Whew! I still have 8 more hours to go before my shift ends. I already feel so sleepy. I hate 12hour shifts.
Can you give me ways to get through my shift without feeling very sleepy?

I don't know what you do at your job but perhaps there are times
you can take frequent breaks , just walk for a couple of minutes,
Som people drink coffee and they say that helps a lot, but you
should get plenty of rest before starting a 12 hours shift..
In stead of thinking about 12long hours, try to get the mind set
on something positive...Do you think there is something you can
do for an upbeat tempo or mind set on your job...
If all fails spend time thanking God that you still have a job
to attend...that should make you feel great....

thanks Kmouano, for being so observant...I am a very optimistic person.
Along with the strength from God, thats how I get through life daily...
Oh yes you can't be all over the place if you are a nurse..LOL..
that certainly would not work for you or your shift...But I am
sure as a nurse there are always something you can find to do to
keep you awake...LOL..a very demanding field, I would think....

sishy great idea! I totally agree if you can get away with playing on myLot than you will definitely help you to stay awake. My past jobs have had the you cannot use technology for any endeavor to make money not even one cent. I know that not all companies are this strict on their computer policies.

I have never had a twelve hour shift where I felt sleepy. I did once go to work after only sleeping two hours. It was one of my early college years. I had to stay up to finish a paper that was due for school. Well, I finished the paper about 6:30 AM. That gave me time for about a two hour nap before class that morning at 10 AM. I had to work that night. 4pm to midnight. That night the security guard said that I was making him tired because I could not stop yawning.
Here are a few ideas:
1) Turn on some upbeat music that generally helps.
2) Drink soda. The caffeine will help to keep you awake.
3) Get up and move. Stretch you legs or dance to some music. This will help to keep you from falling asleep.
4) You could also try talking with your coworkers.
5) There is always the playing on the computer. Like sishy said enjoy participating on myLot. Then again, I will generally search the internet if I am to tired to write.
