This story is in the news right now. This story is about an Indian Women who died in Ireland.Reason of death is the Doctors refused to abort her child on the pretext of religion. If medical care had been given the woman would have survived. This is sheer neglect of human rights. What is more important for the doctors ..the human or his religion?Massive outrage in Ireland and India.Agreed the religion is against abortion but the Ireland supreme court has passed a law stating that if the mother is in mortal danger, abortion should be carried out.So what happened. What about the basic right of a human to live?????

I would like to see the article. I do feel that if i the baby was in the fallopian tube, then the mother's life is in danger and they have to remove the fallopian tube. Even in religions that forbid abortion, this rule still applies. I was wondering if this was not the case, why the doctor did not perform a caesarean so the baby would have had a chance even if it may have been a couple of hours.
I am for saving both the mother and child. So did the mother request an abortion? I do know that there is a law against gender abortion and that could have been the reason, but as I said first, I would like to see the article.

I found it up and it was terrible. If she was having a miscarriage, they could have easily given her a caesarean. The baby might not have lived long considering the time, but I do hear that if the water broke there would be a chance of the mother dying. I think the problem was that she requested an abortion and that got the doctors suspicious. If she had said that she was having a miscarriage, then they would have let it continue or deliver the baby faster.

The doctor did not fulfill his obligation to save a dying woman... which i think is unfortunate... i know for a fact that if both the baby's and mother's lives are at risk... the latter is always the priority...
This is what i can conclude base on your discussion... i hope i know if the fetus is in the 1st, 2nd or 3rd trimester... what was ailing the mother and if the doctor was sanctioned for what he/she did...

It is a real horrible story. The lady had a miscarriage and the baby was anyhow going to die. But just because the hearbeat had not stopped, the Irish doctors refused to abort and allowed a lady to die!! This is really crazy. I think first of all the law is antiquated and secondly the doctors who have cited the law and allowed a human to die are really not fit to continue as doctors because the profession of a doctor is to save lives. They need to take the best interest of the patient in mind when they deal with such a situation. Now I want to see the reaction of the Irish government, but even if it reacts now it is too late for Savita's family!!

Hi,
It is very horrible story. Doctors are considered to be second God as they save human life. but here this doctor behaved against the rule of the profession. Savita lost her life for the sake of only religious faith. Religions always teach us to behave with humanity.
