It's already 2:00 pm and I have just finished my lunch. No, it's not that I spent 2 hours on my lunch break. But it's just that there's somebody who is very insensitive and not giving much care about lunch break.
We were having this Oracle System project, and we had just finished our user's testing last week. But Accounting department have not yet finished since they still have some pending issues on importation payment. They said they cannot view the items I received in the test last week.
So at 10:45am this morning, our Accounting department head requested me to join them in the system testing. They asked me to encode again the importation receipts. So I agreed just to help them do the test and so we can raise the issues while the consultants are still here.
When I was done with my part, I informed them that they can already start their test and try if they can already view my receipts and link them to their payment process. The consultant was with also there and assisted them. I didn't leave them so I can also get some knowledge on where the process leads to.
When it was already 12:00noon, I tried to ask permission if I can leave ahead since I am not needed in their issues anymore. Because the issues that they were discussing were already about accounting entries. The head did not permitted me but requested me to stay a little more because they might need me to encode again. So I stayed...
They were still discussing about their issues, where I cannot anymore understand some of them. I don't know if it is because I am not interested because I am not involved or because I am already very hungry... Well I guess it's the latter. I already started getting a headache and my tummy kept on rumbling. I realized I only have taken coffee for breakfast.
I gave a sign language if I can already take my lunch. But then again he replied by raising his hand to say "wait"... Until it ended up past 1pm...
If ever I will get ulcers because of that incident, will the company be liable for my health?

nope. And I never saw some signs that he will...
I was wondering what happened with my computer when I was typing this discussion. I was not yet done reviewing it but it suddenly posted, and my computer restarted... creepy...
I was yet supposed to add some ending lines. and to add also that they ended up without me doing anything. I just wasted my time...

oh i have had a work experience like that where i am unable to eat on time because of the work i have had. this boss never really cared much about us, we were sort of given an order or a reminder not to eat all at the same time even!!! hehe
i think we are not able to
do this and sue the company because after all they would still tell us that eating on time, is beyond the control of the company and they can have many arguments with that too...

we also have this policy of strictly adhering to the break time. if we eat earlier they will try to warn or even reprimand us of doing so. but they gave us a choice to eat a little early at quarter to 12... but you should also be back to work quarter to 1pm. they are really very strict at it.
we also have experienced this last week. but it was really an official activity for me, because I was really involved in the testing. but we only ended up at 12:30... and we are asked to come back at 1:30. at least it was compensated.
but with this morning's activity, since it was not my schedule to be involved in that, I have no choice but really to come back to my table and work after eating my very late lunch. because I still need to finish the documentations which I was supposed to finish before lunch time. Good that our customs broker is kind enough to wait for me until I printed out the documents.

Not eating is not what causes ulcers....it is what is eating at you! If you dont' give your stomach acids something to eat on..like they do food which is how food is digested...then the acids start eating on your stomach lining...or wherever the acids are most active. So just eating lunch late one day isn't going to give you any problems. You can't get an ulcer (and it takes a couple months of constant acid activation to "create" an ulcer) just from a late lunch.
And no, the company can't be made liable for such. There are to many other things that contribute to an ulcer...so it is a lot of alot of things..not just a late lunch at work.

Well sometimes we our lunch suffered due to our work.
I also experienced it once in while especially if there are too many things to do here at work that result to skipping lunch or break time.
I guess it is sometimes part of work especially if it was unexpected.

I do understand that sometimes it's really part of our job especially if it is scheduled and if it is an official activity... I mean, this morning's activity was official - for the accounting dept but not me... I do not even know that I need to be on that activity since I already have done the test last week. They were also there and we (receivers from my department) kept them updated of every transaction that we successfully encoded. But I don't know if they even gave a little attention to what we have done. And I am not even sure if they informed my boss that they pulled me out to help them this morning. And they said that it will not take much of my time because I am only going to encode the receipts so they can proceed with the payment process. But it did took much of my time and even wasted it...

Oh. I feel for you. My gosh, they should've been more sensitive specially that it's kinda obvious that 12pm supposed to be a lunch break. I think they won't be liable for any health issues that (hopefully you won't be having) you'll be getting because of work. Next time, it's much better to feed yourself first before anything else. Health is much important than work because we can't work if we're sick. Reason that out to that guy and leave him speechless. have a healthy life.

yeah... and to think I was not involved in their discussion anymore. and another thing was, it was not even in my schedule to do that. They simply pulled me out from my station and requested me to encode something. I did not even know if they asked permission from my boss.
the headache has not yet gone away...

I always eat late for about 2 years while I was working in a very busy 5 star hotel in Saudi Arabia. Better I can eat different kind of fruits while on duty so my health still OKay until now.
If I work here in the Philippines I won't let others to make my lunch late even Bosses are their watching me.

Oh, my. I hope you won't have ulcer. I have and it isn't good. I sometimes feel the symptoms and I hate it. If I could only turn back time, I haven't skipped my meals when I was still in university. I guess I will have it forever. I hope they'll be considerate of you and other employees. No matter how important that meeting was, your health was at stake. I hope you still enjoyed your lunch. Happy mylotting.

How insensitive that head of yours is. He could have ordered lunch for everybody, knowing that they cannot just leave but have working lunch instead.
Here in our company, when it's nearly lunch and we weren't done yet, i would head count those who participated and ask permission from my boss to order lunch. That way, everybody can have a working lunch.

Awww 11am my stomach complains already :S even if I had breakfast or coffee at breaktime,my stomach knows when it's lunchtime!
But true, some aren't sensitive enough. Whenever we have immediate jobs that hits lunch/meryenda/dinner time, our office or any of our senior always initiates food preparation. No one can work right if he/she's starving :/
