how to teach American Chinese?

i have an american friend. even though he has been in China for almost six years, he do not speak in chinese well. it's really not convenient to life in china. he encountered many problems beacuse of the difficulty to understand chinese. and all he can speak in chinese is really little. there may be many difficulty in study chinese, especially about the pronunciation. do you have any good ideas?

i think learning would be effective through immersion. try to talk more often to him in chinese, then eventually he'll pick-up a few words each time. but he should be enthusiastic and determined to learn. it would be useless if he is not interested.

thanks for your answer.it's difficult for him to say chinese, also it's not that easy for any foreigner ,which is very important to him however,for he has a job for a couple of years in China. i don't know how he think about chinese,but he really want to study

Chinese language is really difficult, it takes months before you can talk fluently. You may suggest to your friend to have an audio files in english to chinese language.

is it not the same as how the language is being taught everywhere else in the world? for me though the best way to know and to learn a language, not only chinese but all - is to practice speaking it.

For meeting such situation i would definitely say that tell your friend to start learn something.If you can teach your friend to learn Chinese and that would be a good idea.Find some professional book and i suppose that maybe help.Nice to spread our culture.

He is living in china for almost six years and not even learn any Chinese word? Well that's a slow learner. One of the best way is to watch any Chinese movies with English subtitles. :)
