Why do we cry when we are sad or hurt?

For us, it is a way in order to express emotions. Researches that have been done on emotional tears in the past suggest that when a person cries, tears carry with them all the stressful chemicals in the body. Emotional tears have high levels of manganese and prolactin hormones. When these chemicals are shed along with tears, the person feels that his stress level has come down. And thus, it makes him feel better. That's the reason why we cry when we feel sad or hurt, because it makes us feel better.

Oh, thanks for this info. Yeah when I cry, I feel much comfortable after crying. Voicing out my feelings while crying makes my burdens become lighter. Welcome to myLot akhaniemar!

Oh, you're welcome. Remember, there's no danger in crying. You have to let your burdens or stress out. I hope you have a worry-free life. See you around.

There are plenty of reasons why our eyes do cry.. not only if we are said. It also can happen with strong wind blowing in the eyes, if you cut an onion, if you laugh out loud, as a result of allergies, etc. Also there are plenty of people who do feel sad or hurt and are not crying at all. This doesn't mean that the one who is crying easily feels more sad or hurt as the one who doesn't. BTW crying is also not making everybody feel better. It never worked for me for example. If you start a discussion bring up some own experiences, what you observed or what your mind keeps busy. Not a copy from some info you found somewhere.
