My daughter is sick

Philippines

My daughter has had fever on-and-off for a week now. Missed school from Wednesday to Friday last week. She was totally okay by Saturday afternoon and so we had her report back on Monday morning. Then she got sick again that afternoon and all day today. She doesn't have any rashes. She eats (though slower in pace and not really opting for healthy choices) and is still relatively happy. My husband and I have been busy all week managing her fever with regular washes, liquids, and the usual paracetamol. Please join us in praying for our baby girl, that she may get well already. Thank you!

yeah....my hubby and i have decided that if she still has a fever by tomorrow (that would be more than a week since it started), then we will take her to the hospital to get checked. i know we do not know each other on a personal level, but really...thank you for including my daughter in your prayers...

Prayers for your precious child. She may have allergies? I don't know how old she is, but when my daughter was in kindergarten (five years old) she was unable to continue in school because the environment of the classroom made her ill. She had respiratroy type illness with her allergies.

She's now 4 and a half years old and in preschool. It turns out, after she was checked by her pediatrician, and was made to undergo a series of lab tests, my daughter had urinary tract infection. You see, she is a late enrollee (school here starts in June), and just started attending classes in November (she has mild autism disorder and so we had to wait for her developmental pediatrician's go-signal for her to attend school). I guess what happened was, because she was having all this fun in school, she rather play and not go to the potty. She is fully potty-trained, mind you. Anyway, to cut the story short, the prescribed antibiotics worked almost instantly on her! And I am so very happy now because she's back to being my happy and both naughty-and-nice little girl ! Thank you really for your prayers! I'm sorry that it took me a week or so before I could respond to each and every one of you here. But I know for a fact that you all understand that I needed to tend to my daughter first. By the way, how is your daughter now? How old is she now? Have her allergies disappeared by this time? I really hope so. Godspeed to you and yours!

Yes, she is older now and seems to have outgrown a lot of the allergies or has developed a tolerance. She is back in school and hasn't had a lot of absences due to health.

I know...and I agree...I should have consulted with my doctor as soon as possible. I cannot really believe that I allowed it to go as long as 2 weeks. I'm just happy that she is fine now. And I know that she forgives me, for she gives me nothing but love and endless smiles. Thank you, anil02!

You should go to a doctor to see her and to find out the cause of the fever. Find a good doctor or better an alternative medicine practitioner. Have you read what is said about paracetamol? In fact fever is a way the immune system responds to intruders. It's a sign of the fight in our body that's why medicine for fever is not a solution. But you can make her feel better with traditional ways of lowering fever: warm tea, vitamin C from fruits, rest and poultice with cold water and vinegar.

Thank you @ladydd for all your suggestions. As of date, my daughter has fully recovered from her 2-week bout with high fever. She was given antibiotics, and we are following that up with proper diet and much needed vitamins and supplements.

I hope she gets better soon. But have you sent her to a doctor. Unusual rise of temperature for more than 3 days needs medical attention. She might be needing antibioitics for it due to some factor like cough or colds.

Good thing that she only had mild symptoms of the urinary tract infection. I had 2 bad cases of that infection for the last 6 years. The first incident was I had blood in my urine, as I couldn't almost bear the pain. I had to take a really strong medicine to make me feel better. The second incident was last year. I had chills for almost 3 days. It was the worst thing I have ever felt. I am glad your daughter is fine now! Keep safe, too!

All is well and my daughter has now reported back to school! But you know what is so weird about this whole experience? Finding out nothing about what infection exactly hit her. We went to her pedia, who told us that my daughter's eyes, ears, nose, throat, and lungs were all clean and clear. She referred us to the hospital lab for blood count, urinalysis, and blood culture. The first 2 tests showed high-normal results, meaning everything was normal except near the borderline. Nevertheless, my daughter was prescribed antibiotics that target urinary tract infection. The blood culture results took a little while to come about, but it was required because my daughter's 2-week bout with high fever showed the symptoms for typhoid fever. But when the results finally came after 3 days, it showed nothing. Deep in my heart, I rather it showed nothing than it being positive for typhoid, right? I am convinced and really believe that God answered my prayers in this aspect. So thank God indeed! And thank you for your moral support!

You should see a doctor for further evaluation.Intermittent fever is maybe a sign of underlying disease. Laboratories procedures is a big help to determine the cause of that fever. Praying for your daughter.

Yes, we did as you and everyone instructed and advised. And because of that, my daughter was required to undergo tests, eventually prescribed antibiotics, properly treated, and is now up and about. Those 2 weeks were a nightmare for everyone here in our household! But that is now a thing of the past. Thank you...really...for your prayers! Could not have done it without all your moral support!

How old is your daughter? Dengue is everywhere nowadays so please let her check by a doctor. Too much of fluid is necessary too.

Hi @jenith! She is now 4 and a half years old. But no, she didn't have dengue. It turned out to be a case of urinary tract infection. She just finished taking her antibiotics yesterday. All is well now....whew! We continue to give her fluids and monitor her visits to the bathroom.

I know! It hurts like hell seeing your child in pain! It even more painful for moms like me! Plus, my child has autism disorder and cannot yet fully express how she is feeling inside. It's really hard not to worry. But like all weather calamities, the storm soon passed and now my little one is A-okay! Those 2-horrible-weeks is now over and done with. Thank goodness! Thank you for your moral support. I'm truly grateful!

Thanks for opening the topic. Please seek medical advice from a doctor as soon as possible. Although i may not know her age but if she's still a baby, check her teeth. Maybe a tooth is starting to grow and that also causes fever. If you're living in a tropical country, please do check a CBC count just to be sure. I'm sure this would be 1 of the tests that the doctor would ask you to do.

Hey @tomdawg24! Are you, by chance, a doctor or some sort of medical practitioner? Because you do sound like one. Either that, or you are simply a seasoned parent. I, on the other hand, look really "amateurish". My daughter is an only child. She has mild autism disorder and so it is really hard for her to express how she feels. She is actually already 4 and half years old. She has a complete set of milk teeth, and so we know it wasn't because she was growing new milk teeth (too early for permanent teeth too). Upon the advice of many friends, both on- and off-line, we took her to her pediatrician, who checked her up and confirmed that it wasn't because of colds or cough because my daughter's eyes, ears, nose, throat, and lungs were all clear. Her CBC and urinalysis showed high normal results - normal but borderline, and so just to be sure, she was given antibiotics for urinary tract infection (UTI). Her last fever was at dawn of the following day, Friday last week. Aside from the CBC and urinalysis, my daughter also did a blood culture test, to check for typhoid fever. The doctor informed us Sunday last week that the tests showed nothing. Thank God! Anyway, I just wanted to say how tiring, weird, and toxic that week was for us. And how I am really super-duper glad that all that is now over. My daughter is back to being an active and happy little toddler again!

You have not mentioned the age of your daughter. It is better to include a bit of black pepper, ginger, cumin, oregano in her daily diet. These add to taste and also help improve immunity in the young ones. During periods of ill-health, avoid heavier foods like cheese, non-veg etc. Clear soup is more advisable - as many times as she might like it. Prayer provides for the mind's well being. We too pray for the health of the baby.

I think it would be better if you bring her to the hospital or to a private physician. I'm sure the Dr. would order for CBC and urinalysis to help find out the real cause of it. paracetamol and tepid sponge bath would only help to lessen the hot feeling brought by fever. Nevertheless, try to be observant on possible occurrence of abdominal pain and joint pains which are indications of dengue fever.

Hi kabz_peg! Those were exactly what her pediatrician ordered...but with the addition of a blood culture exam. The latter one was required because my daughter's fever pattern (on-and-off the first week, then continuous high fever the following week) showed the same symptoms as that of typhoid fever. Her eyes, ears, nose throat, and lungs were all clear. Dengue was ruled out earlier on. Eventually, the results showed both CBC and urinalysis to be on the high normal levels -- meaning normal but borderline, not really enough to suggest a concrete urinary tract infection, but they treated and gave her antibiotics for it just the same to be on the safe side. Her last fever was at dawn of Friday, just 8 hours after the 1st dosage. She has been fever-free since. By Sunday, her blood culture tests showed nothing. It was really weird! But good enough for me. For if my daughter still had fever by that time, then our doctor would have required us to admit my kid in the hospital for more testing and treatment. Thank goodness that we didn't have to go through all that...again! My daughter has been confined for food intolerance when she was just a year old. And for Roseola when she was 2. Oh well! The pains of parenthood, huh? I am just really happy that our 2-week ordeal is over and done with.

I will definitely say a prayer for her. I hope she gets better! This is sad to hear. I do not like hearing of children being sick. The power of prayer is what will heal your baby girl. Do not worry and just trust in God and everything will be okay. Definitely keep her hydrated! She may end up needing to go to the hospital and getting an IV. This is what helps me when I am very sick.

I know, right?! I am the same way. I feel so weak seeing sick kids. Breaks my heart every time. It's even double the heartache when it is my own child, my only child, who just happens to have mild autism spectrum disorder. As she was being checked up by her pediatrician, and while she was crying so loudly while they were taking her blood for complete blood count and blood culture tests, and as we waited for 4 hours before she expressed urine for her urinalysis...I prayed endlessly that they find nothing really terrible (for people were already floating around the terms "typhoid fever" and "dengue fever" around, turns out there is an epidemic). God answered and heard all our prayers, for the results showed nothing. We didn't need to admit her in the hospital, and she was just prescribed antibiotics for urinary tract infection. I'm happy to report that she is now in perfect health! Hasn't had fever since dawn of Friday last week. She just finished taking her antibiotics yesterday morning. Thank God for doctors, for loved ones, for prayers, and for all you my mylot friends!

It is a bit of a concern for a kid to have flu for a week. You should bring hereto see the doctor immediately. You just can't give her paracetomal as it is only a temporary relieve.

I realize that now. I just didn't expect her to be sick again because she was okay by weekend. But I know. I should not have downplayed it. She is sleeping now and if she still has fever when we wake up tomorrow morning, then we will take her to the hospital.

Have her check by professionals. Hope she's fine now, but if not- wish her to get well soon. I know how hard it is seeing our little kids suffering pain and fever. As long as she eats and cooperate, that assures she's still in good condition.

I know, right? You wish you can take over their place and fight the infection for them. What's worse about my daughter's 2-week bout with high fever was that she couldn't tell us exactly how she is feeling. She has autism spectrum disorder, you see. And her speech is still not as eloquent and advanced as other 4-year old kids. But all that is behind us now. My daughter is now back in tip-top shape, thanks to her pediatrician, her antibiotics, and all your moral support and prayers! I really appreciate it. God bless you and yours!

Thank you! How very sweet of you! My daughter is now well. She started feeling well after we gave her prescribed antibiotics last Thursday night. Her last bout with fever was at dawn of last Friday.
