Two Truths and a Lie

As an introduction method in a class forum, the instructor had us all list two truths and lie about ourselves. Everyone then tried to guess which one was the lie. It really was a relaxed and funny way to get to know each other a little bit so I thought it would be fun to do it here too. Of course we tried to confuse one another by sneaking the lie in. One guy said he was a descendant of Pocahontas and everyone chose that as the lie but it was actually a truth!! I was amazed that everyone seemed to choose my lie right off the bat..oh..I confused a few people but for the most part..they chose right. I wondered why was it so hard to believe that I would.....? So here are mine: 1. I am an online X-box gamer that enjoys games like Black-ops and Call of Duty 2. My passion is cooking. 3. My dream is to be a published author. This is going to be fun...lol. So what are your two truths and lie? Have you ever done anything like this before and did you think it was fun?

I remember being set this task at college and it was quite enjoyable, I cannot remember the exact truths and lie I gave but no one got it right. 1 I can swim 16 lengths in a swimming pool 2 I have borderline personality disorder 3 It took me 26 years to get on a plane Which one of those is a lie?

Ha, nearly everyone in my college class went for the plane one as the lie, but as I was going to the gym then, no one said swimming. And that is the lie, I can swim but the maximum I can swim is 1 length!

Oh that is hard...I know you have been going to the gym so I bet you can do the swimming..that is about a half a mile right? I think it must be the plane...yes..the plane. I know it was tough for me my first time. I didn't fly until my mid twenties but it was more because of lifestyle at the time than choice. Oh my..maybe it isn't the plane. LOL@ the cooking. No one has guessed anything else yet

I think I will also guess number two. With your busy life, I don't know where you would get the time to passionately cook? 1. My favorite fruit to eat is a durian, a fruit that is ugly looking and stinks. 2. I hate driving and prefer to let someone else drive. 3. I am proud of all my achievements and have a display of all my awards and trophies.

Wow...no one here is going to make this easy on me. I have not got one right so far I think I think it would be the durian. I have heard that it is certainly an aquired taste. If that is not the lie..you must share where you get them and let me try some.

I have to agree with the other two, I don't think your passion is for cooking. I have done this, my first year in collage, but can't remember what three things I choose..

Oh Allknowing, I didn't see it until now, wow that was a big typo...I put collage and not college, because I am helping my son with his science fair project and had collage on my mind...lol Yeah, I guess I can make one up here, (because I am sure the one I did in college would be too easy), so it would take some creative thinking to come up with three topics I have never discussed here...lol

Three against a passion for cooking now. I thought it was fun to get to know the class. I haven't been with many of these people since I started and since I will eventually have to do a presentation in front of them, it helps to have an ice breaker.

Hi JenInTN. Well I think the one with playing games on xbox is false. And about me: 1. I love dancing and I have even performed on television. 2. Once cricket was my passion. And I even made it to the bench of national team. 3. I love music. I had a band that played Eastern Music and had won many Inter college music competitions. By the way we were given a lot of similar exercises in our behavioral science class. But they were not for knowing people. But they were kind of simulations of real life scenario so that we can analyze the situation better by keeping ourselves in the others shoes. Anyways have a nice day ... +SuperShames+

Hi SuperShames! I think it would be an interesting exercise for a behavioral science class. It can surely surprise you to see how different appearances can be from the real thing. If I were going to pick yours..hmm..number one. It is less detailed than the others and that kind of makes me think it is the lie..LOL. Be sure to let us know which on it is. Hi, Jen You are right, trying to keep some order, but far from perfect.. Yes, the third language is Finnish but have no teacher grade for any language..and I just remember, I once taught Spanish too, but I hardly knew it myself, but had to keep one chapter ahead of the students.. Thanks for your message..

Hi buenavida! Number 3 is the one I would guess. You have discussed painting with me before and just from your participation here and location..well...that already accounts for two languages. I have not been right yet though. It is hard to guess but I think it helps us get to know each other.

I guess it depends on the type of class. If it were a writing class, the OBVIOUSLY you were wanting to be a published author... A home economics, then cooking... an class to teach how to make online games, then that would be obvious. Lets see: 1 I love snakes 2 I play first person shooter games 3 I like to sew

Oh wow! This is going to be fun. I am going to suggest this activity t my girlfriend as she is a teacher in a high school here and she might also want to use this. Thanks! Now, I haven't read any of the responses here to make sure I don't get any spoilers from trying to guess which the lie is in the three givens and my guess would be number 1, probably because I haven't seen or read any discussion from you or which you have been into that was involve in games(or maybe I just missed them). It is also easier to believe that your passion is cooking as most females really do have that and the dream about being published author is one I almost consider to be the lie but knowing that you've been around here for as long as I could remember, I don't see why that couldn't have been your dream as well. So, am I wrong or right? Well here's mine: (I won't make it too difficult) 1. I spend some of my free time painting 2. I love cats and have them at home 3. I am a coke (Coca-Cola) addict So, which is it? Oh, by the way, I will be reading the responses right after I post this response and maybe join the game with them.

Hmmm...The thousand dollars sound so tempting and like the no-brainer here but I'm going with my gut feeling and it's telling me that it's the first one. For some weird reason or perhaps for no reason at all, but probably it's because the first one sounds like very acceptable truth which makes it more suspicious.

hi jenintn! we did a similar exercise during one of my training sessions in a previous company. i didn't fare too well as i wasn't able to correctly identify which was the lie and which were the truths. lol! our trainer actually fooled a lot with her lie, her mother was a vegas show girl! anyway, as for your statements, i would say statement number 2 is the lie. just gut feel. anyway, taking a stab at this one: 1. i was a contestant in a children's talent show when i was younger and i reached the finals finishing second place to the eventual champion, a 6 year old ventriloquist. 2. i shaved my head bald and grew a mustache, goatee, and beard back in the day because i wanted to look like cypress hill's b. real. 3. in my two previous jobs, i was involved in sports betting in one form or another. curious as to what your lie is jen. cheers and happy mylotting!!!

This is interesting. When I first looked at this discussion this morning, I initially thought the cooking was the lie. I know you are a very busy person and I didn't think you would have time for it. I didn't have time to respond then as I had things to do, but now that I came back to it and thought about it, I would have to say it's the online gaming that's the lie. I don't really see you as being into that. Mainly because it takes a lot of one's time too and it's really a time waster too, so I'll have to go with that one. Also, you seem like too sweet a person to be into those gory killing games. So that's my guess. Now for mine: 1. I worked in the natural gas industry for 20 years. 2. I can fly airplanes. 3. I served in the U.S. Navy. Good luck.

Hmmm--I don't think you're a gamer (by the way, I didn't read ANY of the discussion, just in case you gave away your lie). As for me: 1. I am both 11 years old, and 47--at the same time. 2. I am a liberal environmentalist 3.I am a freelance writer There you go
• Tucson, Arizona
7 Dec 12
CORRECT! I am NOT a liberal environmentalist. Don't get me wrong, I believe in conserving nature, and not littering, etc.--but I am no tree hugger. Number one and number three are true--number one because of the amnesia, number three is how I pay my bills, and have for the last couple of years since I haven't been able to work in the kettle corn business anymore--the agoraphobia thing. When you can't leave the house for more than 20 minutes without freaking out, it's tough to work in the real world. So the other half took care of the business, and I do the paperwork, the taxes, and write for my living (good thing, otherwise I'd really be in trouble now).

Welcome to myLot Fox! I think that realizing that what we see is not always what we perceive it to be is so important for many reasons. We all have things about us that are unique to the categories we are all so often put in to. I have always had issues with categories and stereotypes. This exercise can really show why.
