Caught in a dilemma

I was studying a while ago for my incoming major exams this coming week and my fellow youth head sent a message to me and asking updates about our incoming regional youth conference this coming October 28-29. She said that we need to visit the venue this coming October 13 for early preparations and I told her that I am not available because I still need to study for FOUR major exams and a variety show. October 13 will also be the first day that we could practice for our variety show(requirement in ENGLISH subject). Then she keeps on insisting that I should go. I am now pretty confused on what to do. Any suggestions would be a lot for me. Good day mylotters.

You did the right thing... studies should always come first and extra activities second... she could always take someone else with her but you can never ask anyone to study for you or take the exam for you... And if she really is a good youth leader... she would understand why you had to turn her down... but if she is really persistent... then better think twice of staying in that group or having her as a leader... because she needs to understand that studies should always be the priority...

Thanks for the immediate reply. By the way, it is a religious group wherein I am also attached and committed. It just so happened that my priority now is my study and grades for I really need some catching up to do for my grades in previous grading periods were quite low. I keep on explaining to her those things but she keeps on insisting.

I was also a part of a religious group when i was in college... in fact... i was president of the Catechist Org... but i never obliged any of my officers or members to prioritize the org instead of their studies... we had to maintain a certain grade point average because we are tasks to teach children about the values of the Catholic Religion... and we wouldn't be that effective if we had low grades...

I also prioritize my studies and even me, I would really suggest to my co members not to prejudice their studies.

tell her that the exams are important to you because you would like to succeed in life. don't forget to apologize and write her an I.O.U!

Thanks for that. I think she's just saying such because she is also in pressure. She is a type of person that becomes really bothered when pressured and be caught in dilemma.

I am pretty sure, you knew what to do. Keep in mind the priorities in your life. Good luck to your possible decision. Good day!

If that is your "youth head" then he/she should know better what priorities of a student has. You may be incharge of it- but at least she/he can find someone who is available as proxy. What's the use of any youth conference if you fail at school? Your head should have guided you instead of confusing you what to do. Ask any of your co-staff or any from your committee.. Any committee has set of people.. I won't believe you're the only 1 in charge for that :) Just tell them you may not do it this time- but when your free and able you'd make it up to them.
