Ear piercing at what age?

No one should have anything done to their body without their consent. When a girl is old enough to decide, then she should or should not get her ears pierced. I am against altering a child's body without their informed consent. So much so that neither of my boys is circumcised. They are adults now and can get it done if they want. At least they have a choice. I feel the same way about piercing a child's ears.

I have seen very small babies having their ears peirced. I think the earlier the better. Babies look very cute and sweet with their ears pierced. I haven't heard anything negative about doing this early either.

i think that ear piercings should take place when the child is aware of how to take care of her ears. when both of my daughters turned 13, their uncle paid for them to get their ears pierced. it was a special day that their uncle and each girl could share together. babies look cute with pierced ears but it is just one more thing the parent has to worry about.

In India generally kids both girls and boys in some communities get their ears pierced before they are 6 months. It is said to be good for releasing the pressure in the ears and the skin is usually so thin that the kid also does not feel much. Most of the jewellery stores down south of India provide a person in the shop who can do the ear piercing for the kids. Cheers! Ram

Hi Shavkat, here in India in most communities a girl baby's ear is pierced when the child is very young about 6 months or so, it is a custom.But I feel that it is far too young and since the baby doesn't know sometimes they tend to touch the ears and the earrings and get hurt so it should be done a little later, say when they are 3 or 4 years old..

it all depends i would say around 15 years of age it would look stylish and trendy

I have friends who pierce their babies ears at one month and I suppose some do it a soon a they are born. They probably do it so the infant forgets the pain and confuses it with strangeness, hunger, or wet. If one waits until they are much older and able to distinguish then fear sets in, and they are afraid of the anticipation rather then the actual piercing.

Where I live, the youngest that a baby can be when they are able to get their ears pierced is two months old. The reason for that is that they require that a baby have their first set of vaccinations before they are able to be pierced. My daughter was two months old when I got her ears pierced. However, I don't actually think that there is a right or wrong age to have the ears pierced. I was six when I had mine done for the first time, one of my nieces was four and my other two nieces don't have theirs pierced at all yet.

I really do not have any idea how young should a girl have her ears pierced, but here in our country, kids as early as two years old do wear earring already. Although I had my ears pierced at 7 years old. Boy was I really screaming inside the office of my mom! They gave me one apple every after my ear was pierced. My sister got her ears pierced as soon as my mom gave birth to her. So, she was already wearing earrings when visitors came to see her at the hospital nursery.

i don't remember when but my mother told me ,at the age of 3 for me, i don't even know that.

I see that some kids have their ears pierced at 3 or so but am not sure I would do that unless the child wanted to get it done. I'm afraid of the bullies these days in schools and such, it is more dangerous for them to get pulled out now more than ever and risk an injury. I'm over protective I suppose.

I do notice that most girls have their ears pierced when they are still young. Most parents prefer their girl child to be pierced at a young age.

aww :D i saw a lot of parents having it done even when kids are still infants but it's not advisable because most of the time they sleep so when they move a lot their piercing my be infected or won't easily heal.. So parents have it done when are are older. I had mine when I was 7!=D

my first piercing was at age 10, i think. but i didn't keep it clean. it was redone when i was 13. i had my daughter done when she was 6 months old. she's 18 yrs now and still has her piercing. i guess it's up to the individual. my daughter even told me that she was glad that her ears were already pierced when other girls didn't.

For me personally I think the right age is when they're old enough to want it done and can make the decision for themselves. I have no problem seeing little girls with their ears pierced, I think it's adorable, but I think they should be able to decide whether or not the want holes poked in their little ears.
