Holiday pay

Long vacation is about to come once again in our country. I'm sure some of you will still be working and some may go home to their respective provinces. I am among those who still have to work even on holidays, for November 1 alone. But, just a quick question, do we get paid on regular holidays even if it's our day offs? My day off falls on a Friday, which happens to fall on a holiday. I read a blog just now that we do get paid even if it's our day off but I am not getting it before. Or, this blog might also be not updated with our DOLE Labor code. So I really have to ask since it's money after all . Do you get paid on holidays even if it falls on your day off? Does this apply to all the companies or it would depend on your contract? This is the blog I was telling about. There are several factors that we have to consider here. The person's employment contract, the type of company (foreign companies that have no offices here are not required to give holiday pay - this is a bit complicated to explain :), and even a person's position in a company. But for regular employees, they are entitled to a holiday pay if you were asked to report for work on that day. And if such a day is also your day off, the pay is higher. If you weren't asked to report for work, then there's no additional pay since that day off of yours is already incorporated in your monthly basic pay.

Nov. 1 falls on a friday, my day off. I am not asked to go to work, does that mean I also don't get any pay for that regular holiday? Because our accountant said, that we are paid 22 days already. So it's like our day offs are Saturday and Sunday just like that with the government owned companies. If our rest days fall on holiday, it means we are already paid with that. So that's an additional 1 day of my pay? My gosh, I am so not good at this

There's actually no additional pay since you weren't asked to report for work. Your rest day is already paid being part of your monthly salary regardless what day it falls. Sorry, Gaiza, and I could imagine how you feel. It's just really tough luck that the holiday fell on your rest day.

Thanks for this. But I still don't understand why I was not paid last Oct. 26 since that was also a holiday and it falls on my day off. Our accountant said it's like we were paid already for these holidays if it falls on our RD. But our monthly pay is still the same

Basing on the DOLE guidelines Oct. 26 was a regular holiday and as it was your day off as well but you still reported for work you should be paid as follows: For monthly rates - on top of your basic rate you are to be paid - an additional of 100% of you daily rate - another additional 60% (30% of your daily rate x 200%=60%) of your daily rate That is if your daily rate is 100 you will be paid an additional of 160 on top of your basic pay. For Daily wage earners: - 200% of your daily rate - 60% of your daily rate (30% x rate x 200%) That is if your daily rate is 100 you will be paid 260 for working on your day off which falls on a holiday. This computation is based only on basic daily rate and does not include cost of living allowance (COLA) if you are entitled to which is still to be added to your salary. Hope this will help but if you really want to be clarified further, you could contact DOLE for assistance.

By the way did you report for work on Oct. 26? If you did then you are entitled to above computation but if you did not, you will not receive any additional compensation on top of your basic pay (if you are paid monthly) as this is already imputed on the monthly basic pay.

I heard in the news this morning that Friday, November 2, is a special non-working holiday. Meaning to say, no work, no pay for those who work in private sector.

Yeah, I guess I won't be having any pay for that. But, with the Oct. 26, it also was a Friday, do I get paid with that?

Thanks dear. I just hope I will receive my pay for that day if I don't I guess it really is not included with my pay since I was on day off that time. Have a good day!

Yes, I think you will because I've read before that it was a regular holiday. My calendar here was already printed with the word Eid Al-Adha on the date you've mentioned so I think it was already declared before the year started. I hope that helps.

I think every registered company is obliged to pay their working employees on holidays. But since I never work in a company or any government sector, I work online, we don't have such kind of pay. And we don't have also the same holiday that Filipinos are enjoying. But it's okay. Have a great pay.

It's good that you only get to work online. I really wish to have that kind of job full time. Anyway, I think I am not paid because I don't work on my rest day. No work no pay they say. Thanks for sharing

I think you will be paid if that day your off would be a regular holiday. And in Friday, it will be just a Special Non working Holiday and November is the regular Holiday. Our boss already told us about that. He said even if we do not go to work on November 1, still we will be paid by the agency. So if you will have a work on November 1, that would be a double pay but if you have your off on Friday, you will not be paid anymore for that is a Special Non working Holiday only unlike November 1. Hope you will get my point. I think it is a bit confusing.lol

Yes, I get your point. I just don't understand our accountant. She discussed this to us but I really don't understand. So you get paid on day offs if it falls of a regular holiday huh!

I live in the states and I get paid no matter what on the 15th and the 1st of every month. Most employers here pay you if they're shut down for holidays.

hi, DOLE said that you will be paid when you have work before the day of holiday,so when its your rest day during holiday it is still paid because you worked on Thursday,a day before the holiday, because in my agency they paid us as a regular holiday because our last duty was on October 31.
