Just curious if you plan your babies name before birth or after. Most parents I know they already had the name for the baby before date of birth whether a boy or girl. They already have name when the baby coming out. They even prepare a name for a boy and girl.
But some are just pick name once the baby born.
Do you think its nice idea to have the name prepared before or after birth?
How about you do you prepare one for your child beforehand?
Thanks to all of you!

Both of my children were named before they were born. In fact both of my children were named before they were even conceived. I thought that it would just make things a lot easier if the children were named before they were born. In addition to that, I liked to be able to refer to my children by their names before they were born because that way it just started to make things feel a lot more natural after they were born.

My husband and I have had names long before we got pregnant with our daughter (our first). We found out that we were having a little girl, and we pretty much choose her name that same day. We chose among the names that we had already wanted to use. We had two girls names and two boys names already chosen before we found out that we were expecting our first child.

In my last pregnancy I found out I was expecting a baby girl. During that pregnancy I wrote a list of girls names that I liked and I found that easy. I chose a name that is a stone seen in a crystal shop and it luckily suits her. I used two of the other names for her middle names.
I find is hard to choose a boys name. I couldn't decide what to call my disabled son. My partner suggested a silly name and chose something which rhymed with that. His name means brave lion and it suits him. He has lots of operations so he needs that braveness. I found it challenging to name my older son. My mom suggested a name and my ex husband agreed to that. I liked that name so that is how he got that name. It has been a shame that name became very popular.
I like normal names that are a little bit unusual.

Although the pregnant time seems to be long. But I don't know why I just decided the name for my baby when he was born. It seemed that we had been busy to prepare for the stuff for our baby and therefore we didn't have time to think about it

I guess it is a really nice idea to plan before giving birth. Since in our place, people usually baptize the baby a month or 2 after giving birth to them. So to avoid hassle and racking the brains.. names should be planned at least a month or 2 before the baby is due.

I planned my sons name 4-5 months before he was born. I named him Miguel after my grandfather.

I think it's advisable to prepare a baby name before the child comes out. In this way, the name you choose is specially prepared for your child. I am 6 months on the way, and we starting to think or search for baby names.

I get excited to find a name for my baby months before I give birth, except for my eldest where I wasn't really aware that I was pregnant, until I gave birth. Well, that is a long story.
Anyway, with my 3 other sons, I would be like thinking of combination of names for them and look it up on the Baby Names book to find for their meaning.
I have wanted to name my 4th son as Jonathan Aaron. But when I told the nurse to out that name on my baby's chart, she came back and told me that my husband didn't want a name that starts with the letter "J", which both me and my husband's name starts with and so with my other sons. The first name that came to my mind was Sean, so I named him Sean Aaron. A few weeks after giving birth, I was surfing the net and was looking for the meaning of "Sean". It turns out that it is an Irish name for John, which incidentally is my husband's name.

My baby's name has been ready way before i gave birth. I think on my 7th month of pregnancy, we already have his name picked out. Well, others just pick their babies' name on the day they were born, others based it on the day, date and if there are any feast for any saint on that day.

Here in Greece the baby is not given a name until it is 'baptised' into the Orthodox faith. It is called simply 'baby' until then. It is basically a superstition I believe, but I'm not Orthodox so I am not sure.
I named my child after a character in a film, and my son was named after a cricketer, fortunately both names were pleasant. I know a little girl called 'Melody' which I think was a lovely choice made by parents who could both sing. So between them they produced a melody!

First time parents are so excited and with their first born. That is why they really buy a book for baby's name alone.Other parents, combine the names of themselves or their grandparents, or sometimes their favorite celebrity. For Catholics, especially those who are devoted, they put Maria or Joseph before the chosen name. Well, all of us want a beautiful name for our baby, who wouldn't? I think it is ok if we have a ready name before the birth of the baby.

However to say,I think it's necessary to plan names. All right!!!

i think i will prepare the names for the coming babies when can detect the baby is boy or girl. thinking of the name may take long time so stating few months before giving birth is a ready to welcome the baby/ new member of the family.

With my youngest son I had his name picked out long before he was born.. I knew he was a boy; I had a first name picked out but not a middle name if he would have been a girl...
Now with my oldest; his intials were picked out long before his dad was born.. It was a family tradition.. His first name was picked out 3 years before he was born.. We were not sure of his middle name.. My aunt and my ex husband actually brought a list of possbile names the day after he was born..
Names are really important; I didnt really think so before I had children.. But it does put them on a certain path as they grow up.. Not sure exactly how to explain it...

In the earlier years it use to be a practice to keep the name of grand father or grand mother as the name for the newly born child. This is practice is faded away. Nowadays expecting couples decide about the name -- if they know the gender of baby - then accordingly otherwise they are ready with boy name or girl name ready. still before it is finalised there is confusions and then decided,

We should prepare our babies name before their birth, because we need to fill in a paper to get their birth certificate from the hosipital.
