Well with Thanksgiving and Christmas just around the corner it's time to start planning my holiday menus. I want to try some different desserts for this year. Anyone out there have any ideas or suggestions?

Have you tried baking a whole pumpkin. We take small sugar pumpkins about 3-4lbs. We cut the top as if to carve it and scoop out the innards (we roast the seeds of coarse) into the cavity we pack in cut apples, chopped walnuts and raisins or cranberries that have been tossed with brown sugar and cinnamon (or pie spice). We then roast with top on in a 350 oven for about 45 minutes to an hour. Usually until the pumpkin is soft. We serve with ice cream or whipped cream. It looks pretty on a serving dish whole.

I just take out the guts and seeds but leave the "meat" as it is sooo tasty when roasted!

It does! So I just put the whole pumpkin in the oven? Do I scrape everything out and leave it out? Or do I leave some of the pumpkin in it too?

Not that long ago I made these amazing pumpkin treats. I used 2 cans of the grands crescent rolls, canned pumpkin, powdered sugar, a handful of regular sugar, spices, and cream cheese. They tasted just like a mini pumpkin pie! I found the recipe on Pinterest. If you are able, they have so many ideas for so many different things. I have tried many of the recipes that get posted. While I make some modifications to them (based on the preferences of my family) they usually go over pretty well.

Maybe a lasagna, or mac and cheese casserole, or banana nut bread. Who knows what the holidays will bring. I will be getting inspiration from online recipes.

I think I may do some online research as well. See if I can come up with something different, although, I have to admit I've been getting some great stuff here on MyLot!!

French apple cobbler is a great dessert that everybody has always loved when I made it. You can find it here: http://southernfood.about.com/od/apples/r/bl80301c.htm I found the recipe for this in a cookbook I have. My mother gave me the book 43 years ago and I've been making this recipe since then. After I read your discussion I searched for it so I could pass it on to you. I figured it must be on the net somewhere. I hope if you get a chance to make it that you and your family like it as much as mine does. It can be served with ice cream or whipped cream or heavy sweet cream just poured over it.

You're welcome! And I forgot to mention, you can eat it just as is, warm out of the oven. It's so good it really doesn't need anything else. And yes, I would like very much to know how they liked it. Thanks!

You can also try some sweet dishes. Last week i tried Rasagulla, made of(paneer, all purpose flour, sugar). It somewhat comes in a good way and the dish is so delicious too.Even it's one of the favourite to all kinds (special to kid) and (sugar patients..:))of people. Try it and refer some blogs for good tips. Advance Happy and Merry Christmas......

I think that just pies and custards are enough to keep anyone full of work as dessert making goes. Pies are so different depending on the filling. A lemon pie has nothing to do with an apple pie. I make an easy lemon banana pie with sweetened condensed milk, lemon juice, beaten egg whites and banana slices. I cover it with sweet beaten egg whites. Yummy!
