One of my cats loves to get on top of my refrigerator and I have a couple of plants up there and other things that I can't find a place for. I always know when he's snuck up there because I will hear something fall in the kitchen. He's a very big cat and the only way I can get him down is by squirting him with water which I hate to do. I've read that putting aluminum foil around plant pots will keep cats away but that's not really the case because it hasn't stopped him. I'm trying to find places to put the things up there somewhere else but I live in a small apartment and don't know where to put them. Does anyone else have a cat that likes to be on top of the refrigerator? What can I do to stop him?

Your cat loves the warmth on top of your refrigerator even if he knows that you don't like him sleeping there. I think cats are naughty by nature. From my experience they love doing things that pisses you off. We had a cat before that pee anywhere! One time I was sitting on a plastic chair when all of a sudden I felt my hips dampen with something warm. When I look to my left side I saw him peeing beside me! My father laughed so hard because of how naughty our cat was. Then another cat of ours loves to roll on something that smells like poo and garbage so my dad's wife always give him a bath but before the day is up he's stinky again.

Recently moved to live with my sisters and they have 3 cats named Sunshine, Kitty and Kitten. Ever since I was small, I love to be with cats but cannot comprehend why mom won't allow me to keep them as pets. Reality hits me hard when I started living with them.
Yes, they do go and stay on a lot of places inside the house. On top of the ref, fine! On top of my bed and newly-iron clothes, fine! But inside garbage cans?! Even on top of the kitty litter that is filled with pee and poop (pardon me)! I tried shooing them, pat their butts with slippers. Alas, nothing works!
Cats will always be cats! You can either love them or hate them as they are. No halves. If you don't want things to be knocked off from on top of the refrigerator, then move them elsewhere safe. If that is the only problem with your cat, then consider yourself lucky. Very lucky!

My cats love the plants, and the dirt especially Patches will pee in them for some reason. We had a big problem with this when she was a kitten. We took plastic lids and cut a hole so the plant can come out, but they cant get in, they havent touched them since. I personally wouldnt use aluminum foil as they can eat it, causing problems and a giant vet bill or worse.

Hi friend, i think your cat is really very crazy and interested in doing funny things, good to hear about this. We don't have cats in our house and never experienced this in our life.

Hello again, ctrynny. It is nice to read something about this big cat of yours, which loves to jump onto the top of your refrigerator to snuggle. I do not have a cat of mine except those wild cats downstairs, which always snuggle on my electrical bikes, ruining our seats. To stop them from ruining my leather seat, I tried to cover it with a tower or old T-shirt, but it does not always work because later I find that it is removed to one side by the cats. I cannot find a better way.

Your cat knows a softie when he sees one - you have to toughen up with that squirting bottle. Perhaps it would help to remove the plant, it might be the attraction. If that doesn't work then a quick squirt will do the trick, it works with all my dogs except one who simply closes her eyes. But cats have their dignity to consider and I doubt that you will have to squirt more than once, they are intelligent animals and you must not let them outwit you.
If it is so painful to squirt them then perhaps you could reward after the squirt with something the cat likes to eat. It would ease your conscience and encourage the cat to be obedient. Wishing you well...

My cat has always loved the top of the refrigerator. Maybe because I had a dog at one time and that was a place the dog couldn't go. It could be because I keep my house really cool and the top of the refrigerator puts off some warmth. I allow my cat that freedom. I will discipline my cat with a squirt from the water bottle, though, for jumping upon the counter in the kitchen or the table. My cat learned very quickly that those places were never allowed. I have seen on TV where people put sticky tape to prevent the cat from jumping onto a counter. I don't know if that would work or not. The water bottle trained my Tanuki and she sees the bottle and stops in her tracks.

Cats are silly sometimes and stubborn but they so adorable
specially when they are playing with you or just want to cuddle.
I remember when I was a kid when our cat gaves birth but my
mom, she don't like them and asked me to put them away where
they are visible so anyone could just pick them and adopt, I was
crying so much, when a neighbor saw me, she asked me why, I said
i pitty the kittens.. it really broke my heart way back then..
