A Kindle is easier than a book

For the last 6 months I have been using a Kindle for most of my reading material. It is a very convenient device. I no longer have to go to a bookshop to find a book, now I simply go on the Kindle Store. It takes no time at all, except that one is spoiled for choice and I usually end up getting more books than intended. But that's OK too because I do not have to carry them home, they arrive literally 'in a whisper' and very quickly, it is amazing.
My daughter belongs to a Reading Group, thanks to Kindle I can find the book, download and read along with her. This is wonderful because we live in different countries and mine is not an English speaking one.
I've re-read some classics that I had long forgotten and they came free, which is another advantage. Every week there is a free book to download. At present I am reading 'Cider with Rosie' which I have always wanted to read but never come across.
For ladies a big plus is that it fits into a handbag. So when I go somewhere that I know will mean a long wait I just bring out my 'book' and the time passes very agreeably.

My friend's mum has got a kindle, her children all clubbed together for one big birthday present and apparently she loves it, although I have never seen her with it when I have gone round to see my friend, maybe she is like me only reads when they are alone! Call me old fashioned but I much rather pick up a book and smell the print, yes I do, I love the smell of books, new and old. It's got it's good points I admit, but I'd never want to own one. Besides I have to wear glasses to look at a screen, but when reading a book I don't need them.

I have a soft spot for books too. I have shelves full of books. The thing I like about the kindle though is you can almost always find what you're looking for. Sometimes finding the physical form of the book you're looking for can be a challenge but I find that enjoyable too. I'm like a kid in a candy store at barnes and noble. Plus, while you're searching you find other things you would have never found normally.

I don't have one but my daughter does. She loves it and takes it with her to her doctor's appointments too. She says it's one of the easiest and quickest way to read all the books she loves.
I wouldn't mind getting one but I guess they're costly and I need to many things to put that as a priority. I did not know they didn't speak English in Greece..interesting.

Everyone speaks Greek in Greece but the second language is supposed to be English, they learn it at school and then forget it afterwards. However educated Greeks speak perfect English so I have been able to communicate with them, but mostly professional people like doctors and dentists.
Ask your daughter to let you have her Kindle when she upgrades, young people seem to do a lot of that so you might be lucky.

the idea of it fitting into your purse is partially why i want one but mostly the reason is that my library only offers some books in ebook format and these are books that i would really like to read! i am hoping that my hubby will get me one for Christmas. i am sure there will be lots of sales on ebook readers before and after Christmas.

It must be nice to be able to afford all the new tech stuff. I don't even have a cell phone. I did for three months a couple of years ago. I have dreamed of getting the Kindle but I don't know if it will ever happen. Too much other things like food and kids clothes that come first on the list. Glad you are enjoying yours and sounds like you have found many uses. Every week you get a free download? That'd be nice. I could use one when I am waiting at the doctor's office.

Good day to you 41CombedaleRoad,
Honestly speaking I always dreamed to have this thing. But I have never given a chance to have it. So I am just borrowing my sister's book then making some notes whenever I found interesting topics to fonder. I do love reading but perhaps it is not meant for me to have the kindle.

The are bound to go down in price so I think your patience will eventually be rewarded. It is worth the wait and no doubt they will improve considerably in time.

Yes, I am also a great Kindle fan! Before I used to carry many books in a bag with whenever we traveled, hoping I would get a chance to read them! Thanks to my new Kindle, I now just carry it along in my bag, with many books stored inside! Another advantage is being able to read material in both English & Spanish! The Kindle also includes dictionaries, so when I don't know the meaning of a word (regardless of the language), I can just search the dictionaries I have also downloaded. The latest is that I have now even included my autobiography (Footsteps in the Sands of Time: a life in Peru, Australia, Dominican Rep and Austria) - http://www.amazon.com/dp/B009DFKF5S there and I have plans to include a few more too!

I was given a Kindle for Christmas two years ago, and I have to admit that it is one of the best things that I have ever got. The first thing that is really good about it is the fact that I am able to get hold of any book that I want at the touch of a button and I don't have to go to the shops to get it. I can also get a large number of books for free which can be a really great thing if I happen to be going on holiday. The Kindle also takes up much less space than books, as you can hold thousands of books on the same device so it can be good if your house usually gets cluttered.

Call me old fashioned but I prefer a book,I like having a physical object that I can hold and keep on my shelf.I have read a book on a tablet before now and it just didn't feel the same as reading a book.Especially because I like getting old books from second hand bookshops and its like having an old because I think its like having a link to a past. Some of my favorite books are ones my Nan had as a child which is quite old considering she is gone 80.

I would absolutely LOVE a Kindle, I really would. No doubt 'War and Peace' is free is it? I've always wanted to read that book as it's massive, from what I can gather.
I would definitely re-read Watership Down and all the Tolkien books if I had one.
You're so lucky!

I agree with you. I have my Kindle apps on my iPad for months now and I am so loving it. I have collections of John Grisham, Dan Brown, Tom Clancy among others. It is a bit overwhelming seeing all those books I have in my "library" but since I love reading and can finish any book in one sitting, it doesn't feel too overboard anymore. While I still like to have my actual, physical books, I love the fact that I can carry lots of books in one single gadget.

I don't have a kindle yet but I do have the kindle app on my phone. I can imagine it isn't as good as having a kindle but I have enjoyed using it. I can find older books that I haven't been able to read in years and I can have them in seconds. You can also check out new authors to the writing world before they get really big.
The only thing I really don't like is how no matter what you have to pay quite a bit for some books even if they've been out for years. I just don't like seeing it on sale at amazon or wal-mart for way less. I guess that's the price I pay for convenience.
