What do we need to consider in buying children's toys?

First of all we have to check the materials that the toy is made up of, are they safe for the child or not? Then we have to consider about the nature and interest of the child. For the children building blocks, puzzles, games etc are better as they help in the mental growth of the child. The toy also has to be colorful to catch the eye of the child. It has to be something which could help the child to learn and have fun at the same time.

When buying toys it is first of all important to consider their safety. They should have passed tests and be certified. The age on the toy itself should be checked out. It s a good guideline as to whether it is suitable for your child or not. It is a good idea to buy a good number of educational toys, and to evaluate how each toy can be helpful to the child in developing its motor skills, speech, recognition and memory skills, amongst other things.

I've read that some toys are made from harmful chemicals. So we should watch out for those toxic toys.

Of course the first thing to consider is the safety. Whether this toy is suitable for the children. Will the children eat the small parts of it? If you think that this toy is safe for your children. Then you can think about whether your children like it or not. And will it be durable? Can they learn something from it? etc.

yes toys help in child's education ,they develop the skills required at that tender age, we can make out in which part is the child interested, some children open up all the parts of the toys ,some decorate them and like that, we can understand the child's interest and observation.

I don't consider anything except if my son like a specific toy, no matter how simple the toy may be, it's in the child's creative thinking that he will explore and learn from the toy.

There are lots of things to consider when buying toys for kids, me? I checked the price-if it's worth it. second I check if it is safe (cheap toys are toxic-with lead content) and sometimes I consider also if the kid will enjoy it. Most of the time though I buy educational toys. If and when I do have my own kids someday soon I would prefer wooden toys for them. I don't like battery operated toys, they do nothing much and is easily broken.

In my childhood, there was not much toys available to play. In fact, we played with nature and used natural things to play and learn. I born and brought up in a village, so there was plenty of opportunities to grow with nature. Grown ups made many toys by using coconut tree leaves and using different parts of other trees and plants. They never harm in anyway but were beautiful too. Now the age of electronic toys and no one uses the natural toys anymore even in my village. I too, living in a metro city at present. There are lots of toys available, costly and fewer. Toys should be selected according to the age of the kids and it should not harm the kids anyway. I agree toys play an important role in the motor development in kids.

I think the easiest way for kids to learn is from each other. We try to teach them things but they will eventually pick it up, its innate that they want to walk and speak. Motor development is important and if they have a learning disability they should get some special help so they can function at the same level.

When I but toys for children, I consider if it's age appropriate for the child. When taking this into consideration, you will know whether the toy has parts that are too small for a younger child, that they might swallow. I never bought things that came out new, because a lot of times you would find out that they have recalled.

You're absolutely right! As for me, of course I look for what they call educational toys. Be it building blocks, musical toy instruments, etc. Not only that, I check the maker of the toys. I make sure that its from a good trusted company.

Why not just observe the child to find out how he handles himself without toys? I have noticed how toys today take away a child's imagination.

I like and agree with most of the responses these Mylotters made. I will only add that don't forget to get the right kind of wrapping paper since (especially) a baby loves the wrapping paper more than the toy.

hi, for me when i buy toys for my nephew and niece when they were kids,i usually bought those puzzle toys or those board games,like scrabbles and snake and ladders,to enhance more there mind,another way to mold there knowledge about words.

When i am buying a toy's for my niece and nephews i always consider their age first, then the durability of the toys, the price and what kinds of material had in a toy for safety reasons. When the pass all my considerations the i will buy it and give to my niece or nephews, before i am not careful in buying toys but after learning that some toys has a hazardous effects to the children i became more aware and careful in buying toys.
