I'm 65 years old and my hair is down to my waste. The last time I got a haircut was about 10 years ago. I love my hair although sometimes it's a pain to take care of. It takes forever to drive and since I color my hair that is a real job and I have to use 2 boxes of hair color. My kids keep telling me my hair is too long for my age. When my Mom was alive she used to say the thing! What do you think of long hair on older women? I'm not going to do it but do you agree with my kids?

I like long hair but yours is just a little bit too long. That needs a lot of time to fix after washing it, it needs more shampoo, and it takes up a lot of your body vitamins. I'd have it cut shoulder length if I were you. Not short but just shoulder length. That would be sexier and easier to manage.

wowwwwww sexy.. who is old you? Hmmm you are not old.. No it is perfectly okay...
I remember a touching story about two old poor couple. The old woman has a very nice hair long... and every night her husband comb it with an old comb (really very old maybe a lot of missing teeth). Then one day the man decided to sell his old and broken watch so that she can buy her wife a new comb. He sold his watch.. and bought a new comb. When he returned home, he was surprised to see his wife with very short hair... Little he knew of, that his wife sold her hair to buy him a new watch to replace the broken watch.
No, it is okay as it is... you are sexy with it so go with it.

I think that long hair at your age would just make you look older. It has been 10 years, why not have a new haircut and surprise everyone. I am sure that with the right cut and color, you'd look 10-15 years younger.
Besides, shorter hair could save you a lot from shampoo, conditioner and hair color.

I've always been a short haired person who had a long haired person inside her, so I have gone through phases when I let it grow a little longer but then my husand would say it was untidy and I would get it cut short again. I still would love to have long hair, mine is now longer than it has ever been because I was unable to get to a hairdresser when it was in the 'untidy' stage. so I took advantage of that and have just let it grow a little. I discovered, in the process, that my hair started to curl once it reached a certain length. That was a surprise and also filled me with regret that all the years my hair was short I thought it was straight!
so good for you, grow your hair, enjoy its beauty and feel like a woman!

If I were you I will cut my hair. It is not so nice for a an old woman who has long hair. It is impractical.

Why do you say it´s not nice and impractical? Do you have the experience? How old are you?

I personally think that long hair suits women better than short hair because girls with short hair can look to bloke like and I personally don't like that long hair is definitely sexy. I don't like ling hair on a man because I don't think that it looks right, but I suppose that's my opinion which some people won't share but that's fine. I think that long hair needs more attention and work so maybe short hair is better as its easier to maintain.

if long hair on a man is tied back in a ponytail it looks ok but if it just hangs loose then i think that short hair looks better. When it comes to women i prefer long hair because i think that it looks more feminine i suppose that really it depends on the individual and what they look like.

I'm sixty and I keep my hair long. For my birthday, I had it coloured purple. I love it! Mostly because it covered up the grey.
When I was about 35, my mother advised me that I was getting too old to have long hair. Her ideas bothered me then because noting about me was acceptable.
Of course, I continued to have my hair long, I would have it whatever way I wanted. Of course, it's very thick and wavy but that doesn't worry me. I can straighten it these days if I want to with a hair straightener.
These days, it's unusual to see an older woman with long hair...they all seem to go for the old lady fluffy hair cuts and I cannot abide them. Every now and then you see an older woman with a decent, trendy, short hair cut but that takes so much maintenance and I'm not one to go to a salon every few months.

I'm your age too and if I could have HALF of your hair I'd be happy, lol! I was never able to really have long hair...the most was shoulder length.
Your hair is beautiful and no, I wouldn't cut it as long as you want to take care of it at that length. When it gets too much for you, then cut it. Otherwise, I wouldn't touch it. My hair is short and I still dye it blonde or red, depends on my mood, and it's been short for about 10 years now and this is what I think of it.

Years ago I tried going red just for a change and it looked so bad on me because of my skin color...it just didn't look good. There was also a time many years ago that I dyed it jet black...that didn't look good either. So now I stay with the blonde and it looks better.

If you are happy with your hair, that's all that matters. It's a lot of work though and I don't envy you on washing day. Mine isn't to my waist and I am not sure I want it to get there, but I'm not ready to cut it either. I think if your hair is well managed it will make you look younger and feminine.

There´s one thing that I have learned with age: I will not follow fashion but do as I please. I haven´t dressed according to fashion for maybe 2 decades. And I´m happier this way. It´s the same with hair. Long or short, do as you feel it is better for you.

At your age, you will be relieved once you have your haircut. Besides, 10 years is already a long time. Even at age 65, you still want to look good. Just think of the savings on hair color once you cut your hair.
If you don't want a very short one then cut it at half the length first then cut a little more to which you feel comfortable. Good luck!

Yeah, I'm going to agree with your kids. As child(daughter), I always tell my mom if her hair is already too long or if its too short to get a hair cut. My mom is already 46 years old and from what I learned, keeping a long hair makes you look more mature, whereas, if you keep a short hair, it makes you look lighter and younger. But it also depends on the shape of the face. There are certain hairstyles that doesn't fit the shape of the face..

Wow, I don't know how old you are, but if only I can get my hair to grow out like that. I like long hair and for a tip on dying it, can you do just the roots? Then you would need only one box. I personally use Henna, I feel it is safer for my hair and I had spent 20.00 on this Henna I have bought over a year ago and still have some left over, so the price is good. Of course I also spent another 10-15 dollars for indigo because Henna makes light color hair red and when I say red, I mean RED!!! The more indigo you use, the browner it gets, so I have a measurement of what I use to color my hair.
Another tip, have you considered braiding and putting your hair in a bun? That would also look nice..

Long hair on older women...why the heck not? Based on first impressions only, I would think more highly of older women with long hair than older women with short hair, simply because they wear it in direct opposition to what society says is okay. But why is wearing your hair longer when you're older not accepted? What does it hurt? Nothing. You wear it how you want to wear it.
You know, when I was in middle school, my mom came to school to pick me up one day and had her hair lopped off short. She had been hearing about how older women need to keep their hair short, and she had cut her hair accordingly. That was the first time I remember feeling overly disappointed in my mother. Here she was, a mother to a middle school aged student, and she was leading by example to cave into the pressures of society and others. I told her then and there to keep her hair long, since that's how she likes it. I also told her not to listen to others when it comes to how one should or should not live their life...it's not their decision!
This may be the longest response you get, but this is a subject that is deeper than what it appears to be. Cutting your hair just because others say it's too long for your age is ridiculous, not to mention it's offensive coming from your kids. Who says you're too old to still do what you want with your body and your life? You're never too old to make your own decisions. Keep your hair long, and make no apologies.

Hmmm i guess it depends on you if you still feel its ok just maintain it, but if it happen that its causing you some trouble like having have more time to fix it, to color or even combing well i may advice you should cut it already, i had my longest hair shoulder length but that was my hair as always ever since i was a kid. Now that i turn 37 a friend of mine convince me to try my shortest as chin length and wow i feel so young they teases me that i look like a teenager ehehhehe so from that day on i want it as that long only to feel young and more beautiful. hahhah
