I have trouble trying to look for the proper category there are more posts. Unfortunately, this topic is unlikely to be read. I understand that most people go through the challenges of losing weight. Since a kid, I was really thin. My mom used to joke about it telling me that we lacked money and lets me prepare my own milk. Of course that was a joke and I am hoping so.
Currently I am on my mid 20's with 5" height. Before I used to weigh only 80lbs. BTW, I am also not a veggie eater and/or selected veggies only. My taste bud for this just can't tolerate it. But for this year I was now able to gain an additional 18lbs or roughly 43kgs. I haven't weighed again but this is pretty much of an achievement. I was able to cut my hair shorter since this gain weight made my face more round.

Well, I wish i could just give you about 10 pounds of my weight! haha.
But, whenever you're planning on trying to GAIN a few pounds, you have to do it the correct, healthy way (much like losing weight). You can not just eat a bunch of junk food all day, and sit around watching tv, to try and gain weight. It may or may not work, but you will certainly make yourself sick to your stomach (and might even cause more health issues down the road).
One food that is healthy in weight gain is nuts and seeds. They are high in callories and fatty acids. And they are also high in protein. So try eating more almonds, walnuts, peanuts, or sunflower seeds.
Something else you can eat is whole grain bagels. They are a good for getting carbohydrates, which will give you energy to keep you going through out the day. Lightly toast and dip them into a healthy oil and eat as is, or choose a light cream cheese or mashed avocado (which is also good for gaining healthy weight) as a healthy spread.
Drink lots of freshly squeezed fruit and vegetable juices made right in your own kitchen. They contain many essential vitamins and minerals which are essential to your body. Substitute these for your sodas and even for some of your water, as they contain many healthy calories which water does not. **But you should still drink some water each day to stay hydrated!**
Good luck!

You could try the V8 drinks to try and get veggie's into your diet, since they are quite important. I am a really picky eater, and even I liked the V8 drinks, so that says something! Haha V8 is a fruit and vegetable juice, but it def. tastes more like a fruit juice.

Yeah. I am actually taking complete & good nutrition via supplements since I am not a veggie eater. It's a bit tough but I can say that among our family members, I've never got admitted in a hospital. The worst illness I've gotten so far is UTI. I gained weight so easily because the supplement drink that I take every breakfast is made of soy protein. I have been trying to stay away from fastfood chains as well because of that UTI. Our office is near fastfood restaurants so you could guess why.

I have the same problem, I need to gain a lot of weight because I lost too much weight. I had broken jaw last July and couldnt eat solid food for 2.5months, I lost my weight and became underweight. I was skinny before the broken jaw accident then I could not eat solid food and only drinks liquid/milk for 10 weeks now my BMI is only 15.6. Im trying to gain more kg to get back to my ideal weight. It is not an easy task to do, I have so many activities and it seems like the food that I ate is burned to be energy for my activities. I cant reduce my activities but I also need gaining more weight.

Thank you mhypie03, this discussion has helped me to know more about strategy in gaining weight. Being underweight is not nice, my clothes is too big and I do look like a walking stick. You are right, it will take time to get back to my previous shape.

It's a sign that your lifestyles improve. Maybe you are richer than now compared before when you are still a child.
Anyway, no worries about your weight at the moment. It's tolerable on your age correspond to your height.
I don't like to see a girl with a very thin body built.

The only thing that you have to do to gain weight is to make sure that you eat more food. If you're finding that you're not gaining weight with the amount of food that you are eating then literally the only thing that will solve this problem is by eating more food. You should weigh yourself once each week and make sure that you are gradually increasing your portion sizes as you will find that this means that is isn't a shock to the system and you would almost certainly be able to gain the weight that you need to.

No I don't think so. My boyfriend also has this kind of problems and I know other people who also eats more yet shares the same problem. He eats a lot but weight does not change that much. I believe there are medical reasons behind this like metabolism etc. When the I have enough time I will explain some of those in another topic. Thanks anyways for your inputs.

its good to hear that i am not the only person here who's having trouble gaining weight.
ive been this thin (like 50 kgs) since i was a kid. i know to myself that one reason was because i was born poor and we didnt have enough money to buy foods.
anyway, im already 23. i already tried a lot things but only one product worked. my friend just told me about it and since i was so desperate, i tried it. they called it usana nutrimeal. it is in a shake form that you can drink after meal. i gained a lot of kgs using this great product. now i am 60 kgs and happy.

Honey, I totally realize this is a problem for you. But be thankful that you have to gain weight, and not lose weight. People who have to lose weight are often made fun of and treated poorly. I hope whatever happens, you are in good health and happy.

Well since you wanted to put on weight it sounds like you have achieved that. Congrats! I think at 5 feet tall 80 lbs would have been extrememly skinny but at 98 lbs thats probably just about perfect. I am 5'4 and until I went on the depo shot a few years ago I always weighed 103 lbs. I weigh about 115 right now.

You are probably right. my brother is so skinny that no food or remedy works. these all foods full of callory works only when you have a good digestion power. So try to find out very good apetiser. If hunger is not there all good foods are wasted. All have advised on healthy foods but no one pointed out this.. Please think and respond.

I have learned that the basics of nutrition is to cleanse, absorb & regenerate. If your brother is unable to gain some weight despite being a heavy eater then you are right. Something is wrong with his digestive system. The thing is since food nowadays are quite unhealthy, we tend to consume it from time to time causing our villi to get clogged. These villi are tiny protrusions in our intestine responsible for our body's absorption of nutrition. So we need to cleanse first and with that we will be able to absorb the nutrients our body needs helping our cells to regenerate into healthier ones making our immune system strong enough to fight back bad elements.

There is a lot of talk all the time about people who weight too much, so sometimes I tend to forget that there are people out there who have a bit of a challenge gaining weight.
Good for you that you are gaining weight and that you look fuller in your face, keep up the good work

I admit, it is faster for me to gain weight than to lose weight. It's good that you gain some pounds, for we also need some of those. There are advantages and disadvantages of gaining weight, but if it is excessive it can be detrimental to our health. I'm, for one, doing my best to lose some weight after my surgery, for I need to maintain a specified weight. Good luck to you and thanks

Hi,
Don't worry about it so much. When I was in my twenties, I was about 44kgs, I was 156cm. But when I had a baby, I gained weight easily as I always felt hungry and I ate more. After the birth of my baby, I was 60kgs. Now my daughter is 7 years old, I am 52kgs. So you will gain your weight in several years. Enjoy yourself.
