Can you imagine not being able to store your grocery in the refrigerator ? having to hunt for food daily ? You will not be able to travel too far away from home and stay in touch with the people you love . A lot of people would still being treated unfair and no ways to make it public . How do you imagine life would be ?

Although I have experienced what it is to be without electricity, but now, I can't live without it. First, it will be total darkness, it is very difficult for us to do something without it. We won't be in mylot without electricity.

I think, it is fine if you are open to possibilities. In fact, I tried that in a developing country. You just need to have initiatives to survive.

I also think that electricity has played a great role in everyone's life and it is hard to think life without electricity.

I agree with you maybe some of us can survive but I would not be able to survive , maybe if I was a guy and can hunt for myself . If we didnt have electricity it seems hard to know if woman would be where we are today are would we be like those without freedom .

well, if you think back to the 1800s here in North America, you didn't have to hunt for food every day and they did have stores and yes, they did travel to see relatives (either by horse and buggy or by sleigh). i would love to go back to that time. i think it would be a lot more simpler.

people depended on one another and helped one another and were more innocent than we are now. of course, i wouldn't wish back the bad times like slavery or anything like that though.

It would be great if we could go back to that time but I wouldn't want to live there lol . The part you mention about a lot more people being helpful to one another and it was innocent is totally true . I would not wish back the bad times like the world just using the army to force people to do what they want , there was little freedom at that time . Also I would not want to not be able to vote , wear pats and have any career as a woman . Thats is why I love this time and appreciate all what those people have done . I think because of electricity the move for gender equality and a lot of other movement were able to reach a lot more people .

NO doubt that you made some good points , that show we can adjust back to the old times if we have to in order to survive .

I honestly can't imagine what it would be like to live in a situation like that because of the fact that I've always had electricity and creature comforts throughout my life. I mean I have been through some storms in my life that have left us without electricity for several days and it was difficult to get through but we could do it. Besides that, we weren't in total darkness because we did have an inverter in the car that we were able to use one lamp and the television to be powered off of it.

It is hard to imagine , nothing more that camp fire every night for entertainment . Knowing all we know now , make it hard to picture a world with no electricity . The universe would still be a ministry for us .

I know it would really be difficult but I don't see it as a hindrance to happiness. Because many people still enjoyed their lives in this world even though electricity was not discovered and utilized yet. However, there is no doubt that electricity helped us a lot, it somehow made life more convenient and at the same time complicated. I remember watching a documentary about a small village in my country that does not have electric supply. The lives of the villagers are very simple, when the night comes, they all rely on to primitive or other conventional light source (candles, lamps, etc.).

It would be hard for me , I could not survive . As a woman I wouldn't be able to hunt for food so Ill be like the woman back then having to depend on my brothers and father until they give me away to a man and I couldn't do anything . Yes there are some tribes still living without electricity and their daily labor look so hard but they seem happy. I dont have such village in my country but I would like to visit one . I would be excited to see how they live but I know I would not be able to live like that .

You would have to adapt. They have generators that use gas that can power electricity. My husband and I have used one of those when we were camping and they didn't have any electric camping spaces left. As for food went, you just have to buy what you could use for each day and there are gas stoves, propane stoves or just even use a bar-b-que. Now days they have food that you can eat out of a can that you don't have to heat up (although it's better if you heat it up.) For lights you can use candles or oil lamps. People did it before the invention of electricity. I'm sure it wasn't easy, but it can be done!

I also have a generator since we are always having hurricane its a good thing to keep around . But if we dindt discover electricity do you think they would have invented generator ? maybe I dont know ! Well maybe we would invent gas stove not sure we would though . The problem is how would we get the gas without all those heavy equipment that they used to drill for oil . Would we have been able to power those equipment without electricity ? Yes life wouldn't be easy but who can survive will survive . Have a good day and a bless week

In our places there are power cuts and some places have around 14 hours of power cut a day. I think most probably there should be some alternative to save energy and the resources. I think some places there are no power cuts and there are electricity throughout the day.

It would be good if we could used solar energy to do everything . I used solar water heater , wish I could afford to used it to power a complete house .

I think that this is something that is interesting to consider, because of the fact that the generation before us will have not had electricity as readily available as we are. It is strange to think about all of the things that we need electricity for, for example our phones and even our fridges. Back when there wasn't any, people would have had to buy food fresh every day, and there is no way that they would have been able to do what we do and stock up on enough food to last them for a full week or sometimes even longer.

Yes imagine planning a meeting and cant contact the person over the phone having to send letter weeks before and just hope they do get it in time . You may ave to go meet that person without confirmation that they understand where to go . I dont know how people had done it in the past because knowing what we know now , would make it hard for us to live without such essential part of our lifestyle.

Hi silverfox I would definitely love that primitive life sans electricity. Of course, there will be no internet, no refrigerators etc but definitely there will be more peace in life. More time between the family, more time for friends, more love and more "Life". btw, I have a lighter approach too - if there was no electricity, maybe we all would be using the solar and lunar sources or even wind energy to get our things done (but of course they all would someway get converted to the electric energy)
• United States
29 Oct 12
You would love the primitive life lol you could visit some tribe and get a taste of it . I dont think there would be more peace reason I say that is because based on history there were little peace are justice for the poor . It was legal to rape and they kill without paying for it , there was gladiators and slavery . I cant see the peace , I only see barbarian with jungle justice . More time for friends maybe if you are rich and not a pleasant that have to work like a donkey doing all the manual labor . I could probably survive if I was a man at least I would be able to get my own wife with sole silver are goats . Using solar would still mean using electricity

Wait. Why do we need to get so primitive to the barbaric ages? I mean there were good civilization eras too like the Indus Valley or even the Egyptians or Romans where they did have some law and order and even respect for women folk. (okay I admin I didnt study history in depth but then this is from what I read about in school) and they did not have electricity back in those times. And yes, we would work harder than we do today but that hard work would be more of physical labor which would keep us healthier and more fit I mentioned the solar and electricity as the current solar energy is not much usable unless converted into electrical energy if you want it to run your refrigerator or even the television

No light at all? I would feel scared cause light is like a source of faith that there is something or someone that is there for you, and you are not alone in the world. I just finished watching horror movie which has little monsters which only can move in the dark. They are afraid of the light cause they are bad ones. We are human, so, it is normal to be afraid of the dark. But it takes a lot of courage to fight while you are in the dark, just like in the movie. Life isn't always like a movie at all. We have to be braver than those cause it was all scripted. In life, there is no script. Whatever happens, there's always a reason, so we have to be braver than we are and fight for what we believe in.

Well wow , nice respond I was not expecting certain things like , the what light symbolize . I sleep with light because I cant sleep in the dark by myself anymore , dont know why. Maybe we would have develop night vision like some animals lol . Yes I believe all things happen for a reason . thank you for your respond

Yeah, that's how I look at light in a positive way, I think. Well, there are things we sure don't know why exists, like sun, we seldom complain it's too hot but then it was really a blessing to experience the sun rays specially if you are getting cold or shivering. That's why we should be thankful everyday cause God has things for us we never asked for but then He gave without waiting for us to ask about. Maybe there's afear in you that you just couldn't admit... That's why you sleep with the lights on. It's impossible to think that you don't know why you have to sleep with light on, maybe you know the answer you just don't like to elaborate more... Hahah, yeah, lucky for animals they have night visions cause they go anywhere they can, so, they have to have bright eyes as well. It is their nature cause they don't have any source of light than the sun itself. As a person, we can do all things, so electricity has evolved and for us to better see things.

Well, you have well said, "real dark" would be our life without electricity! There would be pages and pages to write inherently in this topic, but let us reflect just the essentials. At home, household appliances, lighting, total darkness! (how sad). No phone, no mobile phone, cut off from all the people. Case icy for the lack of heating. Forget even the use of computers. And much more!   I would say unthinkable a world devoid of electricity!

The point exactly , we would have no means of knowing all the people we do now . No more talking to family over the telephone . A lot of people would be sick during the winter . I am really thankful for the founder of electricity .

Hello If there's no electricity. It's impossible to work here in mylot..:)just kidding..lol.. I think it's a difficult situation since in our modern world electricity takes a big part. Although that's a difficult situation but it doesn't mean that we will not survive.

I agree we would survive . I think the way the nations have now united in peace would not have form if wasn't for electricity . It would take days for a message to reach across the world and a lot of killing would happen with no way to prove who is guilty .

Life was much simpler back before all the technology and electricity. That was back at a time when neighbors were neighbors and people, for the most part, cared about one another. I wouldn't have a problem with hunting for food daily or fishing because I do that now. I'd just as soon eat wild meat as the meat you buy in the stores. It's healthier for you. Driving around in a buggy or riding on horseback wouldn't be to bad. I love to ride horses. I think I could get adjusted to living like that, because when I was growing up we lived in houses that didn't have running water, no bathroom (we had an outhouse), my mom cooked on a wood stove and we heated with a wood heater which we had to go out and chop wood for. What would be the hardest to get used to would be no t.v. and no computer. Just think there wouldn't be an electric bill, phone bill, no gas bill, auto insurance to pay, no vehicle taxes, etc. I could survive.

Yes life was simpler from what I have heard and seen at a certain time . Really you hunt for food now , what do you do ? how do you do it ? and why ? so many question but I would love to know . I agree with you it would be healthier for us to eat fresh food more often . I have never ride horses only maybe a few is in my country and they are only on race track . Sound hard but its doable and you seems to have it in the bag lol .

Lol, it almost sounds like you're describing the life of an Almish person. Take a trip up to Lancaster PA. There you will see people riding horse n buggies, not using electricity, churning butter, and wearing solid dark colors. Like that weird Al song from way back lol. For me no I couldn't imagine living like that. I'm on the computer all the time for work or personal use. Not to mention my family lives very far away.

I have never seen such people in real life only on the television . Electricity allow us to see in other culture without even being there . I would love to see how those people live but maybe they dont like outsider coming in there surrounding . I see , you wold not be able to keep instant contact with your family and do the work you do , most my family live far away also and I am on the computer all day at work and then at night . You would need those Amish people to give you a lesson lol .

Silver, if my area here don't have electricity, then i won't be able to enjoy sitting in a cold and nice home. Besides that, i am unable to online and having the opportunity to chat with all of you in here. Even i can't keep my food in the refrigerator, so it would be tiring have to go to the market to buy fresh meat and veggies. I think i can't live a day without the electricity. It would be a boring life for me.
