$13.00 to wash a car- what? do they wash it with gold?

Mexico
November 6, 2012 7:36am CST
I took a friends car to get washed yesterday. Just a quick car wash, no wax. $13.00 are they nuts? That is so expensive. And of course they want a tip for drying it as well. How bad is it there where you are?

Get clean car is important for us if we always go traveling every where. Other people will think we are a person who love clean in our live. But if we have to pay expensive price to wash a car, wait a second, I don't want to do it. I prefer to clean car with my self. I don't want to give my money to car wash guy.

Open up a side business and you will be able to retire really young. The products we use do not require water and the protect your car. With environmental concerns it is really helpful.

That seems to be the going rate. Here some car washes can cost up to 50 dollars. They have different options. Some are just a plain carwash, no interior nothing. Others are complete full service.

What isn't expensive these days. Look at prices on things now. It is totally off the hook. I know it don't mean much to people with money, but its hard for all of us to afford things.

Yep, speaking of higher prices. Cigs. are up to 4.00 a pack here now. I can understand those price sin usa where people make at least 6.00- a hour. But in a country where most make 75.00-120.00 per week. Seems kinda high to me. Im glad I dont have a car or smoke here.

I still find that reasonable actually some here pay more than that. See the value of water is getting higher and washing involves water of course, that is why it is getting expensive..plus the labor of it too.

It's worse here... $15 for the "drive thru" one; you know, where you drive your car inside a car wash area, stop or park your car, then the machine washes your car while you are in it. $2 extra if you want to use the vacuum cleaner to clean the inside of your car yourself; and you only have 5 minutes unless you put another $2 inside the machine. $20 if you want real person, not a machine, to wash the outside of your car for you. $10 extra if you want the inside of your car vacuumed for you as well.

You're right, what's considered affordable is relative... $75 will be about five hours working on minimum wage here. Did you mean $75/month there?

it is funny because i would say the same as you have put it in the topic of the discussion. I have no car and have not experienced it yet. i was telling hubby that car wash is a good business because in my country that is Fiji there were a handful of Filipinos and they had opened a car wash and they were really doing very good business. I have hardly seen a car wash here in Goa and if there is i am sure it is very expensive. Goa is expensive than any part of India as far as i have seen. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful day ahead.

wow, it was really crazy. I will be a rich man if i do that business hahahahahaha. that prize was too expensive. in my country, you have to pay less than $ 2.5 to have better service. so why you don't try to make same business with cheaper price and make them over?

Hubby details our cars with a waterless car wash, so I do not know how it is here. So do people physically wash your car? We used self service and it was close to ten, I think.

Car washes are charging a lot in my area also. Most of my neighbors are now washing their cars and I think its a wise decision. Its hard to believe how much they are charging now and I understand water costs have gone up, but that is to much.

I have no idea about car wash bills here. What I wanna rant about is how high my water bill is. I don't know how much it will be in USD but what I can tell you is that it's fixed to a certain price, then if you go beyond that (they'll know via metric measuring) you'll add up twice the rate of an ordinary bill. It's awful here. Another problem is we can't move yet since all of us are busy and we can't look for a new apartment.

13$ for washing a car is quite OK But the thing is, I don't spend money for washing purpose. I just used to wash my vehicle by myself. I really love doing it and I really enjoy it.

I think 13.00 is ok, if they also wax the car. But for a 10-15 mint. wash i thought was high.

Wow! the price you mentioned is just too exaggerating for a simple car wash service. Here I normally went for a car wash once a month and it only cost me around 3 usd for one good wash. That means the amount you paid for can accommodate my car wash cost for three months. I consider the cost of car wash at my place is pretty appropriate as the normal price range from 2 to 3 usd.

I agree with you. The price is too high for an easy job. You can actually wash your car so easily. Just use cheap shampoo and your car will look like brand new. Try it.

I agree Maria - it is a ridiculous price for a car wash... But - They can only charge what people are willing to pay, As long a somebody will pay $13 for a basic car wash - they will continue to charge that much
