The same reason to save cost when they cut people

On my previous post, I mentioned about 15 people got let go. Today, we had this town hall meeting at work to discuss the future of the company. The first thing the new leader discussed was about let go some of those people in the basis of saving company cost, and use that money to invest on new products to compete in the market. Some people also raised their hands to ask how the selection criteria goes, but the human resource personnel can't really give a direct answer to it. I guess if you work long enough and your salary reach a certain level, you might need to consider a back - up plan. Anyway, we all just hope for job security and work as much as we can.

That's really a problem. If you work long enough in the company and you are enjoying a good salary, I guess you are their first target. It's really upsetting but they don't have any choice but to let you go for maintaining the company's status. All of us should have a stable job. Working in a company sometimes is risky. We don't know til when are we needed. I guess while having the job, a back up plan is planned. Goodluck to your 15 ex-coworkers. I hope they'll find new jobs soon.

Angel I agree with you we all wants to get stable job but difficult for everyone so in our community most of the boys start their own business or runs their family business. No interest in job.

IYes, if we have a capital, it's better to have our own business. I hope it will last for a lifetime.

Thats the thing. These days there is no more job security. They will just let people go like that. I know because I have been in that situation a few times in my life. So, that said, since they pay x amount, thats all you give them. Do not ever go over board or above and beyond. Do your job and do it well. Because you never know when the axe will fall. And yes, always have a back up plan.

Unfortunately, this the sad truth of the capitalist world. The managers are too short sighted and with managements that hardly stay in a company for more than 5 years, they keep on trimming off people as their first set. Poor guys who have been loyal to the company get fired due to these shifting disloyal management guys who have acquired a reputation for themselves!!
Cheers!

Job security and insurance aren't really feasible these days. If the company wants to cut cost,it's the personnel who gets the to bite the dust first. I think that your HR is stalling and keeps everyone on their toes.

do you think the plans for new products are likely to be successful, kingparker?
at least the company is looking at innovation as a way to move forward, rather than just cutting costs through redundancies. though they have let a few people go.
some people might have chosen voluntary redundancy, so that might have played a part in selecting people, its hard to know. it all depends on how good the management is.
scary really.

It's always sad when one realizes that job security isn't present in a company anymore. I too would be sad and at the same time anxious. It's tough to find a job these days and I wouldn't want to be in a position of uncertainty again.
However, it's something that the business needs to do, after all, they're not there for charity. They need to have more income thus, as explained, they need additional products and would have to lay off some people.
I guess you all need a back-up plan. We all do - all the time.
Good luck. Have a great mylot experience ahead!

Do you agree with any compensation in your labor contract?Usually in the labor contract will show the compensation if the company laid off you,and if you work in this company more longer the you will get more return.
If your company do not willing to pay you guys then you can sue.

I am not sure if it is a stereotype, the discrimination issue not a good thing. I had experienced this kind of attitude for so many times, but I ignore it. In my opinion, it will still remain as an issue.

hmm-mm... it upsets me when company heads think this way. life is getting tougher and tougher. Previous generation had a better and peaceful life. one person worked and he could take care of entire family. but these days every one is lost in a rat race and more over there is not job security. people are leading a hard life under lots of pressure

If i were you, I would feel secure about my post. No company would fire an employee who is loyal. I am not so lucky. I am just a freshman to the society. Every time my boss wants to cut down the cost, I feel very nervous about this and keep worrying about myself. Fortunately, nothing like that happened to me.

certainly, that's how life in a corporate world. For the sake of business and the company itself, lucrative people have had to compensate things. But as an employee, we have to take this kind of scenario as mature as we can. There might be open doors which are more willing to equivocate our capabilities. It's indeed a leap of faith to search for a job then at then you'll find yourself looking for a position again. But as an individual, we must know how to take things maturely and move on instead on dwelling on a sullen experience.

This really saddens me. I hate to see people out of work, especially now when the economy is so rough (seems like it's been like this for awhile now and bordering on normal) If I was that company, I would keep those employees instead of buying new products. It's the people that make the company, not the products and hopefully the company has some good honest, hard working people. If those products don't work, that company is going to be miserable.
