What's So Bad about Jesus Being 'Only a Prophet'?

Because 'that' is what Christians complain about Islam saying, but--at the same time--they 'praise' Jesus because He BECAME 'only human' to live for all the rest of 'us humans'!
But listen to what the Al Qur`an (Book of Islam) says about Jesus (in 003.055) "Behold! Allah said: "O Jesus! I will take thee and raise thee to Myself and clear thee (of the falsehoods) of those who blaspheme; I will make those who follow thee superior to those who reject faith, to the Day of Resurrection: Then shall ye all return unto me, and I will judge between you of the matters wherein ye dispute.""
(that last part is something I should remember when I hear other Christians go off on some End-Times conjecture with which I heartily disagree---that I should think kind of a 'Well, that the way you walk; I'll keep on walking my way, and we'll settle-up when we meet The Judge.')
Because the fact that Jesus is a Prophet or -is a God doesn't make a difference in the way I live ... should it?

Being a Muslim I know there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. In Islam, prophets are the chosen people of the God/Allah and are sinless. They are human beings having divine guidance. Allah showed miracles through some of His prophets and those miracles were meant to make their nations realize these people are sent by the Supreme Authority like the miracles performed by prophet Moses. Those miracles do not make Moses any superior than the other human beings because all miracles he performed were from God. Muslims respect all prophets the same way they respect prophet Muhammad, peace be upon them all. Jesus was a great prophet who had a miraculous birth. He never claimed to be the son of God. the son/father relation mentioned in bible is not like child/parent, instead like slave/Master and to show the respect Jesus had for God and the love God has for Jesus.

You know me, I'm not Muslim or Christian so I do live the way I do regardless. My best guess? To say Jesus was just a prophet negates His Divinity. Many a Christian gets really upset and I can understand that.I agree if you are believer , knowing others are not should not change your life.

mythociate, when you said you were reading the Quran, it made me nervous.
It does make a very big difference whether Jesus was merely a prophet or the Son of God, the Anointed One. If he were only a prophet, then no one is saved because it was by His blood we were cleansed from our sins. No prophet would have been able to fill that role.
Should it make a difference in the way you live? Only if you want to be on the right side when it's all said and done.

Who's to say 'no prophet can save us?' "God can raise up children-of-God from the rocks & stones at your feet!"

Hello,
Actually this topic are very broad and wide... As my short message let it be your reading and learned from Al Qur'an may be because you believe in what the book said I understand that and respect. However, since I'm reading the Bible and learned from that so I believed in what the Bible said about Jesus. Pertaining to salvation through Jesus Christ. As a Prophet not only Islam claiming Jesus is only a prophet many of those but because we believed Jesus and that is our part as a believers of Him.

I heard this way back when I was still 14y.o that Jesus is a prophet under the narration present in the book of Qur'an from a Muslim. Instead of being offended by this statement, I was really happy and overwhelmed. This reaction was due to the fact that, muslims and christians are pretty different in terms of worship and way of living and yet, having such similarities is pretty good.

And who's to say that 'believing in Him' means 'believing He is God's only begotten'?

What is so bad about saying Jesus is only a prophet is that he said he is the Son of God and he accepted worship from Thomas. He even told Thomas that if he wanted to see the Father he had only to look at Him. If you want to know the truth about Jesus you need to read the New Testament which has eyewitness accounts from people who knew Him and heard His teaching.
You must know that not everyone who professes a faith really believes it, they just inherit it from the country of their birth. Hence judging Christianity by the way they 'walk' is not the best way of doing your research. Find a real genuine disciple and you will see that following Jesus does make a difference to the way they live.

You know Harrison Ford as 'only an actor,' but who's to say that he doesn't ALSO do more things than you know?
