Duct tape has great potential in everyday life

I was just watching Mythbusters on Netflix. They made a sail boat with duct tape and actually sailed it. It's really strong stuff. I used it once to hold a brake light in place. It worked great until I had a new one installed. I used duct tape once to remove leg hair. It works one time. You can't use the same piece more than once cause of the skin cells and body oil that collects on the stick surface on the skin. If you have used duct tape in unusual ways, please share what you did. Thanks in advance.

I have used duct tape for many things! I have hemmed pants with them when I was in a hurry, covered splintery broom handles, held together a vacuum cleaner and taped wires to the floor to keep them out of the way, among other things. I lived in a place that had a bad wall behind the shower, so I took duct tape and made a pattern with it to cover the worst areas. It held for a very long time and looked kind of cool. I also used it to repair the holes in a shower curtain. To keep it from looking tacky, I put duct tape the entire length of the top of the shower curtain then poked holes in it for the hangers.

I've also hemmed clothes with it. Oh that is a good idea to cover a wooden broom handle! I'll have to remember that one if mine gets that way. Thanks for the idea.

I used to write a column about frugal living and some of the readers would send in their ideas. Another one was to cover worn kitchen chairs with them to make new seats. I did that once with electrical tape because the chair seats were black. It worked pretty good.

We use duct tape around here all the time. I used it when I bought Max & Gizmooe`s cage was damages (it was cheapier), so I taped up the piece that is broken. Once in high school I got a hole in my pants, so a friend ducted tape it up until I got home.

Oh yes! I've done that too with a rip in my blouse. I've also used duct tape to fix my hem in my shirt when it started coming out.

I have seen like four episodes of Mythbusters where they focus on duct tape. I love those episodes. One use they never went over, probably because it would take too long and it's kind of gross. You can put it on a wart and it will go away. You have to change the duct tape every day, and take it off before you shower, but eventually it will come off completely. Never tried it personally though.

I haven't heard about taking off warts with it. I can imagine that it would pull off layers of cells each day.

Duct tape. An incredible product. I saw on a website once where a woman's son - maybe 12 or 13yo - made wallets out of duct tape and sold them. The woman was calling it "duck" tape and other people were telling her she was wrong, that it was "duct" tape. Finally she told them it was Duck Brand duct tape. It comes in almost any color you can imagine and patterns, too. Their site is www.duckbrand.com I used regular duct tape once to tape up the hem on a pair of slacks. I saw a video (maybe youtube or America's Funniest Videos) where a woman used it it as a hair remover on her husband's chest! Ouch! The look on his face as she yanked off the tape was pretty funny. And people make and sell all kinds of stuff with it. Instructables.com has a lot of directions for making things and this is a pretty good site as well www.ducttapeguys.com They have a page with the history of duct tape. It's all very interesting. I use to watch Mythbusters all the time but must have missed that episode. Years ago I gave a friend a Duct Tape Kit for Christmas that I found in a catalog. It was a red plastic tool box with a roll of duct tape and a little booklet of instructions inside. Now they have wallet kits and other stuff you can get. Good topic for discussion!

Wow! I didn't know they had it in patterns. I have seen yellow duct tape before. I've used it for hemming too.

I think Duck Brand is having a contest for a new design/pattern on their tape. If you win it's $5000. I saw one of their patterns that is black & white. The tape is white with handlebar mustaches in black as the pattern. They also have glow-in-the-dark tape. And spider web, zebra stripe and plaid patterns/prints. It's all really great stuff.

I remember once they made a hammock and also covered an airplane with it. It was a fiber skinned plane that got new skin from duct tape. It was airworthy too!

you can use silver duct tape to get rid of warts. Use a small a piece of duct tape as you can that will stick to and cover the wart. Leave the duct tape on for six days. On the seventh day, take off the duct tape and soak the area in warm water. Scrape the skin with a nail file or pumice stone and then use a new piece of tape on the wart the next morning.
Repeat Steps and do the process for two months. If after two months, you still have a problem with the wart, see your doctor for other remedies.

Great idea for removing warts. I think it's the same idea that those wart pads on the market do. You would save money by using duct tape.

I've only used the duct tape in the usual ways, but not with my daughter. She has a little duct tape in her school bag and brought it everyday to school. She used it to mark her sandwich box, she said I don't have to buy a fancy sticker for her stuffs because none of her friends use duct tape like her. She also use it at the edge of her books to keep them from splitting.

Well we have used it on duct work to seal in any spaces for the heating and air conditioning units.
I did use a roll of duct tape when we moved because I ran out of packing tape. That didn't work too well. With the heat of the south the tape didn't hold up on cardboard. Made it hard to move the boxes without a tight seal.
Can't think of anything else. It isn't something that I would even think to take out of the tool area to use myself.

We keep a couple rolls around all the time. It always sticks good for us, but you can't untapped and restick it. It won't hold up them.

We always have a roll or two around too. Mostly for my husband and anything that needs fixing on his end. It does stick well and you're right, it doesn't restick if you have to pull it up and back again to make adjustments. It isn't good on cardboard but great on just about any other material.
I read somewhere someone actually made clothes with duct tape. They didn't look appealing at all and had to be uncomfortable to wear. Can't imagine wearing something made with duct tape.

I used duct tape on my cousins lap top charger to hold the wires together. It worked amazing until the wires burnt completely out so we had to order a new one.

Ok we have used it quite a bit around the house but the two that stand out the most is using it to replace or repair the nylon webbing in the outside fold up chairs. Keith has used it when he has gotten cuts on his fingers to stop the bleeding (especially when he is at work). The duct tape holds the skin together and he does not have to worry about it coming off like a regular bandaid would. Repairing one of Lil Keith's block buckets. It chipped at the top and had a jagged edge. Keith smoothed it out with duct tape. There are lots more uses but I cannot remember all of the things he has done with it.

It comes with different colors and sizes but the common color for it is grey or silver...
