Annoying after-cold cough

Ok, so it's not a dry cough, not really, but for the past week that I got over my cold I been having a hard time getting rid of an annoying cough. And I cough due to a tiny bit of annoying mucus in my - well, not sure what tube it is, the tube you cough out of, not the throat were you swallow. So I'm able to cough up the mucus, sometimes I'm able to bring it up to my mouth to spit out but other times it lodges in my throat and I end up swallowing it. It's so annoying. I drink water, I suck on peppermint or cough drops I'm trying to eat healthy, all that good stuff. I looked up on eHow.com but it pretty much said all I'm doing so I guess time will tell? Will it go soon? What are your experience? I've had colds (of course!) the cough usually just went but this is a stubborn half-dry-with-a-teeny-tiny-bit-of-mucus cough that lingers for just over a week.

My grandmother prepared some warm honey with lemon juice to drink in those cases. Maybe you could slowly put some honey in your mouth and let it slide down. The problem with coughs is that after a while your throat hurts. Honey and lemon juice will help.

I actually drink a tea with honey, lemon juice, whiskey, and have freshly-shredded ginger root in it, but that's whne I have a cold, and it's very soothing. But this is like that annoying tiny bit of mucus and I'm coughing it up but then it seems to keep reproducing itself. Kinda embarrassing cuz I was reading a portion for the torah service tonite and had to stop and cough in the mic .... uuuuggghhhhhhh

yup, they say the cough is always the last to go. hang in there, it will leave soon. i think that drinking water helps too as a person who always has stuff in their throat, that is what i do (i am always losing my voice due to phlegm because of my nose, which is perma stuffy is always draining). i find that drinking water helps me the best (i think your idea of sucking on candy helps too) but i found water to be the best.

I blend tea tree oil and lavender oil and use that in a carrier oil, with vitamin E oil to put on my nose when I get a cold and irritate it with tissues. I think the aroma is very soothing and healing. My colds seem to get cut to a third of normal duration if I use this. I do like 4 oz. carrier oil (grapeseed, almond, jojoba, or coconut) 2 oz. of Vit. E oil, and 1 oz each of tea tree and lavender.

I don't like sucking on candy much cuz of the sugar but I will suck on some mints because of the menthol. Water, well you can't get enough water anyway, lol water's exccellent for your body, and I drink big huge glasses of water at a time, I love it, so refreshing. I'll be ordering some cough drops with tea tree oil and menthol in it. I'll also try GG's fisherman's friend mints.

What I usually do is take an expectorant. Something that contains guaifenesin, like Mucinex, but you can get it in other brands. For a home remedy or less "medicine" I buy "Fisherman's Friend" lozenges, which we can only get at Walgreens. They are absolutely nasty, containing licorice and black pepper and menthol among other things, but it sure does work. Pineapple juice works wonders for things like this tickle, and so does candied ginger. Take your pick. They all seem to work for different reasons.

If there still is no sign of improvement, then I suggest making an appointment with a doctor and let that problem be checked before it's too late.

I'm glad I'm not the only one LOL but it's so darn annoying, I hope it's not an infection that'll go into my lungs or something. My body's immune system is kinda down due to the stress I'm going through in my family life, so that's proabably what's happening to me. I hope that's it. Oh dear....

Yep you are doing everything I would do, though I would like to try Gerty's idea of Fishermen's Friend, it sounds interesting. Another option to help, especially if you are bothered at night, is to elevate yourself. I use pillows, but anything that will keep your body from laying flat will do and this helps during the night.

That's a good idea - it's for the mucus issue, right? It's like a tiny bit of mucus lodged and reproducing (so it seems)in my throat but it's so stubborn. I can basically go off every day into a mini-cough-a-thon. Oh well, ehow.com says if it continues for 8 weeks i'll have to go to my dr, I just hope this is just a temperary thing.

All I know is, I cough less and the coughing I do while elevated is productive, it doesn't get stuck in my throat. When you lay down on your back, even with a pillow, anything trying to get up has gravity against it..

And I am doing that as of the moment. And it can help me relieve my sore throat as well. I've had my lozenges though it helped me but I think water would be the best way to relieve it. I am trying to get away from colds since I am afraid that it will worsen my voice. I don't want to end up going to work with no voice at all. That would probably be a big problem. Welcome to mylot!

Maybe you are disturbed by a phlegm which is very annoying if you have a dry cough. Just few months ago I experience the same and I really disturbed it. I drink some kind of medicine which is common in our country and also a food supplement that can add my immune system more strong.

I hate coughing. It is not just bothersome but embarrassing. I also hate the fact that it usually attacks at night so it disrupts my sleep. But I discovered that honey and garlic extract solution is very effective. I've already forgotten about all other cough syrup in favor of this natural solution. The way to do this is found here if you care to know http://expertscolumn.com/content/most-effective-cough-remedy. I've also made it a habit to have daily early morning sun exposure which has been helpful to me as well.

A pleasant day to you Masihi, Based on what I have experienced, cough do come after a period or days of having a colds. That is why some Doctors do prescribed an antibiotics to their patients in order to cure both. Aside from that, if the cold lasted for so many days, our lungs will really be affected so the infection might get transform into a cough. In this regard, some Doctors changes some medicines being drink by the patient and prescribed another one which is the antibiotic.

Avoid dusty places if your going somewhere. What always worked for me is drinking plenty of water and having enough rest. That should go away after a week.

I really hope you are OK now. You should take some vitamins and double that up...like 1000 vitamins for three consecutive days. I think it would be a great help. And yeah, increase your fluid intake as well just to increase your body tolerance. Anyways, I have dry cough today. And despite that, I don't cough a lot similar before. Though my throat was affected a lot since its sore but I did bought a gargle to help me up. Plus the fact that I lost my voice as well...its really strange. I just hope that I would be OK by tomorrow...well, my voice will be back to normal again. I don't want to sound strange either. Happy Mylotting!
