anti-flu vaccine: is this for real?

People are willing to spend money just to be healthy. Recently, there is this shot that hospitals give to people which is supposed to protect you from contracting flu. Pediatricians give this to kids too. Well, my niece who is a nurse, called me months ago to hurry and go to her house because she was going to give me the vaccine. She just gave her mom half of it and the other half has to be used or it will be wasted. She herself had the shot already. Unfortunately I was in the middle of doing something so I couldn't just fly to their place so I had to say no at that time. This vaccine is supposed to protect everyone who gets it from ever having flu again so it was something I did miss. However, I noticed that in spite of the vaccine, she and her mom still get the flu from time to time. They even get it more than I do. I am now wondering if this anti-flu vaccine is for real. What do you think?

You're JUST hearing about this? There've been vaccines like this sense before I was born! (You can "Search the Web" above to find out the full history.) What it is (and always has been) is a weakened form of the flu-virus, meant to set your immune-system to work developing your 'cure' (which is why a lot of people "get sick" when they get vaccinated---their bodies are reacting to the virus, just the way they're supposed to). It's been a long time since I've had a flu-shot ... I think--since my body naturally cured my brain-damage when I was hit by a car--my immune-system has been rated 'impermeable'---if I were to subject it to the same treatment as 'you lesser beings' immune-systems' , my immune-system would flab out like a former football-star who now sleeps all day & eats all night.

Good thought. When one takes the same vaccination again and again the immune system becomes resistance to the vaccine and it has not effect later on the body.

We've had this recently in our area. I wonder if it works.

It is definitely real, I had mine before I took off to my mission in other country. I never had the flu even I am an Asian in winter season. It is also a requirement for us to have.

Hi Shav! There are probably vaccines that are not so good and some which are effective like the one you got.

i have had a flu shot before with our company - they are shouldering the expenses and so i did try it anyway. i think what good it did was that it won't allow you to have colds and coughs at the same time. i think it is true whilst i had it i never had such a flu or colds or even slight fever myself for about 6 months or so.

I myself have never taken these vaccines. I get scared to take anything. I think our body can fight the flu without the vaccine. So it is okay that you did not take it or have missed it out. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful day ahead.

Hi Riya! I am also a bit paranoid when it comes to what they put or do to our body.

I'm generally a healthy person and don't really get Ill, the odd cold but hardly ever flu and the few times I've caught flu it's usually very mild. However I once used to work in a residential home and I had to have the flu jab to 'apparently' stop me from getting the flu and passing it on to the elderly people we were caring for. However not long after I had the vaccination I had the worst bout of flu I had ever experienced in my life! I was completely wiped out and could barely move for days afterwards. I have not had the jab since (even though they recommend that you have one every year) and I have not been poorly again since. My personal advice would be not to have one as I don't believe that they work.

Hey Wren! I'm taking it from someone who's been there. Thanks for sharing.
