What makes you lose sleep?

For me, anger makes me forget that I am sleepy and tired. When I am angry, this emotion is so powerful that I lose sleep. All I can think about is the source of anger. And unspoken words.
Another factor that makes me lose sleep is when I am sick. Or when I have cough or colds.
At present, I've been tossing all night and having a coughing fit. This made me mad 'coz I have to get up early for work, and I'm tired from working all day. What a combination.
How about you, what makes you lose sleep?

That's gonna be a long list. problems (includes past , present and future - I'm a worrywart you see), work, family, my new pet, chores, a good read or a good TV program (youtube is worst), that itching thing lately (fleas?) bills, annoying sounds, do want me to go on?

Losing the much needed sleep could be caused by too much thinking or just plainly too tired and exhausted. When I am sick, I tend to sleep but not too much coz it will cause me a headache afterwards.

They say one should never sleep after an attack of anger or such an outburst.SOmetimes we get keyed up and can't sleep. Writing it all down sometimes helps to get the anger out if you haven't been able to talk to who ever has made you angry. And if coughing is the problem a nice cup of hot camomile tea with alittle honey will sooth the throat and help you to sleep. Stress is what gets me.

Thank you for the suggestion. :) Yes, writing it down lessens the stress. In my case, opening up on myLot helps. :) I hate it when I get angry before I go to sleep because it means, goodbye sleepiness. It will take me hours before I feel sleepy again. :(

you are so right that our lack of sleep is due to the some thinking or sickness. when i think alot i do not feel sleepy because the mind is busy thinking. I hope you get sleep now because lack of sleep will make you more sick. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful day ahead..

This may seem a little mundane but coffee keeps me awake at night, unless I go for the decaf variety. Watching an exciting or scarey movie also keeps me awake, I don't find myself thinking about it but my adrenalin is pumping I guess. Problems are the worse thing because I try to work out a solution and if that doesn't come then neither does a good night's sleep.
As for anger, we are told not to let the sun go down on our wrath in the Bible. It's certainly sound advice and it does help if during that before bed time drink, to endeavour to forgive and forget and go to bed with a peaceful mind.

Three things prevent me sleep, thinking a lot, colds accompanied by cough, which have been a factor in lack of sleep, as well as eating right before bedtime, especially if large quantities.

For me, most of the time it's problems, of course that is aside from my sleeping disorder which I liked to believe as just insomnia. Whenever I have problems that I need to face or solve I can't get to sleep. Another thing that would keep me awake is when I have a bunch of ideas running through my head. Mostly they are plans for tomorrow or the days to come. I seem to get so excited and maybe my adrenaline gets pumped up, so I couldn't feel sleepy at all.

I lose my will to sleep if an earthquake has just happened. I am afraid of having aftershocks. Another is when there is a thief trying to get in our place. It will be a sleepless night waiting for them to come back. Another is after watching a horror or comedy movies. My mind and body are so alive that sleeping is quite impossible. Lastly, myLot. It's making me awake til 2 to 3am in the morning. LOL. Thanks for sharing and happy mylotting.

Thanks a ton for sharing this discussion. Well for me staying online at night for some hours gets me sleep. It is because my body gets weak while trying to stay awake at night. Besides when i get sick i cannot for long to stay awake at night, i get sleep automatically during such conditions. But i think it is not advisable to stay awake at night for longer hours as it will affect our health adversely. I always try to get myself sleep at the earliest.
What say?

I always try to sleep early, but at times cant make it since too many thought run in my mind & I keep on responding to them the way I want which hardly happens in reality. Best thing is if you can spend some time meditating to control your anger before sleep & can chew a small peice of raw ginger to get rid of your cough if possible.

I frequently stay awake too long -tossing and turning - not just because I am angry at a particular person, but because I feel guilty about my anger and am trying to do justice to the other person's point of view, as well. I think that having a much more black and white viewpoint would help me sleep better!
Much more mundane reasons are all about caffeine. If I drink two cups of coffee after 2:00 PM, I absolutely cannot sleep, no matter how long I lie there in the dark, until about 4:00 AM. The one advantage to this is that I have really creative ideas I make sure to record before go to bed.

For me it is worrying about my kids. One is grown and married but I still worry about her and whether she's making the right decisions and if she's happy or if my granddaughter is happy. I worry about my son because he is a senior and has a lot of big decisions to make. Sometimes my brain just won't be quiet and let me sleep! Normally pray or start thinking of all the things I'm thankful for and that helps calm my mind.
I also hate it when I know I have something big the next day and I need to get a good night's sleep and this causes me not to sleep well. I worry about sleeping which causes me not to sleep!

I think stress can make me lose sleep...whenever I am thinking of something which I think is so hard for me to do, I find it hard to sleep and just think of the possible consequences that might happened because of it...

First, you should really not go to work sick. You are just creating a cycle that will eventually get back to you. Depending on your nature of work, I would try to work from home for the day so you still get paid and just submit a report with the time of each thing you did.
Anger is definitely an emotion that takes away sleep. Also being online and on my cell phone will delay me getting to sleep because I am exposing myself to blue light and you require darkness or low lighting to help the melatonin to be naturally released within you.

I agree with you that anger makes me lose sleep. Also when I'm stressing about different problems or all that has to be done around the house that really frustrates me and causes me to not be able to sleep. It's nice when I'm able to get a descent night's rest. That doesn't happen to often now because my husband and daughter both have colds.

I can't sleep when my bronchopneumonia attacks. When I am sick, the side effect is I can't sleep maybe due to medications or sometimes, I was so worried about being sick.
Another is when I am thinking so much especially when my family is experiencing a problem. I can't sleep and usually get depress.

I sleep by reading a few pages in a book each night. It seems to help me go right to sleep. Hope you are having a great week there.
