I have an acer laptop that belonged to my friends son. Unfortunately he doesn't remember the password so when it powers up his name is there and it asks for the password...which I don't have. Is there anyway I can get into it and change the user name and password or am I stuck with a laptop that I can't use? It has windows 7 and that's all I know about it. If possible I would like to fix it without having it cost me anything...is it possible? Thanks in advance for your input!

The only way to fix it is to ask your friend about the password of the laptop... its the only way that you can run the system. However, if you really need it to run. you can always reboot your system having it formatted so that it will run new but you need to have a legit installer of the windows 7 OS and have it installed thus it will change the system of your computer to a new one. Try have it check also with a technician who specializes in computer hardware etc. or have it consult to a computer shop and computer expert.

I would share it if I could, ethically it would be so wrong.. Why? Not saying anyone specific but imagine someone went into your home stole your computer and used the inforation that I give out to steal your personal information... In a way I would be responsible for helping that person do this.. I am willing to share most information freely, but when it comes to someones personal information being harmed I will not give an instruction booklet

Yes I know what you need to do, it shouldnt cost you a thing but I will private message it to you.. I would rather not announce it to the world.. Some people may use the information for bad things..

you have to add me as a friend before i can private message you have a youtube video showing you exactly what you need to do reformating shouldnt be the first option... My solution just requires a little time a couple tools.. and done.. problem should be solved.. without paying a dime or losing information off the labtop if done properly..

In my opinion, it would be better if you reformat and reinstall Windows 7 if you have the installer disc. I don't think you will need the files and applications of your friend's son so doing a fresh install would not only remove your password issue, you also eliminate having to go through and removing unwanted files and applications.

there are ways to do this, here is one http://www.ilikemall.com/guide/reset-windows-7-password.html You will need another pc to download the software and to create a bootable disk.
