If I could sleep 8 hours a night, I would. During the week I feel as thought I never sleep. It's never a deep sleep when I do either. It's usually only during the week though. On Friday night, I'm in bed as early as 9-10 and its a deep sleep. Maybe this is because I spend my weekends with my best friend? I really think it might be a comfort thing and that I'm only comfortable with her there, especially since I'm terrified of the dark, which seems like such a childish fear.. what do you guys think? any tips on getting to sleep earlier?

how i wish i could also sleep 8 hours but unfortunately i can`t because i am a full time mom and i had a son who is only 1 year old so i have so many things to do.. i`m lucky enough if i can sleep for about five hours deep sleep.. but i think my body clock has used to sleep in that small amount of sleep.. maybe you can read before sleeping so you will get sleepy..

For me I usually read books or anything on my bed just to let myself go to sleep. When you read your eyes go tired and therefore will initiate the closing of your eyes and eventually leads into a sleep. One thing more, you try working out or do anything that will make yourself tired before you go to bed.
Hope I helped :)

Now that makes sense. I knew people who use to work out before bed but I never understood why because I shower before bed usually, but I never thought about it making you tired. Maybe I'll take hot baths before bed and then read a book. Thanks for the help :)

Me too!
I love to sleep. If there's a job that requires to sleep, I'll do it! I can sleep for a living. I don't normally get long relaxing sleep during the weekdays. Sometimes during weekends I fail to do that as well. I am usually at bed at around 10pm, then be sleeping at 11pm. Then wake up at 530AM or 6AM. During weekends, I wake up at 11AM.
Drinking milk before going to sleep relaxes your body thus giving you that deep, relaxing, rejuvenating sleep.

I keep hearing about drinking milk before bed. Sounds like a good idea. I'm sure many of us wish we could sleep for a living. Actually, my brother is almost always sleeping. It's crazy! He gets home from school and sleeps until about 10, eats, showers, and then goes right back to sleep.

I have to get up early, and usually I have to work overtime, so I barely have any moment for my full 8 - hours sleep. But my mom always urge me to go to bed early, because she worried about me all the time that I would lack of sleep. So, if I am not too addictive to the internet, I might go to bed early, and read a book or 2 before I would close my eyes.

It seems as though every time you want to log off the computer, you find something entertaining. Anyway, they say mothers always know best.

Good luck with it, I have the worst luck when it comes to being able to sleep here under my circumstances as my bedroom is right next to the TV room and the TV is on, uh, alot. One or two people hear hog it all the time and if I wanna go to sleep earlier I can't cause they have to have it on every night unless I ask for it one or two night for an hour then it's back tot hem again. The point is I have to be up and go to bed the same time they do for the most part due to me being a very light sleeper another thing they don't get. I'm told " there are other people in the house that live here" , yea I know but what about me living here too? :( I am lucky if I h=get 5 hours of sleep a night and I love to sleep.

I feel as though I'm in almost the same situation sometimes. My mom watches tv until about 3 a.m. every night and keeps the volume up. It's so hard to sleep with the living room right next to my room. I understand your pain.

So do I and a lot of people too. I wish I could do that as well and I wish I could complete that eight hour sleep. My deep sleep is probably two to three hours only and the rest is shallow sleep.
Some people told me that drinking a glass of milk before going to bed will help us sound asleep. Hope you can rest well.

I can't really be of help here as I consider myself an insomniac. One way I find my way to sleep is through exhaustion and that's definitely not a healthy way to it. I also notice that my body has it's preferred time and even if I forced myself to sleep early, nothing works. It is probably the same for you, the conditioning of your body to sleep must be at some specific time of the night or with something that makes you comfortable.

I'm so sorry you have insomnia, it's such a horrible thing. I would suggest going to a doctor for that hopefully one day you'll be able to sleep well!

I love to sleep too. When I was young and hadn't been diagnosed with severe depression, I used to sleep long hours. I could sleep for 12 hours sometimes and I know I know it was because I was depressed. I think you could get yourself a night light and maybe that would help you. They make all kinds that you can just plug in to the wall socket. And with LED now they are very bright. If you don't reach your rem cycle of sleep you won't get much restful sleep. You could take some melatonin which is a natural sleep induser. Camomile tea is nice just before bed. And some people like to have a snack. Have to be careful though because some items aren't good for indusing sleep. Turkey, cherries and such are good to eat before bed. You don't want to eat caffiene or protein. Make sure the room is warm and perhaps play some soothing music.

Now that you mention it, maybe since it's getting colder out this time of year where I am, my room gets quite cold at night, I should invest in a little heater. I've tried melatonin but it only works for me sometimes. I own a nightlight since I'm quite terrified of the dark, I just wasn't sleeping for awhile because of it. I think I almost had to go to the doctor for it. I will pick up some chamomile tea next time I'm out too! Thanks for the help!

I spend most my night hours up , and on weekends I stay up even later and sleep right through the day on those days . I also sleep in dim light , I cant sleep in full darkness unless I am really tired and have no time for my imagination to get over active .
My tip would be sleep with a little light that is what I do , and I sleep with my fiance and I still want a little light .

I just am happy to get around 6-8 hours of sleep a day. I just try to set up a daily routine of what time I would like to go to bed and stick to it. I don't really know how much deep sleep I am getting everyday either. I make sure I am not too stressed out when I am sleeping because then I would worry about stuff and not be able to fall asleep.

I know if I'm overthinking things, it's almost impossible for me to fall asleep. I try to avoid that as well. Although, schedules are difficult for me to keep it seems when it comes to sleep.

A smooth and calm sleep gives more than a tonic diet to the body to revival. So have a good and sound sleep to be more energetic.

I usually watch TV before bed, but nothing to scary or I'll be up all night. I also do that if I have nightmares to get my mind of whatever the dream was about.

Hi friend.....I guess that you are living alone on weekdays. To tell you the truth, I too cannot sleep alone. I have a family, but it happens sometimes, that they are not at home and I have to sleep alone. I feel very much disturbed...all scary thoughts come to me, all horror moves that I have seen, come to my memory.....though I know it is just our mind that is making us scared, I prefer to have someone in the house. What tip I can give you in fact lets both try to keep mind free of negative thoughts and unnecessary fear...(which is a difficult task), only then we can get a peaceful deep sleep.May be you can share your house with some friend and that will make you feel more secured. Best of luck.

There's others here during the week, but generally, I wake up around 2 or 3 a.m. and if I don't have someone with me ( or if no one else is awake) I just think of all these things that could be hiding in the dark, especially since I have quite a bad fear of the dark. I really only feel comfortable with specific people.

I think that happens to many other people just like me that sometimes I'm having an insomnia. What I do is that I get a book and start reading and in a while, I am sleepy. If not, I listen to solemn music and would get a sleep finally.

For awhile I felt like I just never slept. Insomnia is not fun. Maybe getting one of those nature sounds cd's would help with falling asleep. Sometimes I think that's he biggest problem.

My math teacher was talking about how she had the same problem. Her kids don't let her sleep so she says none of us have an excuse for being tired except her. Hopefully they will let you sleep sometimes :) I hope you have a nice day as well!

Well, I do sleep 8 hours every night or at least most nights. But then I work all day and I think that tires my mind a lot, so I fall asleep quickly and wake up in the morning. But when I am under stress or have a lot of things on my mind, I don't get that kind of a sleep. I wake up 2-3 times a night and wake up early. My advice just listen to soft music and fall asleep. Do anything that distracts your mind from the tensions of the future. That helps me. It may just help you too.

I probably should download some soft music onto my ipod or something. When I was younger, I use to fall asleep with music like that, so it might be just what I need. thanks for the help :)

I sleep over ten hours a day and I can fall asleep very fast as long as I go to bed. I enjoy watching a movie before sleep. This is a ood way to help you sleep. Is this you have so much pressure on your work that makes you cannot sleep well during the week days?

I would love if I could sleep that long and fall asleep fast. I think ever since school started again, it has been hard to sleep.

Everybody must love to have a good 8 hours sleep. Some even enjoy longer sessions, but with busy people that is not so common :)
