American contemporary books turned into movies

In honor of the film The Perks of Being a Wallflower coming the the big screen (I have seen it already, liked it, and would recommend it) I want to hear about other books to film that you like. To be very specific I am thinking about books that were written in the last 60 years that made it to the big screen. One movie that I like even though it is a little nuts is Rules of Attraction that starred James Van Der Beek, Ian Somerhalder and Shannyn Sassoman. Let's not forget The Green Mile (R.I.P. Michael Clarke Duncan). I know that I have others that are escaping me right now but I know other people have some good movies they like that were books once. What books of the little over half century that became movies do you like?
