It's a case of "Look who's talking" because if you listen to her, just watch the video clip on YouTube, you will hear her very thick Korean accent even when she tries to give her best American accent. This Korean actress was mimicking the way Filipinos are supposed to speak English and the way she did it was so insulting because we do not speak English that way. I wonder where she heard that kind of thick accent. Probably there are a handful Filipinos who speak that way, but generally, I can proudly say that we can speak English with almost close-to-perfect American accent. No kidding, this actress has to get her facts straight before coming on air. She is clearly ignorant of the the truth.

I saw this a couple of months ago and yes, just tonight it's making it's rounds on facebook again. Well, I used to like her but not anymore. The only way she can speak English is because she lived in Australia for 5 years (yep, i did research on that Korean actress and it's not that impressive). And the way she did the Filipino accent is really not acceptable! That is how most Chinese speak English, for heaven's sake!
Didn't she know that a lot of her fellow Koreans come to the Philippines to study? Others even pay for hundred thousands of won just to get an hour of English tutorial from Filipinos online!
And most of Filipinos can converse and understand English. I bet not even half of their population can speak an English sentence correctly! Nor understand one.

This doesnt really seem fair because in my experiance there is a lot of Korean people who are trying to learn English. English is one of the hardest languages to learn because of all of the slang words. I think that its wrong because if good honest people are trying to better themselves they should not be insulted for it.

Thank you. I think that its wrong when people are judged on sterotypes people should be respected and judged on who they are. Also the actor shouldnt really knock anybody when they are trying to better themselves by learning a new language. If people are trying to learn a new language then this is z good thing and should be encouraged. If this actor is famous and she is in the public eye then she should definitely be trying to encourage people.

I have not seen the clip but why would she criticize someone English , I mean we all speak different language and have different accent that should never be something to be ashamed of .
Some English speakers can not speak any other language so why do people make it such a big deal if others cant speak English .
Perfect English would be close to British and I speak English but that's not my accent , I dont want a American are British accent .
Our accent tell a story of where we are from , and there are variety of English accent not just American .

I've seen that video clip maybe two years ago. I didn't agree with her accent that time. It was far from the way we speak. LOL. Yeah before coming on air she should get some info. Maybe, should have stayed in the Philippines and did her research first. That's really embarrassing and annoying. I guess she lost many of her fans in the Philippines. Thanks for sharing and happy mylotting.

Maybe, it's still circulating until now. Yes, she really hurt our feelings. I hope before she makes fun of others, she should polish her own speaking skills too. Thanks for the comment. :)

bwahahaha that is her way of showing of being ignorant! Not being racist or insulting anyone here but we all know filipinos has the best tongue they can learn and speak any language they want clearly and fluenty. I saw that video long time ago and she have a brick wall thick accent! Hahaha she's not born and rise in the US I bet and she'll gonna have that accent no matter what. It might not come one everyday or every single time that she speak English but it will come out. I have a filipino friends around Naval and Air Force base who speak American accent English and really amazing. My other Filipino friend was born and rise in Philippines can speak 5-7 language fluently she speak Japanese language like a native japanese, she speak german like native ones, she speak spanish and of course English like an American. This thread reminded me of Luci Liu too who is being racist that she doesn't want to have a brown skin cuz she gonna be look like filipinoSay what? She'll definitely won't be look like filipino if she have brown skin but I bet she'll be look like Thai!

That's I just said. She can't be possibly look like Filipino. That's why they always bring that up simply because they have lack of knowledge on how good you guys are in foreign languages

I don't really know what video that is. I'm not really into thos kind of things. They can say whatever they want. It will all go back to them twice or thrice fold anyways. Haha! Filipinos are good in English but I don't think it is something we should brag about. Instead, I think it is much better to focus more on our languages. By languages, I include there Cebuano language, Kapampangan, etc. There's really a lot.

Isn't that what our schools are doing now? Teaching the mother tongue? We're not really bragging to be good in English, but we're just trying to give the truth in relation to the insult done by this Korean actress. You can go and watch it on YouTube.

it is more than her problem than yours. it is advisable not to let yourself be swayed by nationalist pride. there is no accent that is superior than others. english is a global language. the aim of any language is to be understood by others. let her criticize the way other people speak because she does not know what she is talking about. she will appear more stupid if she does not apologize.

Hello there,
I also do not agree to people insulting other people because of their "little" mistakes.
It is true that their are parts of the Philippines with thick accent when they speak English but a majority speak good English be it British or American accent.
Let this lady know that Philippines had surpassed I$#@a when it comes to call center jobs because Filipinos sound almost a native speaker.
For one thing, this lady despise Filipino accent when their are many Koreans studying in the Philippines
Oh common!

It seems like they are making fun of the Filipino accent. But I think other foreigners still admire that. Filipino has this certain accent when speaking in English but at least it is understandable and well, I can say acceptable. Probably its the same with some Filipinos making fun of Indian accent but we don't really mean to insult them as they are also good in speaking in English.

Some foreigner do feel superior over Filipinos. And maybe, she is one of them. I find it funny that they could insult us that way, when we are better in speaking the English language than any other Asian country.

I just don't see how our English should be that of the Koreans. Everyone has their accents and it depends on how understandable one could be even if he or she speaks English in a manner that is quite... I don't know how to say it barock english? There might be some good english speaking persons who really don't know what they are talking about. And then there are some that need actions when they talk English so people might get their point. I once got to the airport to meet a Korean whom I do business with. I tried to learn some Korean Language but then I said to myself, if I talk Korean he might get too comfortable thinking I know his Language. So I just did go with the flow trying to speak English in a manner he can understand. He understands me but the thing is I cannot understand him. It was like a multiple choice questionnaire everytime we talk but a person learns. Good thing he had his wife on the phone who could speak English and Korean.
One thing that I say when I see such kind of videos over the Internet is very simple, it just shows that we need to get better. Look at how the movie BORAT on how it ridiculed Kazakhstan. Look at where Kazakhstan is now. Rather than trying to make some negative noijse about it, lets just use it as a force to make ourselves better.

I didn't seen it yet, but that actress is insultingly ignorant. Indeed Filipinos is one of the best in terms English aside from American etc. Maybe she just being proud of herself but it's too much, and she foot treading us. How dare her. grr :)

I heard about this news, I had been teaching English language to Koreans but it is really difficult to teach them. Besides, that is the sign of insecurity against Filipinos. They must admit that our English usage is better than them.

I think she should look at her country first before doing that. A lot of koreans came here to learn their english. Besides filipino, english is our second language. It doesn't matter of the accent. As long as you know how to speak english then that is. There are many variations of englishg language with pertains to accent thing. Well goodluck to her.
