On poetry. Have you written one?

Hello my fellow Mylotters!
When I was a child, I've written a poetry about friendship and it felt alright at that time. I'd like to know if the poem is still good enough for me, but the problem is I forgot the exact words of that poem. Sometimes things that look good to us as a child may not look good or feels good to us as adults. That was the first and last poem I've written and haven't written any since.
How about you?Do you write poems? Do any of your family members know that you write? Mine don't. It was a secret long dead in my childhood dreams and still haven't any plans on resurrecting it.

Writing use to be one of my passions in life. I was also fortunate to be a member of our school publication when I was in elementary in college. And in college, the poem that I wrote was published. It felt so good to see the poem that you wrote in a literary folio. And I receive great feedbacks from my friends when they read the poem that I wrote.
And right now, I'm still active in writing articles. I contribute articles in a bulletin of the catholic community where I am active right now. And so far, I have written three poems that are already published there. Felt so good to share the gift that I have and to use it to glorify God

I have written children's poetry. I wrote maybe 6-7 quite a few years ago and put them in a folder which I have misplaced. I can only remember parts of some of them. But a few friends I had back then read them and said they were good. My mother liked writing poetry. I wrote a few other poems, too. Maybe 35-40 years ago. I was very depressed then but it seemed to help me write. Those poems were unhappy and strange. I've moved a lot since then and those poems have been lost. I seem to have lost my touch for poetry writing. Or maybe I'm not trying hard enough.

I know some people who write poetry and memorize it. I wasn't that type so my childhood poem was lost forever. That's good if you've moved on and those unhappy thoughts better not come back again. Maybe next time you can write about happiness, your talent may not have been lost after all. Thanks for sharing!

emerillus-great advice!
deazil-Maybe you haven't lost your 'touch' for poetry writing, maybe it's that as we grow older we seem to lose that ability to remember our dreams. Sounds like you may have had a passion for writing. I would suggest you start out with a journal...you never know.
The biggest thing is don't rush it. Start with just a few words, sentences and go from there. It will come and when it does all the emotions and experiences from the past 35-40 years will come flooding out! You will be amazed at what you will be able to go back and read...there will be memories of experiences that you haven't thought of in a long time!
I hope you start soon and I wish you nothing but luck and love!

I wrote poems when I was in High School. It was all about the pain I felt after losing my first love. I think I made probably 20- wrote one poem a day. I found out that I did had the knack for it. I took it from my dad who used to make poems too when he was younger. He even showed me his compilation as well as the poem he did for me when I was born.

Wow..that's good! To be able to write poetry one has to have the talent. Has anyone read your poems? What are their comments?

Oh, I felt that way about my childhood poem, too because I was shy. It's something like a diary wherein your innermost feelings and desires are poured out. Have I changed my perspective regarding that matter now that I'm grown-up? I can't answer that question since I still haven't written a poem again.

I never had anyone read them. I felt they personal. I didn't feel like sharing it to anyone. And during those times, I wasn't even allowed to have a boyfriend.

Hi, I have already written a poem when I was in third year highschool. We're required to do so I have wrote one but it is not really in my interest. I've wrote a poem about my mom. I don't remember the whole poem but I still remember the first few lines...
When I was young
So lovely and so sweet
I used to hug my mother
And kiss her to her cheek
She'll say the words
So tender to my ears
And sing her song
For me to get sleep...
I don't remember what's next
No one in my family knew about that poem. My mom is not hands on with regards to my studies as I am doing perfectly fine that time. But I think that it would be nice if I had shown her that poem. It was also the only poem I wrote in my life so far.
I suggest that you go for your dream especially if you have the time to things like this.

I wish you can remember the rest of that poem and give it to your mom. How very sweet to think of a child making a poem for her/his mom. It's simply heart-touching! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks emerillus, almost two decades have passed so I don't know if I could still remember the next lines of my poem. My Communication Speech teacher told us to write a poem about something or someone that is close to our heart or inspires us so I chose my mom. I hope you could also share us your poems someday. Have nice evening!

I have written many poems when I was in college but after those years, I cannot make one anymore. Maybe those were the days when I get to see lots of things happening that's so wonderful to write. I mostly write about love. And my other classmates would ask me to make one for them. So they will tell me their story then I will put it into a poem. I still have them in a small notebook. I can't find it now though.

What a pity you can't find your notebook anymore. I really like poems about love. I bet your poems are so interesting and wonderful because you have a lot of fans in college. Cheers!

I have only written poems back in my school and university days. I can't even remember when was the last time I did write one. Well, recently, I've been amused by poem like pieces being thrown impromptu here in our country. It is called Fliptop battles where two parties tried to create poem like and rhythmic pieces to throw at the other one. They are quite amusing.

Yeah, I like to hear Fliptop being done, too! I can't help but be amused and laugh sometimes. It's like Balagtasan, only they're like scorning each other and calling names. Haha! i could never do that one, though, I'd prefer writing it.

Yeah, it takes a lot of skill to do impromptu speeches with rhythmic lines on them. They are the rappers who really used to twisting their tongues with their rhythmic verses. I'd rather be writing it too than be in debacle when the verses are coming up.

Writing poetry is my way of expressing emotions and inner thoughts.
When I am sad or happy I can express it better through writing and composing poems is my outlet.
I want to write my emotions and read my poems to remember the feelings.

Uhmn, well the only thing I can remember and feel after reading my old poems is,
I understand and realized how sentimental fool I am

I agree that writing is the best outlet for our emotions. After you have written your heart out and read what you have written afterwards do you not laugh or smile a bit about it? Have you experienced that? I've read a story about a girl who wrote all her anger and resentment and then became ashamed about it after she reread it because what she has written is childish and unjust.

Yes, I have plans of resurrecting my old passion
Poetry is a way of expression of our throughts. I hope I can find time to make things back again. I still remember the first time I wrote a poem, that is when I met my first girlfriend. I completed it in 15 minutes, a 5 stanza, I think.
I even wrote a screen play and collected some articles from famous directors and playwriters.
I hope I can write again soon.
Thanks

Sounds like the passion is still there...so go for it! You have nothing to lose and a lot to gain!
You never know...maybe you can publish one day!
Here's wishing you many words in the future!

Thanks a ton for sharing this discussion. Well glad to know that u love writing poems and i think that is a very good habit that u have developed in your life. In fact i too used to write so many poems during my earlier days but could not continue my passion to write poems as i was always running short of time but whenever i used to get leisure time i never wasted a single moment to pen down my emotions in the form of poems.
What say?

Wow! So, have you saved any of your poems? Has your family read any of your poems? Or do you care to share it with them? When I was a kid I never wanted to let my family read my poem because I was shy and don't want to hear any sarcastic remarks or criticisms.

I've searched through your blog and found your poem. A poem, which really makes sense. I like it, it teaches us to be contented with what with have. Keep on writing good poems like that. Someday when I find an inspiration I'll be able to write a poem again. Thanks for sharing!

emerillus-
I know exactly how you feel. Growing up I wrote poetry...alot! I was an 'emotions/emotional' writer; in otherwords, I wrote when something happened in my life and how I felt at that moment.
When I look back on some of them now I giggle a little. I see when I thought I was on top of the world, or when I experienced my first heartbreak (4th grade!), or when I was very angry at something/someone.
Writing is a good thing. It eases the mind, sometimes gives you peace, but most of all it lets you 'vent'. Whether it's the disappointment of a friend, the heartbreak of a lover, the excitement or prospect of what's ahead, or just daily life, I think it gives us all that place to go, where no one else hides, where you can express whatever, however you feel and there is no judgement, no retribution.
So, I guess what I'm saying is write. Put it on paper so you can go back and have that moment, that moment where you remember what it was like to be a child and experience things in life through a child's eyes; or those milestones that made a 'mark' in your life.
As for sharing? Well I think that's up to each individual. Some are for sharing while others are just for your eyes, ears, and heart.

Thanks for your insights. I may write again sometime soon, and maybe I can write about my son, which is my inspiration. I know, I have an idea. I'll read it to him when he grows up!

Now that's an idea! See, there's your inspiration! And he would love to know his dad wrote something just for him! Good luck and I hope you will share with us when you've written it!

A shame indeed! Maybe you should consider writing poetry again soon, maybe you have a knack for it. Actually, poems are meant to sound weird, too, not just all rhymes, don't you think so?
