Are you an item collector?

toy collector - The passion to collect.

I'm fond of collecting stamps and key chains during my younger years. As I grow older, the passion changed for just collecting novels or pocket books. I never had think of collecting toys, but some people do. In terms of collectible things, some people squander their money for expensive collections. For instance, luxurious cars, limited editions of toys, antiques, etcetera. We may not take this against those people; they just satisfy their inner passion. Some marginalized people cannot afford this; instead they tend to prioritize their needs based on Maslow's Hierarchy that is the basic needs. In short, the hard money is too difficult to spend out of their savings account. For the sake of generosity, “Are you willing to donate some figure values to unfortunate people, instead of availing the tangible things to flourish your expensive passion?"

I remember, when I was in school I had the habit of collecting different types of stamps. That time we used to get stamps from school as a part of collection money for donation. I pasted those stamps in a used copy and kept for long time. Like you said, that habit changed over the years. Now I have the habit of the collecting magazine and books. Whatever I purchased, whether I read it completely or not, I keep those on safely. But I never buy books or magazine for collection. Just collect those I bought for reading.

Prashu, I have a big box made by aluminium, am keeping my books inside, which helps me to avoid dust in it. There is book's shelf available, I plan to buy one, but not enough space in my home to keep the shelf.

That's a good collection you have. You might as well have a mini library.

Well, considering I really don't spend any money on my collection of business cards. I started a collection of business cards (seriously) when I went on the truck with my husband for 6 months. I, now even have friends and family picking up business cards for me. It's an inexpensive past time for me!

I used to collect unique unicorn items. My grandmother used to collect match books and had an entire big bowl full of them. I would love to have a collection of antiques books and furniture and such. But when you are more inclined to buy groceries than such things you won't have many around. It is all in the priorities and what choices a person makes.

I do too! And the items were so much better made. Interesting how they were made also. With care where today they are mass produced.

I would be willing to do that.. Material things are not worth the lives of other human beings... My collections that I have had over the years have gone down to just about noting to take care of other more important things at hand.. I can always collect again when I have the extra money..

its very difficult to squander the hard earned money, i would like to collect some books but not the expensive ones. Some people spend the money earned by their parents without thinking a second. But when they start earning ,they think a lot even to buy a pen or pencil.

All our package tours put us in great hotels and every day they used to replenish shampoo and conditioners. I never used that stuff but brought them back with me, using the soap that I carried from here. I now have a huge collection of empty shampoo and conditioner bottles gathered over a period of time! There are a few other items too that I hoard!

I can not say anything, but to agree on this. I do have the same act of collecting shampoos, soap, etc. from hotels. It reminds me of what places I've been to. Thanks for sharing

I collect banks , plastic ones or medal, old or new or used, it helps me to save money in them (small coins) that adds up as well.. then at holidays I empty them and helps with the kids gifts etc. I use to collect other stuff but never stuck with it. I never pay alot for any, mainly 10 cents to dollar at yard sales and things like that. I clean them up and go from there...

I believe it depends on your philosophy in life and your personal perception of "generosity". Before I used to collect anime card which I can hardly remember how much it costs. Now they're all gone since 2009 when we were severely flooded. I still have very few collectibles of Japanese items Monokuro-boo which is no longer sold in the Philippine market. I also love buying shoes and bags (which I think is common among women) even though I am unable to use them all so often. Going back into giving to the less fortunate, we have given most of our old clothes and other things to someone already. Bottom line is I can still do both. Every human needs to satisfy their need for some material thing but in good moderation. After all these things won't be here in the first place if one way or another it's needed to make us feel better. So it's also a good practice to allot portions of your money for the things that you want and something for a good cause. That way it won't hurt your pocket as well.

It depends on how you perceive the word generosity. It is a selfless act for not thinking the second thoughts of sharing to less fortunate people. Thanks

I used to collect stationeries and postage stamps when I was in grade school. Then next thing I remembered collecting were these yellow bear figurines with patches on them. I was in my 20s then, and I displayed those figurines on top of my display desk at work. I don't collect ANYTHING anymore, especially now that I am busy taking care of my daughter who is now an active toddler. But who knows...she is now going to attend kindergarten school this second semester...and I might just be the one to continue her stuffed toy dog collection.

i think i cannot be qualified as a "item" collector because what i collect is not an item.. its a file.. a movie that recorded and uploaded online to download for free.. i love watching movie but i think its a waste to buy the DVD because i will only watch it once and the DVD will be a waste in my room.. i know this isn't good because this is like a piracy too.. but i keep doing that until now and its already become a daily habit :)

I collect and have collected so much stuff over the years started off as just cuddley toys, then moved to beanie babies exclusively and pokemon cards or anything pokemon related, pogs, books and anything cute really. Now I collect cool and cute looking unique clothes, Japanese animation and manga and geeky themed things on trend in general just for the purpose of selling on when I am finished with them. Ebay can become a really scary place for such things when you become in possession of a credit or debit card and pay pal lol. I have really collected so much stuff over the last decade or so with the intentions of doing them up but there are only so many hours in the day.

I also collect stamps and first day editions. I use to collect baseball, football, and basketball card but now that hobby is done. Some people say that collecting these things is only for children. Yeah, for the most part it is, but there is still some money to be made with it. I collect coins from all over the world and also paper money...
