Guys, I would like to ask you on what will you do if you saw something strange going on in your community?
I actually saw and I even captured pictures of it on my mobile phone...I saw trees being illegally cut in our mountain side just above our house...I said that it is illegal because the Department of Environment will not tolerate or permit those guys to cut trees because the mountain had once had landslide and it is just above a small residential area including us, who are living peacefully...

It is better to report it immediately, and you have evidence too. But the problem is, if the authorities are with them.. or if the people responsible for that just pay the authorities. maybe you should jut post it online, the media can spread it..

I also believe turning in the evidences to the media is the best, since you don't know who you're up against and if ever they have connections with the higher ups. Besides, you can use an alias or even remain anonymous and this will be likely respected by the media than the authorities who might get back at you.

Yes...I have actually message a local television station...they replied me that their station is always open for me...however, I have been so busy at work and cannot get out during office hours.

I think it is our duty to be always on guard about our community. You can report it to the DENR and present to them the photo you have taken to support your report. This will be really helpful.

I think, in every move, we have to consider our security issues...who knows, those guys behind illegal logging will raid our house and hurt us?

Maybe you could ask not to disclose your identity for your safety. Your action will surely be a big move in order to stop these people who are doing illegal acts.

abuda:
I understand that you may be fearful to do so, but if you feel like other people are in danger because of these trees being cut down, then I say you should report it. If you are in fear of your own safety, you can report it anonymously by phone. Most police departments have hotlines for such things. Call your local news and tell them that you wish to remain unnamed. I would print the pictures off my cell phone and check for the email address of your local news station and find one of its reporters to send your pictures to.
At the end of the day, you have to decide if your fear will keep you from doing what you need to do to ensure the safety of not only yourself, but of the community that you live in. It is a tough choice, perhaps, but I suspect that you already know what the right thing to do is. I shall keep you and your neighbors in my prayers.

there's always something strange going on in my community but you cannot report it because those who you would report it to are prejudiced or even involved or worse responsible
so what advice can I give you... if you think that your authorities are reliable then I would report it in your case. Try to do it anonymously as you never know if someone will talk about it and if those guys hear about it they will not be amused.

Of course you will need to report that to the proper authorities. But make sure that those authorities will not identify you for your security's sake. We will never know, maybe those authorities are also behind such acts.

I'm skeptical of reporting things in to authorities. I would first find out who these people are. Then I would confront them, they may be having some hardship and need the wood to help keep them warm. Also if you would report them in, would these people be able to find out who you are (the one's that turned them in) they might do something to you for revenge?

Report it to the Media! It will take out whatever advantage the powerful have over us!, then the proper authorities will act on your complain

I'd say: what are you waiting for? Report them immediately! We had people from a factory digging sand from our beach. Not just a pale, no truckloads full every day! It's also hatching ground for turtles. So we started a petition letter and soon enough they had to stop. Maybe you can make a petition letter as well. Together you're much stronger!
