Today,I read a story by chance. This is the gist of the story.
A woman in blue jeans went into an expensive shop and asked to see a dress. The assistant who served her did not like the way she was dressed. Glancing at her scornfully, he told her that the dress was sold. The woman walked out of the shop angrily and returned to the shop the following morning dressed in a fur coat, with a handbag in one hand and a long umbrella in the other. She seeked out that assistant and asked for the same dress. This time the assistant was very eager to serve her.
Mylotters, when I think of the real life,I find these kinds of assistants everywhere. What do you think about that? Do you judge people only by appearance?

such sort of assistants in a dress shop should be terminated, if I were the owner. as a businessman i need customers of course. and for me whether the customer is properly dressed or not, for as long as the customer wants to buy my products and willing and able to pay, they should be treated properly. even if the're just inquiring, even if they don't have the intention to buy. customers should be treated properly and with sincerity.

hi liuning19860719, welcome to mylot! hope to see you participate in more discussions!
hi HuaZhao, seems like you are the kind of person who judge base on outwardly. you marked liuning19860719's response as the best response just because he/she is a newbie here, and not because of the content of his/her response? LOL! anyway, i was just kidding, don't be angry.

Oh yes, we all know that there are many people who are prepared to judge someone on initial appearance. This makes no sense at all because that would suggest a manual worker on his way home would be less worthy than he would be after he had arrived home and changed his clothing.
It is unlikely that the situation will improve because this seems to be part of the nature of human beings, so we simply have to ignore it.

In my opinion, we cannot blame people in judging people by appearance because of what society does today. Here in our country, many people but not all who lives in the slums commits or involved in crimes like murder or hold-ups, so we cannot blame people if they see a poor looking man and avoid him because he might be a bad person. Good day

We say "Don't judge a book by it's cover" but not all of us live in that saying.

Both of us likes to consider a problem in a profect way, that based on the common feelings of people.while there's no people wanted to be treated unfair.
But in reality, there's no profect way to solve all kinds of questions.meet one need means miss another.sometimes attitude is a scarce resource, you need to conside with the economic efficiency, whether my pay will get a good result.especially for the assistant doing a long time.
so,i think,we should also conside the question in the other side, and find balance between them.

The woman in blue jeans might have been me, but I'm old enough that multiple body piercings and obvius tattoos register as an ignorant person who will regret their actions when they finally mature.

hi HuaZhao, i think i read this story before too. it was written in chinese if not mistaken. but the one i read mentioned that when the woman returned the next morning, she asked the assistant for many different dresses (just to cause the assistant some trouble as a revenge) before buying the dress that she wanted eventually.
for me, i don't judge people only by appearance, and in fact i do respect the poor ones. how about you?

We cannot judge any person from appearance because now rich person are committing crime and they looks like smart and good man but in real they are not good person. Now show off is more than real life so I think I cant judge to anyone only on appearance.

How awful that assistant is. Well it seems that most of the people nowadays are very choosy.Judging others with their appearance is very common. I think they must judge first their appearance before doing that to others. i hope not to encounter such terrible person in my way.

Some people look in appearance, but it should not be the case. We should take it as the basis for judging them. There is no perfect creation by God. Good day!

Hi Hua!
As far as a salesman at a shop or outlet is concerned, he should be concerned about sale of the products rather than the fact who is coming to buy it. Means he should be least concerned with the outfit or outwardly appearance because he has to fulfill certain targets. I think this is only a fiction and in real life salesman or saleswoman are smarter than the character mentioned in the story.

It's true that there are people judge someone else by their looks. Sad to say it but that is the reality in this world. We don't blame them to do such things but those people must not be act that way. Because we are all human being that have a feeling to be hurt.

HuaZhao, This happened 50 over years ago. The lady whose husband was a rich man. Once she walked into a beauty salon in a simple t-shirt and pants and took a seat. She waited for about 20 minutes, nobody attended to her. Off she stomped out. Two hours later she came with her chauffeur-driven Mercedes and dressed with taste. Immediately the doors was opened for her and she was ushered in. Drink was served. You know the difference, eh?

Appearance is deceptive. All that glitters is not gold. We have all heard this when we are in school. I heard a case in my country. There was an old man dressed in old working dirty farmer clothes with shoes laden with mud walked into a car showroom. He asked for quotation of a 2.0-liter car on the showroom from the salesman. But he saw a young dashing man dressed in style admiring the same car. He left the old man and attended to the younger man. Price was was quoted to the well-dressed man who then asked the old man. "Papa, Is the price okay?" " No problem, I'll pay cash."

Different folks with different strokes. This assistant doesn't know what he/she is going to face in the future. Good thing that this woman customer just dressed well the next day and brought her gangster friends to give this assistant a lesson. Dont judge the book by its cover. Read it first. lol
