As you all know there is someone here who seems to be having athlete's foot, based on the replies of most members here. I am curious though. Can athlete's foot affect any part of the body like hands, face, or anywhere else besides the feet? When I learned that this is a communicable disease, I am beginning to be careful with this helper affected by it. I no longer let her inside the house, the laundry area is outside of the house anyway, so I get to do what she was supposed to do inside the house. I gave her two plastic bags which she could use to protect her feet from getting wet. What do you think? How dangerous is this disease?

It can and does effect the hands you would need to get treatment for it as soon as possible if it was to infect your hands. Its not dangerous at all, and its not a disease its a fungus get an anti fungal and you will never have to worry. You could also use bleach and that would kill it in the shower and other places. If I was you I would look it up on line and that will answer all of your questions.

Here is a link to a web page that will tell you a bit more about what it is and what you can do to get rid of it.

Well, here in the US there is a lot of medications and powders a person can use that will help with this type of thing, and by having her outside that is good. Did you mop down the areas she might have been in just to make sure everything is clean? This is something that is contagious. Not sure about anywhere but feet, but until it is gone best you protect everything for sure.

What I know is; it is a fungal infection, it effects the wet, warm areas mostly the armpit, area around the genitals, one should avoid using others clothes, if one member in the home has it, this can spread; better to wash clothes in home LOL.

Although the condition typically affects the feet, it can infect or spread to other areas of the body, including the groin, particularly areas of skin that are kept hot and moist, such as with insulation, body heat, and sweat in a shoe, for long periods of time. It is usually called a different name if it affects other parts of the body. Athlete's foot could be really contagious and if left untreated, the lesions would widen and get deeper and you would surely have difficulty in walking.

Yes, it can affect other parts of the body. Athletes Foot is highly treatable and not considered by any means serious or dangerous however you would want to get it taken care of. It will not go away on its own, its very contagious, and its also very uncomfortable. As other members said its a fungal infection so in the future consider places you come in contact with where it could grow. The most common place people contract Athletes food is in a public shower. Also if she has it on her feet she'll have to either find a way to disinfect her shoes or just throw them out.

It's not dangerous,it's a fungal disease, which as the name suggests, mainly affects the feet and toenails..it causes itchiness which can result in broken skin if you can get at the toes or feet and scratch them to try and relieve the itch..having then now got the fungus on the fingers,(and fingernails)they can become infected,or any other area of the body where you might be prone to scratching..Washing and drying the feet thoroughly, and using an antifungal cream or spray to help clear up the nail infection and other affected areas should work..If You're sharing bathroom or shower facilities, use shower shoes to minimise risk of contact.

It is possible that athletes foots can affect the other part of the body. That's why we need to be careful of putting some topical creams treatment and hand washing will be necessary to prevent from contamination.
