Hi there fellow Mylotters,
Here in our country, supermarkets and other stores are implementing the non-usage of plastic and other plastic bags. And I find this rule very good since it will save added cost to the stores plus it will lessen the cause of floods as the usage of plastic will be avoided. Aside from that, this move will create a good environmental effect. However, just a bit of observation, some stores are not prepared to divert their plastic into a paper packaging. In effect, whenever a consumer bought some goods from their store, the consumer need to carry the product as it is. Though, there are environmental reusable bags being sold and consumers are encourage to use those. But, what if, you immediately went to the store without the environmental reusable bag at your hand plus you don't have the extra money to buy reusable bag, isn't it proper to place the goods inside a paper bag just to cover it. And not just giving it uncover to the consumer or customer. Whereas before, whenever you bought some foods or goods in a store, they tend to place it even in a small plastic bags but now, they will just give it as it is without covering them at least.

are you from the philippines? yeah its being implemented here in the philippines and thats part of our GREEN Project to save our nature.
the idea of using paper instead of plastic is brilliant. but for this to be possible, we people should do our part. i know that it is a pain in the as$ specially if the goods you are buying needs to be covered or something, but since this law has been already implemented lets just follow it without hesitation and dont complain. change always starts from ourselves, so lets do it first and let the rest follow.

I live in an area where a number of the stores won't automatically offer a bag. I know that my boyfriend grumbles some about it, but I do like the policy. We should be remembering our reusable tote bags--especially since I've accumulated so many!--and be using those instead.

Indeed, our government appeals the public to use recyclable bags to instead of plastic, and demand the markets charge the consumers who ask for the plastic bags, however, it seems to be useless. I believe that the only way to reduce the plastic pollution is to ban the plastic bags in any market, so that people can realize that they should bring or buy some recyclable bags to instead.

well they are many pros and cons from this saving environment program. like in my country they will charge 20 cents for a plastic bag on saturday if you wish to have a plastic bag to carry your goods. i know having this kind of less using plastic bag or saving environment program is good and it will take time to make people aware and use to bring recycle bag as a practice every time go shopping. but just sometimes this really get me in trouble. like you had mention, things like that may happen but lucky my country even have this kind of program but if really need it they still give you plastic bag to carry your goods. i wonder how others country is??

Whenever you go to a shop you can always bring a bag of your own. Although I'm praising the Philippines in my other posts, here I feel the need to say that some things should be improved. And stopping the use of that horrible plastic is just a good step forwards. Sure, people need some time to get used to it. But it will happen defenitely.

I haven't heard about malls not giving any plastic or paper bags if they don't bring their reusable bags. I'm sure if the buyer has many things to buy she will be forced to buy the green bag or the reusable bag. Who would be sane enough to carry all those things home without a bag? I mean we should be forced to buy even if we don't have extra we have to deduct some of the things we have to buy so as we won't be inconvenient to go home with all those things. This is a good move by malls so we can all help our environment and help preserve mother earth. Let's just hope that all of us will cooperate.

I have never seen that...bought products without bags.. I agree, that the cause is good, we can lessen the flood and they can lessen the things they need to buy. But it is just not practical. There are groceries that have biodegradable plastics, they can easily rot, so they should be used instead.

Hi,
Nice policy there, doing away with plastic bags. I am used to having the things I bought received as is without wrapping. If it is small enough I will just stuff them in my pockets and if it cannot be carried by hands, I'll have my bag ready to contain them. I often refuse to have the things I buy wrapped in plastic anyway, preferring to carry them with the tag or receipt attached as proof that it is not stolen. Goods packed in cartons go out as it is as well, no plastics, no problem.

Yeah, I have observed that also. And some establishments that I gave observed or a store perhaps. They are using paper bags, but still inside the paper bags the goods are still wrap up in plastic bags. Still same right? they just added a extra cost to their supply if they do that way. I guess the problem is proper dissemenation of information. The reason why plastic bags are change to paper bags. The pro's and con's of paper bags. If that kind of information is well dissemenated then we could observe a good flow on it at least.

Well more time to adjust in this implementation is really needed.Shoppers should not forgetful to bring ecobags with them when they are shopping.Better have checklist to buy so they could have idea on how they will carry it and where to put it.

New changes take some time for adjustments. Sometimes customers are not ready for the changes. Even though it is done for good cause, I can see how it will be troublesome for some people. For instance, people are not always go shopping by car; sometimes they take public transportation, ride motorcycles, or bikes. And I'd imagine it would be hard to carry goods without bags while riding bicycle.

Yes, that is one lesson for me.Yesterday, I need to go to a certain store "carinderia" for my meal and it was for dine out . I forgot to bring my reusable bags so what was happened was that the sales lady put the rice and vagiant that I have been bought in a very small transparent plastic bag so the ending was it was very visible to the bystanders what I have been bought.

That sounds irritating. Even most people I know that own shopping bags do not own enough to carry a large order. I hope they never do that here in the states. If they want to support the environment that badly they should switch back to using paper bags all the time again.

This is a big problem for people who do impulsive shopping. If you have a routine shopping routine with the implementation of the law, you know to bring your shopping bag since you don't want to buy any more bags to carry your stuff.
I guess supermarkets like you mention don't seem it important that the product needs to be covered if it is small. I often reject covers for small things if I am going to use or consume it right away or something that can be placed inside my bag. I guess for consumers they don't want to buy a big bag for such a small purchase. Some supermarkets also cannot provide a bag for small purchases since they prioritize big amount of groceries.
