How many of you take consideration of salary, position/rank, and type of work you do when you find a job? Do you do the job although the environment is not friendly and peaceful?

Way back when I graduated, all I want is to apply what I learned in college. Fortunately I got job that is on my field of expertise but then in terms of salary I earned small time but then it was okay because what I am after then is the experience and at that time I am still single so it was just enough for me. But when I got married and my husband had no permanent job, I decide to search other job with good paying salary no matter what the position be just that salary should be much higher than the first. I think the answer to your discussion is that for me it depends to what needs you have if you are a bread winner in the family you should search for a job that has higher in salary regardless of what type of work it would be. Even rank, because rank comes next if you have good standing at work. But if you were single and has no family member that depends on you then salary won't that too necessary because you will not think of anything but yourself. Lastly, of all the jobs I've been environment is a big effect to me. I can't work properly if my environment is not friendly or even not peaceful, I leave even if it takes having me no work.

You are absolutely correct. Without any children, one can consider herself/himself only, and I want to say that peaceful environment is a essence to working efficiently. I don't want to work in a office without work also, it is boring and degrading my ability. Thanks for the comment, ofzhernandez.

I agree with you, even if money is necessity today I still don't want to work in office or anywhere without work. Meaning just going to work and does nothing for 8 hours!! No offense to some government employees he he he. They got paid even if they are just playing around and doing nothing.

I decided a while ago that I wasn't going to dedicate my life to working for someone else. Now, if I want to work for someone else, it's for the money and that's pretty much it.

yep...same for me also. Money is also important but enjoying your life is also the top priority for everybody. Should have flexibility for the employee, not taking their overtime for the sake of own benefit.

Whenever I am looking for a job, the salary is one of the important things that I look at before I will decide whether or not to take a job. However, if the work environment is not going to be something that I would be able to enjoy, then I wouldn't be able to accept the job regardless of how good the pay is. You see, not only is how much money I'm making important to me, I also have to know that I will be comfortable with my new working environment.

All of the things you have mentioned are essential for me , and most probably to the rest who are seeking a job. I am a mother, so definitely, the salary should be enough to be able to help my husband in the everyday expenses in our home. Position or rank maybe not so much but I must be sure that it is a position that I am able to perform well. The type of work should be within my skills but I am more than willing to learn. What could be really annoying or can cause some problems if I was hired as a customer care representative and end up to be just making coffee for the bosses! Downright degrading my capabilities! Sorry, next job interview, here I come!

I'm really looking for a job I would enjoy. If I know a 100% that I would hate the job, I'm not going to accept it, whatever salary I'm gonna get. But I know that no one is going to have a perfect job, and I have to lower down my expectations...

That is the hardest part. Lower down your expectations, when you have a degree and have to work in different type of job. I know because I am also 100% hate that job, but I still go because of money, later after 2-3 months, I will resign and find another. It is more wise to find another than trying on the job I hate. Nice profile pic you have.

i take into consideration what you have sited in the discussion, but i weigh more on what i am able to do - the position and the job description and then the salary that goes along with in and of course the location of the company wher ei would work. i always prefer to find jobs where it is convenient for me and where i won't have a hard time communiting or travelling to and from home.

For me I look at the type of work, location, company's reputation, salary and position in that order. I would stay away if I know the environment is not peaceful.

When I was still single and had just graduated from college, it was really very important for me to have a good salary, and I worked hard to rise up the corporate ladder. Positions somewhat gives us a sense of fulfillment and a bit of prestige. An unfriendly environment wasn't something I consider. But all these changed when I got married and started a family. I wasn't that concerned about rank or position if it would only make me spend less time with my family. But I have to admit, a good salary is still a must :)

Hi. If I am to find a new job, it is of course for self-development where I want to spread my wings, but I have to think twice because I have great friends and colleagues in my team. There are office politics yes, but I still can handle it and the stress level in my current workplace now is manageable compares to my previous jobs. For a change of workplace, I would definitely be looking for the one which is the same level as my post now or higher. I work hard to get to this level and all the experiences that I have acquired would be useless if I start from scratch all over again. For a career swap, I don't mind all the trainings and rank and file post though. Having said that, I am not picky on the salary either. If it is a bit lower than what I am getting now, normally, I would ask the interviewer the possibility of salary increment. Based on my experience, I would consider great colleagues and management are the best criterias for good working environment. I left my previous workplace few years back because of bad management and there were no teamwork. Working with staff with attitude problems were stressful. I will leave if I find that I am not happy with the working environment and lost my enthusiasm of stepping into the building, but of course I must have a back up before I plan to resign.

When I had my first job after my retrenchment, I was just too happy to have it without regard for anything else. It was a long hour job. I only got paid 2/3 pf what I used to earn. But it was a job that paid. I just could not be jobless staying at home with no income. Gradually I got promoted and my salary was increased, and about 10 years later I resigned and joined another company in the same line but in another city. I was made the manager and then the senior manager when we expanded into a regional group of companies. I hated the long hours of the job (That is the norm in the trade) so when I was in a position to change, I made the working hours the same with other line of business so that we could attract better candidates to work for us. I am just thankful that I could bear the hardship of the job and make a career out of it to be what I am today. I know I could have been a lot worse.

With issues on unemployment and a rough economy, people don't have much of a choice when it comes to employment. As often the case, an individual would just grab an offer of employment just to gain earnings. I have friends who are college graduates and have to accept jobs for which they are over qualified. Perhaps, I would do the same if I were in their shoes since what seems more important right now is find employment.

I am self employed person and doing my own business, i am not interested in doing a job in an unfriendly environment, we need supporting friends and colleagues as well as good boss to do our work in a good manner, we don't do our job properly if we don't have a good friendly environment

I do have this kind of standard in finding jobs. I can't afford to have a job that it will not compensated my credentials. The salary should be fine, position will be earned as the years of performing excellent in a certain company.

For part-time work, I don't take issues of rank to be important. My main goal has always been to add the type of experience and expertise that will help me with my career goals. I also take into consideration that I will receive fair compensation and will be treated with respect. If the environment is not peaceful, I will do whatever I can to make changes. If not, I will try to spend less time with negative coworkers or ask about working from home part-time. My manager's job is to allow me to be as productive as possible. If the environment/compensation is not adequate, I will discuss this privately and help him brainstorm some solutions. I always strive to be the best employee so that I can have pride in myself/my company and be able to confidently ask for better conditions.
