i am having outside food as i do not know how to cook..

hey guys, my parents are out of station for 5 days and i had to stay at home due to my other priorities but the worst part is that i have to depend on outside food as i do not know how to cook. i even do not know how to turn on the gas or where to rotate the knob of the cooking station. Coincidentally my mother has locked the kitchen fearing that i might mess up with the kitchen. So i have to stay on outside food for 5 days and have to be extra cautious regarding this otherwise it would not go well with my health to live on outside food for 5 days. What are your thoughts regarding this? U had any experience like this?

Hmm, depending on fast food or outside food for 5 days can have an effect on your health so you should try to be more selective. However, you can try preparing simple home dishes like friend chicken maybe? Recipes are easily available online and are easy to follow. :) Stirred fried rice also works! Or maybe you could try inviting a friend to come over and help you out with cooking. Good luck and I wish you the best of health!

I have a personal favorite Youtube channel called "foodwishes" most recipes require several ingredients but if you follow the instructions they're pretty easy to do. :D Also, sandwiches and such are easy to prepare yet nutritional, so those would be great as well. Has your 5 days of independence already started? Good luck! :D

It isn't healthy nor cost effective to live that way for five days. I hope that yo uhave adequate funds to do this. I would suggest once you get a chance to learn to cook some basic things. Even some boiled eggs or fried eggs, pancakes, macaroni and cheese, something so you can live on it when things like this arise.

Hey thanks a ton for your response. Yes u are absolutely right, it is neither healthy nor cost effective to have such a lifestyle but i am forced to do it as i have no other option, even the kitchen room is closed. Well i have adequate money to live properly for these 5 days and yes i am planning to try out those food that can be prepared without heating or boiling. What say?

Hey thanks a ton for your response. Yes u are very much correct, i need to have some basic ideas about the food which do not require any extensive cooking skills and in the process i will get to know many other food item alternatives that will help me if i ever get to face such situation in the future. i would then feel safe and secured that at least i am having knowledge about cooking and so. What say?

That's a good pursuit for you to learn at least that much. Once you learn a little cooking the rest might seem more interesting to learn in the future. Then when y ou're alone you can at least take care of yourself.

Ohhh God outside food is not good why you are eating daily outside food. At least make rice and eat with curd or make Dal fry and eat with rice.

Thanks a ton for your response again. Well yes i know outside food is not hygienic and healthy at all but i have no other option other than doing it as my kitchen room is locked and i do not know anything about cooking. I have to make adjustments for 5 days and wait eagerly to have home made food unless and until my parents are back from the trip. What say?

I know how to cook so I don't have any experience on this. But when I am lazy to cook, I just buy outside too. You just have to be very careful because sometimes, the other stores aren't that clean. Have a nice day!

You still have time to learn. Don't lose hope. It's better to learn so in the future, you can cook delicious food by yourself. It tastes way better than any food outside.

Hey thanks a ton for your response again. Yes u are absolutely right, i have plenty of time left with me and would definitely take some cooking lessons from my mother once she is back from her trip. I am desperate to learn basics of cooking so that i can implement myself in the future. Of course home made food are always nutritious and healthier than outside food. What say?

Hey thanks a ton for your response. Well yes u are absolutely right, i am also a lazy person like u and because i had never asked my mom to teach me some cooking lessons. She had this notion that i might mess up with the cooking station and kitchen when i am all alone and end up causing disaster for myself when she is not here and hence i had to depend on outside food nowadays. Yes we all need to be extra cautious while handling cooking stations and all as anything can happen suddenly if we are absent minded and this is the reason why she has barred me from entering the kitchen. He he. What say?

i have not any experience anything like this.,your parents should have taught you how to use the gas or you should have looked and helped when your parents are cooking, so you can learn. if you rely on them all the time, what happens if they are not there anymore and you don't know anything? i think we should learn to cook even instant food and to use things around the house, to be independent when other people are not there to cook or prepare anything or something for us. just try to know and learn sometime, so will you know next time.

Hey thanks a ton for your response. Yes u are right i should have learned this skill till now so that i would never had to face this problem like the one i am facing now. i think its high time that i take cooking lessons from my mother once she is back from her trip so that i can learn few handy basic fundamental cooking tips that i can carry out in case of emergency situations as well. Yes in case i am getting some food outside then it should be from a good reputed source so that i never fall ill in their absence. What say?

Sounds like a real problem you have. The part about not being able to cook or use the cooking tools, I mean, not the eating outside part, lol! Homecook meal is the best, because you know what you're putting inside, health wise. Maybe learn to cook when your mom returns? :) That said, just go to your regular eating place in the meantime, places you know have good reputation health-wise. Good luck!

I really loved your suggestion of going to those places where there is good reputation of cooking food and i will seriously take your words. Thanks a lot. What say?

You're mom should've taught you how to do basic cooking. It's not that hard to cook once you learn. I just print recipes online and go from there that's how I learn and then once I get good at it I can just throw things together on my own. I love to cook now. Just try eating healthy foods when you have to order out and stuff. I would hate to waste my money on food for 5 days while they were gone. You could also just go to the store and buy microwavable foods and stuff that should be easy for you to do. Good luck.

Yes i know it is wastage of money for these 5 days but i had no other options. may be i have to look out for some outside healthy foods. What say?

Cooking is a basic survival skill. It is something that you should already have learned, and it is rather odd to think that someone past their pre-teen years has never learned to even turn on a stove. It is not too late to learn to prepare food, though. Start with basic things that require little preparation. Doing things such as boiling eggs, steaming veggies and cooking rice, lentils, or pasta are all very easy. It takes time and creativity to turn these things into spectacular meals, but it is a start. Some pasta cooked al dente tossed with some lightly steamed fresh veggies and olive oil served with a greens salad is a good beginner's meal. Chopping up some veggies and stir frying them in a bit of oil and adding in a bit of tofu is another fairly easy thing to do. When your mother returns from her travels, tell her that you want to learn to cook. Ask her to show you how to prepare some basic dishes. If she does not trust you enough to do that, seek out another teacher--someone who will allow you access to a kitchen and give you some guidance to get started.

I am sorry to hear that you are in such tough situation. But I have to say I am doubt about your situation. Firstly, how old are you? According to your words, I figure that you may be young, and you may be a student. If you are a student, there are no problems for you because you can eat in your school canteen, I consider that the food in school canteen is healthy and nutritious. So you don't need to eat outside food. But if you aren't a student, and you may be an adult. I should say you are too lazy and inability. As an adult, you still depend on your mother for your meal. I should say, Ushit. Otherwise, you should consider that why you still can't "turn on the gas" by yourself. Are you a kid of four years old...

That sucks. I was lucky though because anytime my dad left town, he did the cooking in the house, there were meals to be heated and eaten around. My mom didn't cook because she worked a lot and this only happened when I was in grade/elementary school and middle/ secondary school. It has been ages since then. I mean I would think that it wouldn't have been hard for you to try just doing pasta in boiling water. I think that if you may want to work on cooking with your mom when she gets back so that this doesn't happen to you again. It is really costly and like you said not good for your health if you order in a lot of junk. Make sure you add some salads or vegetables to what ever you are ordering in.

Hey thanks a ton for your response. Well glad to know that your Dad was so much supportive so much so that he cooked food for u all when he was out of town and so that u can reheat them and have it preferably. To be very honest, i do not know anything about cooking and so i have to look out for outside healthy foods so that i do not fall prey to any food and water borne diseases as it is monsoons in India. Well, it's tough to survive on outside food. Moreover, there are high cases of dengue/malaria and food borne illnesses going on in India these days. Due to monsoons and unhygenic conditions, it is better to keep safe and eat out at good places. Maybe you can keep a loaf of bread, some butter and use tomato/cucumber to make a sandwich. You could eat this for breakfast at home. It does not involve any cooking, except for cutting. You can buy yogurt/curd and keep in the fridge. If you have friends, probably you can eat at their place for a day or two. Once your mom is back, you can invite the friends for a treat at home to say thank you. I didn't know how to cook either. After wedding is what I really learnt and now able to dish out tasty dishes. Once your mom is back, either learn basics from her or join a cooking class..for me, I could even burn a pan while trying to boil water..so, I know how it is with you!

Hey thanks a ton for your wonderful response. Yes u are absolutely right, i think its high time that i take cooking lessons from my mother once she is back home so that it would help me during emergency situations. Yes bang on correct with the monsoons on our head, there is high chances of prevalence of water and food borne diseases and in case i fall ill then there would be no one to take care of myself. i loved your suggestion of having food at my friends place and then asking them to come home when my mom returns. I will do this for sure. Thank u for the advise. What say?

Cooking is just as easy when you are interested doing it. I suggest you have to learn a basic cooking enough for you to use within yourself and even share to friends and family. When a person know how to cook its a big help when we are spending our life by ourselves.

It is bad that you don't know how to cook anything at all, because there are so many things that are easy to make. Things like pasta only need to be boiled for about 15 minutes and they are ready to eat, so I don't really understand why you don't think that you're able to make it. I have been able to cook things since I was quite young because my parents taught me well, so this means that I would always want to teach my children to cook as well because lessons like that are very important in the future when they go to live on their own.

Oh she did the right thing to lock the kitchen. Some accidents can happen if you don't know how to on the gas and all. I think it is okay to eat outside since you do not have much choice left. But I was afraid of cooking formerly( the same reason as you)but when I tried it and finally enjoyed it I forgot I had such a difficult time with ronating the knob of the cooking station…It seems so easy now. Just try it!You'll enjoy cooking soon!
