Guys, did you know that there are etiquette in riding elevators?
It is actually just like a dice:
If you are riding alone, you should stay in the center.
If two, you should stay in the opposite corner.
If three, the third person should be in the middle.
If four, each of you should be in the corner.
If five, the fifth person should be again in the middle.
And if you are six, you should make two lines opposite with each other...
I think it will help to make the elevator balance and that it will not shake....

I found people mostly do as you said(include me)!
I was envisioning the scene while reading your words and found we always did as you said.Maybe because that's the best way to keep enough space for everyone. We do it unconsciously.Amaing!

Hi Bravewoman,
There are situations when we do those like if we are two...but with like 6...we tend to just stuck up in opposite corners. Maybe we really need to learn about this way. And now that I know this already, I would let my colleagues know about it also.
Have a nice day!

What a nonsense.. if you are alone you stay in the centre.. so why? That at the point someone else is getting in you are in the way? People feel threatened and wait for the next elevator? Great all this etiquettes but it all depends also how big the elevator is if you are able to stay where you say people have to. This besides of the fact you should be able to stand there where you feel most safe. BTW etiquettes for the elevator is one of the lest etiquettes I am waiting for or would ask for. Most people are not even able to say good morning, enjoy your meal, eat with knife and fork or wash their hands after the toilet.

I didn't know that there is an elevator etiquette until now. The reason behind is acceptable so it would be good that everyone should know this. Thanks for this post.

This is news for me. I only know is that when you're with someone in the elevator, you should keep quiet and dont shut the door when someone else is behind you, waiting to get in :) Thanks for the info and thanks for sharing!

I have to say that I never knew that there was proper etiquette for an elevator and I also have to say that this completely didn't go the way that I thought it was going to go. Instead, I thought that the discussion on elevator etiquette was going to be about which way that you should stand when you are on an elevator. You know, like my mother always told me that you should face the front of an elevator when there are strangers on the elevator. The reason that she told me this is because if you are facing the back of the elevator it can be mistaken as staring at people that you don't know.

wow, never knew there was such a thing. we don't have to follow it though, i guess this etiquette allows people to position inside the elevator comfortably and to let them breath better without someone pressing on to them.

Hi Aabuda,
Wow, it's my first time to know about all of these. As I read on, I was amazed and disappointed. I am disappointed because I am not doing it...and most of my colleague are not doing it (they probably don't know about that as well). I am amazed since yeah, it will really balance up the elevator.
Well, now that I know this already, I really need to follow this one.
Happy Mylotting!

The only elevator etiquette I am aware of is the ones stepping out of it have the right of way. Even that, some people are not aware or just simply rude. They would force their way inside an elevator while the ones in them are trying to get out...
And about this positioning while riding elevators... I don't think I'm the only one who is not aware about it. I don't even remember seeing that rule ever apply in any elevators rides I have taken...

That certainly makes sense but why are there not instructions in the elevator to this effect?

I know there are silent rules or etiquette in riding an elevator.
This is the first time I see or heard this Elevator Etiquette of yours and it makes me wonder if this is really true because I find this impractical.

I never heard that since before. Thanks for that information anyway. If I think of it I think you have a point. For the elevator to be in balance, people who will ride should always at the corner. It gives respect also for those who rides next to us because of the space we have leave for them. They will be convenient to ride also.
