, but not really very different when compared to gas (Mind you, the difference between gas and electricity is a market-driven thing). At the moment, the savings from solar water heating are marginal.

Of course there are so many things we can do to decrease electricity consumption. First of all just be sure to turn off all appliciances that aren't in used. Don't buy any appliances that aren't useful really in our day to day use.
