Like the old adage says 'Practice makes perfect,' or maybe not, but it definitely makes you better. I assume you have a touchscreen phone which has now become a standard? Well I sucked at it when I first got an iPhone in 2009. I just couldn't seem to press the letter S and kept getting an A. But now here I am exclusively using my phone for internet (including myLot) for a month now. I still make mistakes but with my phone on landscape mode, I can type almost if not faster than I can using my other phone which uses a QWERTY physical keyboards. But I know some people who can type on their phones with the regular keypads even without looking. I don't see that happening yet on touchscreen phones unless they get to perfect tactile feedback of some sort.

5 words per minute isn't that hard on a touchscreen device. I have not taken any typing tests on my iPhone but I definitely type much much more than that. You should be fine not for long.

If you are talking about. QWERTY keyboard smartphones then there is nothing to it, all you need to know is that practice makes perfect. It is your consistency that matters, as long as you have your phone so it helps you always when you use it.

It's also a big problem for me. I have a very fast texting in Chinese, because i am a native. But when i transfer to English, it has become so hard.
I remembered that our office lived a German intern, and i am very pleased to communicate with foreign guys for different cultural backgrounds. Oral conversation goes smoothly between us, because he is also very good at English. However, when it comes to texting, he can text a very long passage in a short time, but i can only give back with some words due to my poor texting speed. It really embarased me, which brings much inconvenience for texting between us.
And just several days ago, i found mylot a very good place not only for upgrading my writing ability, but also for enhancing my typing speed. It is such a good place to solve the problem.
