I have a laptop that has an expiring antivirus. Right now i have Kaspersky installed but i'm trying to find out the best free antivirus. One that can give good protection and doesn't eat much space in the memory. Any advice about proper management of the software and laptop would be appreciated. ^_^

There are several free antivirus programs available and it is not easy to compare them unless you have actually tried them all, which I doubt if many people would do. I personally use Avast and have been using it now for several years without any issues.
I was a great fan of Norton antivirus for a long time, but it gradually started requiring more system resources and became more trouble than it was worth, so I changed to Avast and have had no reason to regret the decision.

No, it is not a paid subscription but a totally free program. Avast is free for any individual but not for companies.
It does have to have a registration code which is updated every year, but there is no cost involved. I simply downloaded the program from their site and installed it, then returned to the site and registered. They sent me an email with a registration code for 12 months, which I installed and the program was licensed. After 12 months I simply register again, which can be done via a link in Avast and receive another 12 months licence.
I have not tried Avira, but it seems to have a good reputation so it should be a reasonable choice. After all, the benefit of using free programs is that if you are not satisfied with it you can simply uninstall it and choose another, with no loss of money involved.

Oh okay, now I know. But I think the one you have is the paid subscription right? I'm gonna go for avira free though because a lot of my friends advised me to take that one. But thanks for the info. :)

I use AVG Free 2013 as antivirus. But to be sure, you might also want to consider downloading SuperAntiSpyware Free and Malwarebytes AntiMalware. Regular scanning with the latter two programs should keep your computer real safe.

If you're running a genuine copy of windows then go for Microsoft Security Essentials or otherwise get Avast!Home Edition. Both are free, simple to install and easy to use.

I have tried many antivirus in my day to day computer use. I have even tried mc afee as well as norton. But what impressed me so much is avira. So and so that I have replace my desktop at home and my laptop with avira. Another good thing about it is that it is very light and its free. It will not slow down your computer.

The software I use to keep my computer working is the free antivirus from avast and the little software ccleaner that i use mostly to clean up the registry. I find avast really good! Better than antivir from avira and also easier on the computer's performance! You should check it out, I don't think I will pay ever for an antivirus since this completely covers me!

I have a laptop and i have always used AVG free edition and i have never had any problems with that so thats one that i would definatly recommend. If you look on the review sites a lot of them recommend Kaspersky as one of the best anti-virus, my friend also uses it and says its good.

Hi friend, Security and virus protection is very important for our system, to keep our important data in a safe manner. Never allow your computer to be affected with unwanted virus, always keep a good anti virus software program in your system as well as update your virus software frequently to get good protection from unwanted threats and virus. A computer which is affected with virus will slow down at the beginning after that we will face some unwanted issues due to virus affection. Always give importance to your system security.
Now i am using kaspersky anti virus licensed version, the license will end by the coming December. Some of my friends suggested me to use avast Anti virus after the expiration of kaspersky, because avast is available at free as well as give the best virus protection like kaspersky, so i planned to download avast in my system.
Last year i bought my new pc at December and the shop keeper suggested me to buy kaspersky antivirus licensed version to protect the system, so i bought it, now the 1 year license will expire soon, so i am in need to download new virus software, i planned to use AVG anti virus, but some of my friends told that using Avast will give more protection than AVG as well as downloading avast is fast and secure compared to avg and it will give more protection without any cost.
Now i planned to download the Avast free version in my computer to protect it, I used avast in my old system and it gives a best protection to me, so i planned to use it again. In my opinion downloading free version of a good anti virus program is better than buying an anti virus program. Avast and AVG will give best protection to us.

I recommend Unthreat Antivirus. After using quite a few antiviruses I found Unthreat and I'm sticking with it because it doesn't slow down my computer while it's running. I also haven't had a virus since I started using it so it's definitely doing its job! Here's the link if you want to check it out www.unthreat.com
